This was my 1st time visiting Lake Tahoe and I noticed there are loads of tourists like me around town. The problem is I don’t like eating where the tourists go so I am glad I found this hole in the wall. The food is good and the prices are good and the best part is I am supporting a mom/pop joint, like literally the owners are husband & wife. How sweet is that? This place is small but comfortably decorated in a Latin theme. We came for breakfast and was offered the Free vege soup along with the customary house salsa and chips. The salsa was served heated which I’ve never had before. It had a slight kick to it which the girlfriend fancied. I had 1 of the specials of the day, huevos a la mexicana served with beans & rice. Mmmm mmmm it was good. She has the machaca. We loved the grub and will return for sure

My husband and I were in Lake Tahoe for the weekend. We were looking for a good breakfast place on Unilocal, and came across this location. I was pretty impressed with the reviews when I first read them. But when we came I, my experience was different. First, it’s a very small place, which is fine, but they only have 2 people working there the whole place. Seems like a mom & pop shop. They were the ones who seated us, served us, and cooked our food. Two people for the whole place. Sounds like it shouldn’t be a problem, except that it took us over an hour to have breakfast, which should have only taken 30 minutes. The food. I’m giving the food 2 stars. All these great reviews on Unilocal might be referring to their lunch menu, but they’re breakfast menu wasn’t impressive at all. My coffee was very watered down, I couldn’t even drink it. I ordered eggs with sausage & a biscuit with gravy. Seems like you can’t go wrong with that. But it wasn’t good. Over all, they were nice people, but I wouldn’t come back here again. Not for breakfast.

Yesterday was full of biking and swimming. I ended up dehydrated and a little sunburned. I woke up this morning regretting everything. That all changed when we walked into Local’s. After I ordered my veggie omelet the server brought out chips with a warm, roasted salsa and some very salty veggie soup that reminded me of every soup my mom made in the 1970s. It was exactly what I needed. When my veggie-packed omelet arrived I felt like it was the morning after a house party and their Tio made us all an enormous breakfast. The portions are Tio sized! Share a meal unless you are going to have a very active day! Feeling more human now and I have leftovers for later.

This is your stereo typical hole in the wall. Tiny place with 7 tables complete with cheesy 70’s décor. However the chips and salsa is to die for! The burrito was fat and pretty damn good! The food Did take a while for the two of us, but was pretty good. It is off the beaten path, but worth the hunt!

I love this place ! Not only is the food amazing. it’s a little family owned restaurant with great service! With your meal they give you a free bowl of soup and chips and salsa. You don’t see that often. After we paid, they also give you a piece of candy with your check. So nice! You can tell that they really care about their customers ! If I lived in this area I would definitely be a regular!

Excellent service and breakfast. The food I had so much flavor and big size portion. I love the free chips and warm salad and also soup that comes with your food, which really gets you full too. I had the huevos rancheros and add a carne asada to it, they also have American breakfast too. Definitely a good place to eat, a hole in the wall with a good prices.

Amazing little Mexican restaurante. The chips are homemade and baked again before served to be warm n delicious, along with a unique red salsa which was also heated up. Incredible flavor. Got the eggs n cactus and breakfast burrito with charizo. WOW, the that charizo was homemade and perfect. Homemade tortillas to boot. Trying out this truly local type spot is a mistake. Also a great brewery next door to top off that meal.

Wow what a great find for non-locals open to local places! We didn’t want to wait 45 minutes for Driftwood Café and Maya’s was closed so we Unilocaled this place. The outside made me laugh because of the bears on the windows but I thought hey it’s a locals joint. We walked in and immediately recognized the smell of fresh food cooking. It turned out to be the BEST salsa I’ve ever eaten. The chilies were roasted and it came out steaming. I had the veggie omelet which was delish and came with a side of beans. Low prices too. I’m coming back next visit!

I walked here pumped. I love the Mexican breakfast idea, with a local flair for Tahoe. I ordered coffee, as did my wife, which came and was watered down hazelnut pre-grounded coffee. Good hazelnut coffee is the worst, but crappily made watery coffee was simply undrinkable. I ordered juevos rancheros, and they were fine. No complaints. My wife ordered a breakfast burrito with sausage and potatoes, with a side of guac. When it came, there was no guac… and when we cut it open, there was bacon and no potatoes. Whoops, obviously mistaken order… no big deal. So we called the attention of the wait staff and asked if they could get the right order for us. The lady came back about 2 minutes later with a burrito with sausage and potatoes in it and said, «I make a new one for you.» My wife starts eating it, and finds some leftover pieces of bacon. Look, I don’t care if you just took a bunch of the bacon out, put sausage and potatoes in, and gave it back. That’s cool. But don’t lie to our faces about ‘making a new one’. That’s bad customer service. So, 4 star for the food, minus one star for the coffee, and minus one star for boldly lying to our faces.

The search for Sunday brunch began on Saturday this past weekend. We were up at the Lake for the Bluegrass Festival and knew full well that we would not be in the right state of mind to be making decisions the next morning, so we began searching Unilocal the afternoon prior to lineup some options. Four Unilocalers went to work, and the search revealed a few diner type establishments, some higher end options, and Locals. We ruled out high end in favor of grease, and then we ruled out the diners because we wanted something a little more and their food seemed so basic. We also felt their location and proximity to tourist hot spots may be a reason why they’d received so many great reviews. So we landed on Locals, who serves a Mexican breakfast menu in addition to some typical American fare. First off, the place is small. Coming with a large party is not advised. When you pull up, don’t be discouraged by the exterior, instead be encouraged by the friendly bears painted on the windows inviting you inside for some tasty eats and free soup! Yep. That sign is true and they give you a hot bowl of veggie soup, along with chips and a delicious salsa, with every meal. The service here is fair, which I mainly attribute to the fact it’s small and there’s one or two people working the front to take and place orders, run food and drink and bus tables. Since it seems like a family run spot, I’m giving them a pass here and suggesting you bring a little extra patience to this one. The food is delicious! Clearly homemade, with lots of love. We came for breakfast and they have a full menu of Mexican hits. I chose chilaquiles, scrambled eggs with some house red salsa, peppers, cheese and chips mixed in while cooking. Mmmmmm! This is the hangover breakfast of champions! My wife had the huevos rancheros, which were also fantastic, and the breakfast burrito my friend ordered was the size of a small child and chock full of deliciousness. The coffee however, needs some work. Overall a solid 4 star stop that we were all glad we made. If Mexican breakfasts are your thing, they go getcha some at Locals!

This review is a little tough to write because they deserved a 5 star for effort but we were let down with the food quality. We almost missed this little place as we drove to our hotel, it’s only 20 ft wide at the most and it is located on a side street in a strip of commercial buildings but I just had to try it out the next morning. I wasn’t to sure what kind of food to expect but the front window stated breakfast and lunch with a free bowl of soup, so I was excited to try out a new breakfast joint. When we entered, it was full except for one table with dirty plates still on it. We waited a few minutes before the cook came out to great us and ask us for just a few more minutes of waiting till she got the table clean. Clearly she was the only one working. Once we were seated, the wait continued while she cooked the other customers food, then by the grace of the gods, the extra help arrived! The wait wasn’t without it’s virtues as we were able to enjoy the extremely eclectic décor in side this tiny café. From Elvis and Marilyn Monroe photos, to Buddha idols, Chinese fans on the wall, sombreros and a perilously leaning TV on the wall. I have no clue what style this might be called other than«Hole-in-the-wall retro ethnic style», if there is such a thing. We ordered coffee and waters from the just arrived waitress, then ordered breakfast from the delightful home style menu. First we ordered Bacon waffles, breakfast burrito and a 2 egg with hash-browns and bacon breakfast. Then we received our free vegetable soup and it was fantastic! Just full of small diced vegetables of carrots, celery and potatoes. The food arrived quickly enough but it lacked any sort of excitement other than the burrito was huge. But it all seemed rushed. My potatoes were just not quite cooked all of the way and the bacon was delivered after we started eating. My son claimed the breakfast burrito was amazing, so it must have been. Local’s Brunch Café is more of a Mexican restaurant that serves home style breakfast too. I think that on a better day the food would probably be amazing but this wasn’t our day. Price was fair and we walked out with four breakfast and two coffees for $ 30.00
