My daughter has been taking lessons from Jason for 4 years. He focuses on technique and has encouraged her to write songs. He is good natured, friendly, and has a good sense of humor. I am glad he is flexible when it comes to scheduling classes.

Both my 14 year old son and I(55 years old) took guitar lessons from Jason for over a year. Jason is a very gifted musician with an extensive knowledge of jazz, rock & blues guitar and he knows how to successfully teach those different styles to diverse clients. Jason is very patient, is a good listener, and is great at motivating his pupils and inspiring them to get better. Jason creates tailored lesson plans that compliment his student’s musical tastes, style and their own personal goals. He’s great at explaining the technical side of musical theory for guitar and he knows how to deliver this information to his students and keep them inspired to learn the theory and practice their skills and note reading ability.

I took lessons with Jason for about 2 years when I first began learning guitar at 25. I had been a drummer for a number of years, and wanted to focus specifically on learning music theory, to «fill in the gaps» I had in my musical knowledge. Jason was more than up to the task. Jason is a very talented musician, and a joyful, patient educator. He structured our lessons in a way that worked very well for me, with lesson sheets and exercises to work on at home. In our lessons, we practiced ear training, learned a broad range of musical styles, and ended up working on many songs from the Jazz Real Book. Our lessons were fluid, though, and I occasionally brought a few pieces I had written to help finish, or to discuss musical options. We regularly played together during our lesson, practicing techniques, and trading solos and rhythm sections. At the end of each lesson, he emailed me a list of the items to work on over the coming week, and we covered a great deal of ground in this way. I feel like I have a very good understanding of musical theory now, and can converse fluidly in the language of music. Jason is a mellow guy, very bright, and has an admirable dedication to his craft. We became great friends over the course of our lessons, which I looked forward to weekly. When I moved away from Santa Cruz, and had to find a new instructor, Jason was happy to recommend someone he knew where I was moving, and I continued to learn. I don’t think of Jason as merely a guitar instructor, but a life-long friend who helped me begin my musical journey.
