I love this nursery! The woman who helped me was very nice and knowledgeable. I am not a super experienced gardener so she gave me a lot of great tips and helped me pick a low maintenance plant. My vine is doing great and I will definitely shop here again for the friendly customer service and reasonable prices. Thank you Aspen Hollow

I do like this place. I like coming here and getting ideas on plants and trees. However I get a little choked up at some of the cost of these beautiful plants. Trees are nice and healthy – and if you know what you are looking for –go in the fall when the trees start going on sale. :-) We bought a beautiful Golden Chain and its doing wonderful at its 2nd year at our cabin. It was worth the $ 150! I did purchase a few shrubs last year and after I got to our cabin decided that they wouldn’t work for what I wanted – so I called and told them I am returning them… they gave me such a hard time… made me feel guilty and cheap because of my return. I ended up getting only a store credit – which I was fine with… I ended buying a 2nd Golden Chain Tree. :-) Its doing great. For trees– I would still purchase here… however Coneflowers, and shrubs… because of the price… I have started skipping over to Greenhouse garden Center in Carson City… I get twice as many shurbs and coneflowers then here.

This nursery has so much potential ~ beautiful setting, mature plantings alongside those that are for sale, and an obvious knowledge on someone’s part of how to put it all together and make it work. The down side here is the«Tahoe usual» attitude among the sales staff. There are some businesses here on South Shore that never quite get, even in this shaky economy, that there are other more pleasant places to shop for the same items. I went in looking for shrubbery. The natural setting is intriguing but there were few signs, so I inquired where I’d find perennial shrubs. I had to wait for two salespeople to allow me to interrupt their personal conversation. The reply I received went something like: «Walk down this path here, make a right, then turn left twice and you should just see them.» They immediately went back to chatting, with no further thought for my needs. My car was easier to find, and I did.

Nursery Snobbery! That’s what my husband dubbed this place after our final visit. All I wanted was a reasonably priced maple tree that would grow well in a pot. I’ve never been made to feel bad about buying a tree before. The sardonic response I got from the woman who thinks she’s the goddess of all things green was, «You’re looking for something that will grow in a pot? You can grow ANYTHING in a pot. What are you looking for?» She appeared to be bothered by wasting her time on such a mundane question. When asked if she had anything that wasn’t 95 dollars, her response was that I could go anywhere and find the same plants for less money, but that she paid more for her plants so she had to charge more. As my husband was practically holding a dwarf tree and waving it around, she failed to even take notice that we might have some interest in purchasing it. She was too busy insulting me and explaining the obvious to me about how I don’t want to put a tree under the eaves where it will suffer drippage and that the«microclimate» of our house’s location wouldn’t tolerate such a thing as a live plant. Apparently her plants are snobs, too. And… we live in a great neighborhood. Nope. I’ll NEVER set foot on this place again. I went to Nel’s and found a beautiful maple for under 30 dollars. And I live happily ever after. So does my tree… in my «microclimate».

A great little garden nursery in South Lake Tahoe. You can find a great selection of Tahoe natives and Tahoe friendly plants here. They also have a good selection of soil and soil amendments. The nursery is small but they have everything packed into the space very nicely so that you will enjoy a stroll while looking for your preferred plants. Aspen Hollow also participates in numerous local nonprofits and conservation organizations; I’ve enjoyed the special wine tasting events held here to benefit the local Sierra Club group, and then there’s the garden over at the Keep Tahoe Blue offices that Aspen Hollow donated services to design and install the Tahoe-Friendly garden. Check it out!

The Pluses: Well laid out garden center with a wide selection and good mix of perennials /trees to choose from. All the perennials I picked up were Tahoe sturdy(IE — not a whole lot needs to be done to winterize them *low maintenance*) and the trees seemed very healthy. Always sad when you go to a nursery to see trees dying in pots. The Not-As-Pluses: All the plants were laid out on the ground, so we had to bend over to read tags or take a closer look. It’s still fairly early in the sprummer season, so a lot of the plants looked very sad, as the cold had been getting to them. Having the plants on the ground also put them at the perfect height for our toddler to go around and remove all the tags, so mummy spent 95% of her time replacing tags vs. plant shopping. Something for those of you with wee ones to think about. Overall, it’s a lovely, shady nursery with a vast selection. I’ll be coming back when it’s a bit more summery(vs. sprummery) to pick up some plants — sans midget this time.

Good spot. Staff is usually super friendly and helpful. I would give them the fifth star if they stocked more natives.

One of the best laid out nurseries I have had the pleasure of visiting. Staff are extremely friendly as well as knowledgeable. The owner is also a landscape design artist. Couldn’t ask for a more thorough nursery for any of your needs.

There are a few basic supplies that you can get cheaper at a big box store, but I get almost everything else here. Great selection, beautiful setting and a helpful, knowledgeable staff(which is often lacking at the chains).
