We are a donut loving family and try new shops at every chance and the Solana Beach donuts were the bomb! Winners were definitely the Jelly Filled, Lemon Filled(with powdered sugar) and Cinnamon Sugar. The jelly filled had a sublime glaze and amazing lightly crispy crust with a light fluffly center and then, the JELLY. Not your usual small bite of bright red, fake-fruit jelly, this donut was PACKED with a deep red, flavorful jelly. yum. The lemon filled was just as divine and the best lemon filled donut we have found to date. The cinnamon sugar was just a bite of light, airy donut goodness. The other donuts we tried were the apple fritter which was good, wouldn’t call it AMAZING but good and the glazed braid. Again, good. Yes, the lady serving donuts is not going to win any Customer Service awards, let alone crack a smile but, she can make a mean donut. We will be back.

Average coffee, yummy donut, horrible cashier. Customer service and attitude make a huge difference to me personally and because this woman was so unpleasant, I will not come here again. Yes it is cheap, however cash only.

This place was. weird. Strange décor, not great donuts… I don’t really get it. Perhaps I had to have a non-donut to really like it there, or a novelty large donut… but just their regular donuts were not that great. And this wasn’t from memory either, we actually went on a donut tour of North County San Diego and this place definitely had the least appetizing donuts. Heavier than the others with less flavor, and they didn’t particularly taste as fresh either. Overall, will not go back.

Absolutely delicious donuts served to you by Solana Beach’s grumpiest woman. Some people just aren’t meant for customer service. I can understand this. We’re all given different talents to share with the world. But I felt like I was committing a major infraction against her just because I asked what something was. So I guess be warned. But the donuts were really good, so if it’s worth it to you, go for it. Also, cash only.

I give this place five stars because they have the gigantic donuts. The quality is above average, but the offering on weekends of the mondo-sized delights makes this place stand out for me.

Was waiting yet again at Solana train station early one morning to take my train back home to LA. Hungry. Cold. Wait, is that the smell of donuts wafting in the air? I kid you not when I say that my fiancé and I found this donut shop by following our nose. I forget what we got, but it was fresh and good. coffee wasn’t that bad either.

I consider myself an apple fritter aficionado, and their’s are the best I’ve come across. After driving by this place for years without stopping(as I frequented VGs), I gave it a try. I’m so glad I did. The maple long johns are great. The blueberry glazed cake donuts melt in your mouth. I’m the best husband/dad ever when I bring these home unexpectedly. Take my advice, go give it a shot.

Love their donuts and stop in just about every time I take the train up north, which fortunately for my waistline isn’t that often. Great local shop and their donuts are yummy.

Incredible donuts. Dislike the cash only policy however.

I used to frequent VGs and still had the mindset of «a donut is just donut» take it or leave it. Since VG was so highly rated, I assumed I was eating the best and just figured I wasn’t a donut person. I have been driving by Solana Donut(SD) for years and finally decided to give it a try. As a runner, carbs are my thing. After a run — decided to head out to SD, I realized there’s nothing like super fresh donuts that are moist and soft and gooey. Crullers are tough to find for some reason and this place does it right. If you get there early, you have much more to choose from including the amazing blueberry(glazed or unglazed). Ridiculous. I’ve thought about driving up to Escondido for Peterson’s but I’ve discovered my own bliss here at Solana. As for the lady who serves you, she was quick to bring me my donuts so I’m a totally satisfied customer.

I’ve never seen a bigger donut in my life, it weighs about 2 pounds and is about as wide as a basketball. I’ve never had a better donut either, come give this place a try. Chocolate donuts are delicious, glazed ones are amazing, and the crumb ones are also bomb.

I came here on a whim for two reasons: my regular donut shop was closed, and this place had great reviews on Unilocal.I’m not really sure I understand the great ratings, though… The lady that helped me when I came in wasn’t the most pleasant person I’ve met. Chances are she was just having a bad day so I won’t hold it against her, but it did strike me as strange that she was so curt. I eat donuts nearly every day *ahem* fatkid *ahem*, and I’ve gotten used to all the donut shops I go to having people that are friendly and affable behind the counter. You know, if I had to get up as early as they do, I’d likely be in a pissy mood, too. Anyway, the donuts weren’t anything to write home about. They were, as the 3-star rating describes, A-OK. I picked up a chocolate bar and crumb donut, and I didn’t even get all the way through them both. Maybe it’s time I stop eating so many donuts; when you start to feel like you’ve got street cred for critiquing donuts, it’s time to maybe stop. Mebbe eat some kale.

I actually love the doughnuts here, and pretty much every where. the lemon was tasty and because one is never enough I has a raspberry filled too. Only takes cash a little upsetting, but very good! :)

I work upstairs from this donut shop and I am addicted– such a bittersweet mix! After eating their donuts, the donut shop in Oceanside I used to go doesn’t compare anymore. I never have a problem with their donuts, they are always so yummy! Other donut shops just aren’t tasty to me anymore. Definitely come here!

Yay… finally found a good apple fritter in the area! I had a glazed one(didn’t see the crumb covered option) and it was what I was hoping for! Apple fritters IMO should be crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside… not heavy and dense(like the kind you find at VGs).

4 stars for sentimental value. Been going here since I was a youngin’. Consistent product. Their donuts are bigger than VG’s for the same varieties. Not sure if that because they’re overproofing, or if they’re giving me more dough for the dough! Other than the décor which all donut shops seem to be lacking in, the place is great!

Solana Donut House distinguishes itself from other doughnut places for a few reasons. First: a generous application of chocolate and maple glaze on their doughnut bars. Second: when had fresh, their doughnuts are amongst the fluffiest around. Third: larger than usual seating area. Other than that, they’re like most places I’ve been to: cash only and the standard array of delectable doughnuts to choose from.

It is my «local» so I am a fan. As I have a donut addiction and they are one of my suppliers. Good flavor and fresh. Always a plus. Also if you a in need of a donut bigger than a babies head, then this is the place for you. They are fun for a party or for the day after Cinco de Mayo(great way to get your mind off a wicked hangover). DON’T BRINGPLASTIC, ASTHEYARE A CASHONLYBUSINESS. Enjoy…I know I am!

Funny that the first person to review this place isnt from anywhere near Solana Beach… but I digress. Me= very much loving of all things sweet. Solana Donuts= in possession of many things sweet! We were a perfect match, from the start. Its a tiny shop with poor lighting, so expect to come in and out for donuts and sweets on the run… I dont remember if they even had a table for seating if you wanted… The pastries and donuts all looked fresh and tasty, and the place gets customers — by the time we got there, late in the evening, they had only ONE french cruller left, which is my favorite favorite(and did i mention favorite?) donut ever. Got a bunch of other stuff, all yummy, nothin ‘spensive… And they make one Giant size donut, for your super-size needs… It looks like a normal glazed donut would, but about the diameter of a melon. Would be cute as a gag-type gift…
