Very grimey and dirt everywhere. Young person at register very nice. Food poor.

I went here today for the first time and the juicer was broken.(The main reason why I went here) I was going to get a smoothie instead, but the choices were too fruity. I was looking for something with more greens and ginger. They said they could add those items but their blender was not tough enough to finely blend the ginger. I ended up getting the teriyaki chicken bowl. It was nothing too exciting and a bit expensive. I feel like this café has a lot of potential but there is still large room for improvement.

The two-star phrase says it perfectly: Meh. The food is fairly healthy and it comes in large portions but, aside from the omelettes, there is nothing memorable about the flavor of the food. It does seem like they are headed in the right direction, though. Every time I eat there, I walk away feeling like the food is just a few adjustments away from hitting the mark. A little more seasoning here, a little less there, searing versus not searing etc. I wouldn’t eat at Blue Shirt again though I might buy a cup of coffee and get work done on my laptop.

This review is based only on smoothies(that is all I religiously get there). The peanut butter and jelly smoothie is stupid good, and staff is actually a lot friends and nicer than it was before… so thats good. Love it there!

My favorite thing about Blue Shirt is that they can make any of their sandwiches as salads, so that is what I always get. The portions are a very nice size and I’d say the prices are right for a neighborhood as expensive as Davis Square. It’s not as good as Life Alive(what is?), but it’s also a good deal cheaper. Service is rarely smiley or outgoing, but I’ve never found it rude, just efficient. I usually get my food to go, and it’s usually ready in under 2 minutes. I’ve noticed no change whatsoever in quality in all the years I’ve been coming here; the dishes have always been just the same and always just as good. The cookies they now carry from Arlington’s Something Sweet Without Wheat are an added bonus.

I’m in love with the tofu ginger wrap from Blue Shirt. The dressing is so killer. You do have to eat it fast because it does get messy by the end, but it is sooooo tasty and healthy. The mix of all the ingredients are on point. The workers behind the counter are friendly enough and the space is perfectly comfortable, though it seems like it could use some touch-ups. I’m actually surprised it isn’t busier here than it is…

I just discovered their breakfasts and I’m a breakfast person so now I have to write a review to let others in on this. It’s completely hearty and completely affordable. And you can while away some nice morning hours working there – it’s an excellent place to work in the crucial early AM hours before your brain turns to sludge. I think what makes their wraps is the sauces. Great garlic, peanut and other sauces. Nice portions.(I tend to get things as a bowl.) Their juices are nice. The smoothies are killer. There is no place else to get smoothies this good in Davis or thereabouts. The peanut butter and jelly, peanut butter and chocolate and the berry one are all delicious and fill you up. What I appreciate is that it is low-key down-to-earth but they are clearly very green. Fair trade coffee(generally pretty good), re-usable cutlery, simplicity in the to-go containers. Free wifi. It’s old school but comfy. I can’t really figure out why people prefer other cafes so much to this one. You get more here. And it’s also super clean, well-lighted, perfect for people watching… I like it that it’s not packed but it should be packed. The owner appears a bit crabby. He glowers at the customers(perhaps running a café is stressful or he hates me) but it doesn’t take away from anything. Good service behind counter and nice people.

OMG what happened to this place??? It defin has gone downhill. Went in the other day after a 2 yr hiatus and was that a waste of time and money!!! Girl behind the counter wasn’t the nicest. Whatever… The women preparing the food were just so chatty and loud. Now the worst part… the food… HORRIBLE!!! I ordered to Grilled Chicken Burritos and they were so gross. They had obviously added adobo to the chicken cause I could taste it and the chicken was yellow not the typical white as in the past.(I say this as a hispanic who uses adobo). There was barely any lettuce in the bowl. The rice was dry as could be. I was very disapponted and will not go back. Too bad cause they used to be soooo good. I’ve been a fan since 1998. Not anymore…

This lovely establishment doesn’t get the attention it deserves. I’ve had their sandwiches, salads and juices all of which have been consistently good. Their food is made with high quality ingredients. I always feel like I did the right thing for myself when I pay them a visit. Check them out if you get the chance. The staff is very nice too.

I have loved Blue Shirt for years. It’s been me and my boyfriend’s go-to place for smoothies and salads and wraps in Davis Square for about 5 years now. However, the last two times I’ve been there I’ve been SO disappointed and confused. My favorite has always been the Grilled Chicken Caesar salad/wrap — the chicken was also really soft, delicious white-meat chicken. The last two times I’ve been though, the chicken has just been horrible though! Really greasy, fatty, and horrible tasting and prepared totally differently. The first time I thought it was a fluke, but then it was the same thing this past weekend. I’m not sure if they’ve changed up the recipe or something, but it is definitely NOT an improvement. If this is how it’s going to be from now on, I may need to move on or just stick with the smoothies.

I’m almost positive this place made me sick. With the flies flying around their food and the general un-keptness of the place, I would not be surprised. Will not be back.

I have liked Blue Shirt for years. The food is a bit spotty – I’ve had mixed luck with burritos and wraps – but the staff is always nice. It’s great for reading and studying.

I dream about their thai peanut tofu bowl. They are quick and friendly and so so affordable. I prefer to order out than dine in. Great place, I recommend it.

I really wanted to like this place. Smoothies, vegan options, yum! However it’s consistently disappointing and not made with love. It’s no Life Alive…

This place is fine. They make some good wraps but never change up their menu or try anything new. They also need to update their website. It has not changed since I first visited it in 2007. Would also love if they had some green smoothies. Something new, anything, please!

I got the Turkey Rueben sandwich today. It was a large sandwich with lots of turkey and thick cut swiss. Good balance of sauerkraut and dressing. Rye bread was hearty and fresh. would go back to try some more of menu.

I dreamed of Blue Shirt Café while I was living in Japan. Prior to being in Japan I’d been going there three or four times a week for several months. So, when I returned from Japan, there were a couple of things I’d been hungering for(the sesame tofu plate and the spinach tofu plate). I tried to go tonight, but got caught in a number of transportation delays. Still, I arrived five minutes before closing. Except… they had already closed. I get that it was close to closing, and I get that they had no idea how hard I’d tried to make it earlier, but it was really shitty to have an employee just shake her head at me dismissively when I tried to open the door during their stated open hours and then ignore me. Their clock — right next to her — clearly showed they were scheduled to be open for another five minutes. I understand sometimes places choose to close early, but the way it was handled left a bad taste in my mouth, and I can’t see myself returning :(

Blue Shirt is like an abusive relationship: sometimes I LOVE it and other times I HATE it. My go-to wrap is the peanut tofu. I have gotten this wrap like a million times and it is never the same. Sometimes it is delicious, but more often than not, the peanut sauce is way too thin and not very flavorful and turns the whole wrap into a soggy mess. About 90% of the time, I have to add my own peanut butter to it at home which makes me laugh because at the price they charge, it should be perfectly peanut-y. A few words of advice: 1) PAINT your walls. The current walls make the whole place feel unclean. 2) Make a thicker, more flavorful, peanut sauce. This shouldn’t be hard to do. 3) Stop raising your prices unless you improve your product.

Blue shirt is the best lunch option in Davis hands down. The bowl combos are awesome, pretty inexpensive and huge portions. They have a seating area that always has open tables.

I love this place. One of the places in the square that I really feels«like Davis». The people at the counter always seem like they could care less to be there but all their wraps can be made into a salad– AWESOME! Their roasted veggie goat is to die for. Seriously.

I couldn’t even wait to leave the café to write about how disappointed I was. My more than $ 10 meal came on ordinary sandwich bread with an absurdly thick piece of unflavored tofu. I was really excited to try this place, but doubt I’ll be returning.

Just went here for the first time for breakfast. My girlfriend and I both got the huevos rancheros. Coming out it was a wrap that was half-frozen and half-steaming. Seems like it was poorly prepared in a microwave. The salsa was clearly past its’ prime and I was forced to scrape it out of the wrap to make the rest of the burrito(yes, it’s served as a burrito) edible. Neither me, nor my girlfriend were able to finish our meals. Later in the day this meal has still not left me. Never have I ever gotten food poisoning from huevos rancheros before today. Never going back.

My three most recent times at blue shirt: 1. Order a Thai peanut wrap: get basically a few cups of rice with sauce and some shredded carrots in a wrap 2. Order a near curry veggie wrap. Get a near curry veggie salad. 3. Order a VEGAN near curry veggie salad. Get a near curry veggie salad WITHCHICKEN. So here’s my top tips for blue shirt: — always order easy on the rice heavy on the veggies — even if the menu says vegan, make sure to put the word in front of your order, else it might come out with meat on it. — if you have allergies, be incredibly explicit about it. The food is meh and the service is worse; the second star is for their bomb-ass playlists that blast while you munch.

Blue Shirt is my go-to food spot in Davis Square for a healthy, affordable, and fast meal and a vegetarian-friendly menu. My go-to dish is the spinach tofu, which is ample enough for two meals, but it’s almost impossible to manage, thanks to the divine garlicky, cheesy, perfectly-baked-tofu-y goodness. There are also many delicious fresh juice and fruit smoothies! Which, even if you don’t intend on ordering, you will thanks to the $ 6 minimum for credit purchases. It will easily tip you into the abyss of freshly pulverized fruits and veggies. Resistance is futile. There is a large dining space where one can plop down after securing your plate o’ goodness. On a weeknight, groups gather here for meetings, students plug in and work, and people flying solo comfortably dine in their solo silence. There are even some 2-top seats outside, ideal for soaking up the sun(read: car exhaust), and people watching.

I love this place. Small, REAL café food. Great healthy options and smoothies as well as a fresh fruit bar. I would give it give stars but more often than not when I walk in there the cashiers are often snacking while I’m ordering.(Shouldn’t they go on break to eat?) it’s just a little frustrating to talk to someone when their mouth is full of fruit, chips/salsa, etc. Otherwise top notch place in davis square.

I really wish I could give a 3 ½ to this place. They’re relatively decent and one of the healthier lunch options in the area. I’ve worked in the area for a few years so I’ve been plenty of times. Nothing’s ever wowed me, but I haven’t been disappointed either. I’d recommend wraps over bowls; the bowls just end up looking like deconstructed salads. The juices are good, but a little pricey. The soups are fine. I’ve had similar experiences with the service that others have mentioned. The counter help has been a revolving door of young women. The guy who’s always there, who I presume to be the owner or manager, isn’t overly personable. The personality of the other staff really depends on the day.
