Hardware and Garden Center with local love. I just bought a few new plants for the garden and soil and pots to plant them in. The garden center at Nel’s is gorgeous and I wish I could take it to my backyard. Full of trees, flowers, benches, tables, local artwork for the garden, fountains, a few greenhouses with vegetables etc. the garden makes me want to stay and have a picnic. The staff here is very friendly and helpful! The hardware store has all the things I need for when the faucet at home needs to be replaced or I need screws or parts for my vacuum. And it’s a local store which is rather support than a chain. Easy parking access and the prices on things are very reasonable. I’m glad we have this store and garden center!

My favorite plant nursery and a hidden gem. The staff is very knowledgable, friendly and overall happy. The girls always approach me with a smile and help me with all my plant inquiries. The merchandise is the most affordable in town, and the English garden theme is inspiring. Dave in the hardware store, has helped me countless times. He is a mechanical servant– he can fix anything! I love this place!!!

Last time we visited, we definitely came too early in the season. This time the front lot was overflowing with annuals and perennials of every size and color(lantanas and fucias!) and the actual Garden Center has a decent variety of trees and shrubbery to chose from. Two notes: –If you have little kids, plan on leaving them at home or carrying them the whole time. Most of the plants are laid out on the ground, and trying to keep our toddler from pulling all the tags out of them was an adventure, to say the least. –No one outside to answer questions and pricing is vague at best. Still, great selection at an easy to access location.

Fairly big local plant nursery. Knowledgeable people running the show, good variety of native plants and other amendments and décor.

Before I came to terms with the fact that I have the black thumb of death, I’d spend a fair bit of time and money at Nel’s Garden Center. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and most importantly, patient with those who are horticulturally challenged. They’ve got a wide selection of potted plants, seeds, pots, soils and amendments and garden chotskis, and its central location(behind Freshies off Fremont) makes it easy to get to, if not to find. If I wasn’t so sure I was the grim reaper of backyard blooms, I’d spend more money here.

When I eventually get around to planting something that my wife will try to kill, I’ll come here. I wonder if Palm trees stand a chance up in Tahoe? I normally come to Nel’s for other home & hardware related stuff(see: ). Outta sight but not outta mind. My first stop if I need anything up in Tahoe. Meeks(see: ) is a little too far. *one-oh-threezie*
