Margaritas Mexican Cafe

We moved from the great state of California years ago and have missed local genuine Mexican food, guess what… we found it in S. Lake Tahoe.
The minute we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcome and we knew this is going to be it. Warm chips, fresh salsa and a cold beer was the perfect start. The menu was filled with many of our favorites but the Chimichanga was above and beyond with Carnitas, beans and cheese and then of course fried to perfection. We also had the cheese enchilada, beef and chicken taco and a chili relleno.
Thanks for being in the right place at the right time, looking forward to coming back… maybe again before we leave!

Great placenta. Friendly family service. Nice pleasant atmosphere. Food is outstanding. Wife had steak fajita burrito. Best she’s ever had. I had grilled mahi mahi. Came on a fish shaped plate cute. Fish was done perfectly.

2 ½ stars– Came for breakfast and not as good, was ok. The chilaquiles and chorizo and eggs lacked flavor. The restaurant was cold along with food. Wouldn’t go again for breakfast.

I haven’t found a lot of places in this area that serve legit Mexican food. Margarita’s is definitely a place that you can get yummy Mexican food for a decent price. The nachos are great, the tacos are great, and the chilaquiles were also really good for a breakfast item. The happy hour is also excellent as far as drinks go.

We stumbled across this restaurant and are so glad we did.
I’m always in search of good Mole and they make it per order and it was very tasty.
The chips were fresh and the salsa had a little kick.
My family ordered the special enchilada suiza and never finished a meal and hammered it.
My husband who usually can house a lot of food only ate half of the super burrito. He was so full couldn’t finish it. All yummy.

I had the combination was excellent — definitely get the chile rellenos. The salsa is the best i’ve had and when i asked for more they brought out a big dish! May go back this week!

The service wonderful. The chips yummy with excellent chunky salsa and also a bean dip salsa. A marvelous veggie burrito — so glad when Mexican places have a veggie choice. I will be back. If you are hungry for Mexican food this is the place! Do not be fooled by its unassuming exterior.

Great, hole in the wall Mexican spot. We stopped in on our way out of town, and had both great food and great service. The huevos rancheros were some of the best I’ve ever had. Everything was seasoned well and came out piping hot. Highly recommend — especially after a night out!

This is my go to happy spot. They have amazing service and food. This is a family run restaurant and mom or dad are always here. The kids love to come here just as much as we do. There is never an off day for food or service. The name margaritas couldn’t be for fitting as their margaritas are delicious. Thank you margaritas for always comin threw!

Wonderful Mexican food with efficient friendly service. I have lived in San Francisco for most of my 61 years and have a career as a professional food stylist; I pride myself in knowing good food and I am very skeptical of restaurants in seasonal resort areas.
Our meal here last night was absolutely delicious, served on super hot plates, perfectly seasoned without being overly salty. I ordered my standard favorite meal, (which is my way of testing a restaurant);
A combination plate of chili relleno and a chicken enchilada with rice and refried
beans, it came with sour cream and guacamole. Both items were served with an excellent green sauce; the meal was truly to die for. My wife and son’s meals were equally delicious. Our margarita rocks were served in large plastic tumblers, though I noticed they do use a bottled margarita mix, they still tasted pretty dam good and were a wonderful value at only $ 5.25.
This place is not fancy but it is extremely comfortable; I can’t wait to return!

Stumbled across this place as we were looking for something to eat.
Being from the Bay Area we are always so skeptical about Mexican food and tried another well reviewed place (not good at all).
This little family owned restaurant is the absolute best in Tahoe. Many nice places here but I have to say this was the most satisfying. Large portions, beer on tap, friolitos and salsa while you wait for your food. Delicious.
The asada was soft and flavorful, shredded beef tast like beef birria, chorizo con huevos to die for, absolutely everything was good.
We will be back for more!

Great food and service. My boyfriend and I came up for a weekend get away and were super hungry after the 4 hour drive from oakland. We came to this place because we were attracted by the margarita call out. They sat us immediately and brought us chips and salsa and beans. They’re happy hour is Monday –Friday 3 – 6 so yayyy we came at the right time ! 3 $ margaritas yum ! The margarita was not strong (which is why I’m giving this place a 4 out of 5. I ordered shrimp and steak tacos which were amazing and my boyfriend ordered the barri dish. We both loved our meal ! This place was great !

We were a group of 8 adults and 7 kids coming in for a weekend lunch. They gave us the back corner room. The food arrived hot all at the same time. No order was missed or scrambled. While we waited — a reasonable time for the size of our group — we were brought endless bowls of bean dip, the world’s BEST salsa, and chips fresh from the fryer. Our soda glasses were bottomless. Our server, a young man, could not have been nicer or more attentive. The food was fantastic and the prices were good.
This is a funky little family-​run business with clean bathrooms, fabulous food, and outstanding service.

I really wanted to give this place five stars but all of our food was so bland I just couldn’t they were very nice and friendly this furnishings are a bit on the old side and things are falling apart a bit but I’m not picky as long as the food is good but sadly it wasn’t. They have 3 dollar margaritas which were yummy but a little strong. My husband said have a couple more then maybe the food will taste better!

Great family owned restaurant. You’ll start with some amazing home made tortilla chips with a great tomato salsa. We had a veggie burrito wet was amazing. My husband had the chicken tostada which was fantastic. Great location and lots of locals here to support this great place. I hear the chili rellenos are amazing so I can’t wait to go back and taste these yummy delights.

Let people know or at least update your info. Came out excited for margaritas and good mexican food for my husband’s birthday, says it’s open until 9pm tonight, got here at 8 and it’s closed :(

I recommend this place if you want some reasonable good Mexican food. They start you off with chips salsa and beans with cheese… so yummy

My friend and I were looking for some good Mexican food and found Margaritas Café here on Unilocal,because the reviews were pretty good we decided to try. I’m giving it 3 stars because the people/​staff are great, they make you feel welcomed and my friend liked her food. I got a 1 item combination– tamale with rice and beans and my friend got the chilaquiles with eggs (we weren’t there for breakfast, she just likes this dish with eggs).
My whole meal was eh, ok. Nothing made me think… wow! I have to come back here. I really didn’t care for the beans, they didn’t have much flavor. Rice was ok and the tamale was ok.
The staff… Super friendly and good service.

My family and I were looking for a great lunch spot and fellow Unilocalers lead us to a great spot!
The workers there are super friendly and welcoming.
The food was very delicious! I had the shrimp fajita which had a sweeter flavor but don’t let that steer you wrong! It was mouth watering delish!
