We ordered spaghetti and meatballs and an appetizer sampler that consisted of jalepeno poppers, mozzarella stick, fries and chicken fingers. Husband said the spaghetti and meatballs were very good, the sauce was just sweet enough, meatballs were tender and tasty. I had the sampler and the jalepeno poppers and the mozzarella sticks were my fav in the platter. We took this to go, service was good. Meals came to $ 30. We will be back for their sausage pie!

New cook, pizza is not as thin as it was! This place was always one of our favorites. thin crust pizza, unique sauce, delicious! Went here today and the pizza is not thin as it always has been. We asked the waitress and she said there is a new cook in the back so maybe that’s why the pizza isn’t thin crust. It’s definitely not as good as regular pizza. The thin crust made it unique! My suggestion is to let them know you want it thin crust like it always has been. Hopefully the new cook will catch on.

The best pizza ever! They use all high quality ingredients and just the right amount so the toppings don’t run off the crust after your first bite. Try the sausage topped pizza. It’s the best!!! Be warned, once you try their pizza it will spoil you for the rest of your life. I now live an hour away but always try to get there if I’m in the area. Even if I’m not hungry I will get a to-go pizza for eating latter.

Excellent brick oven pizza!!! Absolutely amazing… The pizza is to die for… Make sure you get it with sausage. The sausage is homemade and tastes amazing. Sandwiches are very good too… Place has been around for over 50 years…

People seem to either love or hate this pizza, I’ve seen this on Unilocal and in my own family. I think it’s ok, it has its own kind of style of pizza. It’s thin but not cracker thin like Nancy’s town house but it’s not your typical nj/ny pizza. The sause is super sweet as others have said which I actually like, the edges have a tendency to get charred in the oven while the crust isn’t necessarily cooked all the way I always ask for it well done and that remedies the crust and somehow the edges are not anymore charred than usual. I like that their sausage is crumbled and it has an excellent taste also the eggplant topping is very good. They used to have good pasta fagioli but last time I went it was barely edible. I haven’t actually dined in in awhile because the service was always so annoying to me I would just get aggravated so if I want something I order takeout. The service in the bar is much better than the restaurant as well.

No gluten free food at all. Had a chicken Caesar salad anyway and it was mediocre at best. Won’t be back.

Went here last Saturday for dinner. Had heard great things about the food but didn’t match the hype. Entered through the bar area and once at the restaurant part there was a stale odor. Carpet on floor is probably source of odor. Area was well lit yet dark due to the dark woods and ceiling. Table was scratched and gouged and seats were worn(a Robert Irvine nightmare). Ordered the macaroni and Gouda cheese bites which were tasty but nothing special; however; the accompanying red sauce was the worst. It was just tomato sauce from a can. I also had the broccoli cheese soup which was pasty and lacked cheese. The bread brought to the table was browned nicely, looked and smelled great but was also flavorless. Not sure if purchased or baked on site but baker forgot salt in the recipe. Butter couldn’t help it. Wife ordered the lobster and shrimp risotto which was cooked well, had plenty of seafood but fell short on taste; bland. I ordered the chicken Alfredo which was hot with a good portion of chicken but the chicken seemed as if it was boiled with no seasoning. The pasta was cooked al dente but the sauce was watery and flavorless. Possibly due to not properly draining the pasta first. Mentioned this to the waitress and manager came over and apologized and he appeared to be very sincere. He offered to take off it off the bill but I declined the offer. He also offered to make me something different but my other choices had their red sauce and I’ve already spoke of that. After paying or bill the waitress returned with a second to go bag for me. The chef made me a new order to take home for my troubles. I waited to try the second order till I got home 20 mins later. Was still hot but had the time to congeal unfortunately it still was weak. Chef attempted to tighten it up byjust adding more cheese. I applaud the wait staff and manager for their dedication to the customer and establishment and why I gave you another star. Unfortunately the food needs a revamp. Work on seasonings. Don’t be afraid to add salt, it’s a basic ingredient in most every food and adds or brings out natural flavors. Unfortunately another establishment surviving off the past and the the present.

Back when I was little, people would call me the pizza eater. Heck, even my Myspace url had«pizza eater» in it. This right here folks is probably the best pizza I’ve ever had in my entire life. Sciortino’s — the sweet pie will always get me. Whether it’s from the meaty Cheesesteak pie to The Works or even just your cheese pie. Sciortino’s knows what is good pizza. Sure, the décor of the entire restaurant may seem traditional; however, I had read in a history book that this place is one of the first pizzerias in the United States. Overall, I will keep on coming back here every time I am back in New Jersey. Just wished they delivered wherever I lived man. So good.

Been going to the Sciortino’s family restaurant since I was a small lad in the 1960’s and they were in Perth Amboy, NJ. IMO it’s the best pizza in NJ. Try the tray pie. Fresh garlic and sausage

If I could give 4.5 I would. Been going here for years — it’s got a great family atmosphere in the back room and the bar area is enjoyable(not upscale, but I like that for an old style restaurant). One of the best places for pizza in NJ, which is high praise as I’ve sampled many many pizzas — great, thin crust pizza, with amazing sauce. When I go with my son, we often get the mussels marinara appetizer(with lots of the great bread to sop up the sauce with) and a plain pizza and we love it. Last time there we had their buffalo wings, as we both love wings and surprisingly, for an Italian place, the wings were superb — very meaty/juicy and well spiced. I also occasionally will get a pasta dish, especially the old school spaghetti with meatballs and sausage — it’s perfect comfort food for me. The only thing keeping this from being 5 stars is the salads are just good and my wife has had a few things there she didn’t love.

This pizza is delicious! Sweet sauce, somewhat charred crust and the cheese on top is to die for! Best pizza in the area hands down! We have dined in and it’s a great family atmosphere but we also take it to go and can never wait to get our teeth in. Lol it’s really that yummy! #1

Hands down the best pizza I’ve eaten in the Tristate and I’m a junky. Crisp crust sweet sauce good cheese. .what more can you ask for, other than the hand crumbled sausage if u are in the mood for a carnivorous treat… meatballs are an absolute must try. people drive in droves here and for good reason. .haven’t had one ny slice that can beat it yet…

He food and the service were excellent. The pizza was light but dripping with toppings! Excellent for groups and plan on going back soon! My only complaint would probably be décor. It would be nice to update a few areas like the restrooms.

So disappointed in what has happened to their once great pizza. It is just a greasy mess, the sauce which is very different from others is Not the same. The pie is just NOT good. It is sad after all these yrs this will be my memory of their once iconic pie.

Sweet sauce pizza and beer, what could be better? Always a affordable good time for the family. This place has withstood the test of time with their uniquely flavored sweet sauce pizza for years. Some may feel its too sweet, but I find it pleasantly delectable. Thin slightly crusted beneath layered anchovies, grilled onions and a splash or parmesan cheese, crushed red peppers, garlic and oregano. Now that’s a pie, baby. There’s a semi dingy bar with happy hour specials. Nothing extravagant, your typical draft and shot speakeasy. I’ve sampled some of the other Italian dishes and always found them to my liking, no not great, but you won’t be disappointed either. This is one of those 3.5 star establishments, definitely worthy of a pop in for a casual bite.

We have been here several times and it’s very close to our home. Our absolute favorite is the tray pizza! I’m a fan of the sweet sauce and this pizza doesn’t need toppings. We tried ones with mushrooms, but wasn’t a fan because they are canned. It took away from the taste of this pie, so we order it plain. It’s nice and thick, but not as thick as a Sicilian pie at a regular pizza place. We’ve also had several pasta dishes and it’s always fresh tasting. The only thing we didn’t love was the regular thin pie. I just think we aren’t thin pizza lovers. All in all its a great local spot and the service is always good. Highly recommend!

So I remember Sciortino’s from when it was in Perth Amboy. Sadly ever since their move the pizza has been entirely the same. Nevertheless the pizza is still good. The sauce has the same sweetness that I remember. Thin crust with a nice char on the bottom of the pie. All in all still good. Way different than an ordinary everyday pizza which is why I still come back. I just miss the old location.

After birding at Raritan Waterview Park, my son and I were starving and in need of fortification. We drove into South Amboy and found the Landmark Inn. Unfortunately, their kitchen was under renovation. So, we found Sciortino’s. Smart move. We took seats next to the bar. Started off with some really tasty fried calamari. Not rubbery at all. It was a very large portion which defeated us. But it was ok because we had pizza to eat. Large pie, half plain, half sausage. Much has been written about this thin crust, brick oven pie. Yes, the sauce is sweet. Yes, a knife and fork is helpful for the first slice or two. Did not bother us one bit! The pie was delicious. To our palettes, it was much better than Sun Tavern. Blue Moon with the obligatory orange slice was a welcomed accompaniment to the meal. As I have indicated in prior reviews, my wife appreciates a good to go order. So, I brought home Penne with Broccoli Rabe with homemade sausage. The sausage was in large chunks as opposed to the crumbled stuff on the pizza. I had a bite or two and was very impressed. Whoever is making the sausage really knows what they are doing. In a summer filled with great local discoveries, we were happy to add another spot to the list. We will be back soon.
