Great place to grab and get a casual slice. A couple of my friends and I came here to grab a few slices. The environment was really friendly, good vibes coming from the people up front, very responsive, very nice, felt like home. I ordered two slices of the calamari pizza. It was really flavorful, I could taste really fresh calamari, just like how they make it as an appetizer on pizza, delish! Pizza was crunchy, not that oily, which is good. I also really like the décor, modern feels but still has some traditional to it. Great pizza for a good price.

I went here with 10 others and the service was so bad. The guy at the register over charged me and when I called he was rude. I waited forever for my order and everyone was so frustrated. I will never buy there again. This has happened over and over I gave them another chance but their service sucks

I had pizza from this restaurant a few months ago and it was pretty good. The plain pie had good flavor and the buffalo chicken pie was pretty good too. I can’t say anything about the restaurant itself as we got take out, but the pizza is worth it and I’d probably get a pie from here again.

Pretty good food, terrible service… We get take-out pizza from here every so often, but we gave up eating at the restaurant a couple of years ago because the service was so consistently poor. We decided to give them another try tonight… and it was just as bad as ever. They’re not just severely understaffed — though that’s clear — but the staff was unbelievably inattentive. As in: they quite obviously forgot to put in our child’s food order, so that came halfway after we were done eating our made-to-order calzones — and after we had asked after it three times.(Every time we asked, they said it was on the way, instead of admitting that they’d repeatedly forgotten to warm up a couple of pizza slices. And there was PLENTY of pizza in the front cases.) As in: when we paid the bill and had already handed one of the servers our money, he looked down at it and said, «You want to pay cash?»(No, young man, we’re just handing you bills for safekeeping.) We also had to ask multiple times for silverware, multiple times for the bill… and then the final jab: it took 15 minutes to get our change. I wound up getting up from the table and going over to the servers’ station to remind them that we were still waiting. C’mon, Village Trattoria — you’ve had three locations for years. Surely your owners know that Friday nights are really busy, right? Or are you just too cheap to staff up and spend time training your workers?

Best. Pizza. Ever. So good and the staff is so nice. There’s something about their crust… and their dough… and all the toppings put together… mmmmm I’m getting hungry writing this. I have recommended this shop to all my pizza lover friends. So basically all my friends. Worth the trip to come here!

Pasta fagioli was amazing! Spot on. Great start to the meal. The pizza is definitely delicious and there are so many to choose from. Went with the sausage and was very happy with it. Dad got the meatballs and said they were great, the best lunch he’s had in a while. And on top of that the service was very fast and the employees are nice.

The food is always SO good. I have never had a bad meal here. Service is good not great. There are a few awesome servers but the others are just average. They recently raised their prices, but it is still reasonable. The specialty slices are awesome, I actually won’t order their plain slices because I do not think they are as good. The chicken noodle soup is really good too and all entrees are usually big portions for the price you pay. This place gets packed though so expect a line, but it is good for dine in or take out.

This is my go-to pizza spot in town. I just moved to South Orange about a year and a half ago and am glad this is so close to my home. Their pizza is consistently good — thin crust, good flavors and variety and their pasta is also tasty. I’d say that their pies are on the pricier side — but they’re worth the $.

So, I don’t mean to be a hater or anything here, but I like the one in Maplewood Village much better. Village Trattoria in South Orange on Vose is fine. There’s nothing wrong with it. It has lots of things going for it — many different slices to choose(and all delicious), great location by the train station and heart of the village… but the food is just OK. My friends and I went to the Maplewood VT for dinner first. We were a large group, so it was a feast that night. We ordered calamari, salads, pizza, and pastas(with vodka sauce), and of course ate family-style so each of us could get a little taste of everything. It was an absolute feast and everything we tasted amazing. So when my friend came to visit me and we went to the South Orange one, we were expecting the same life-changer experience. The disappointment was sobering. Pizza was great, but the pasta. It wasn’t like S’barros, but it wasn’t that much better. Other than the pizza, the food is nothing to rave about. If you have a choice, go to the Village Trattoria in Maplewood.

We came here after a long hike up at South Mountain Reservation. Both famished and craving comfort food. Not far from the South Orange train station(4 min walk), we found this spacious little pizzeria. I love that you have the option to build your own pasta, I got tortellini(large) with Alfredo sauce and sausage. Mozzarella sticks and a pepperoni calzone, which was HUGE! My tortellini was awesome, cooked perfectly and the Alfredo sauce was on point. Plenty of creaminess but not overly seasoned. They were very generous with the amount of sausage in the dish, another plus! From the one bite I had of the calzone, I could tell whoever was in the kitchen knew what they were doing. It was baked to perfection. With the right amount of ricotta, mozzarella and pepperoni. You could definitely feed two people off this thing! Or one really hungry guy :) Overall it’s a great local place for a date or just to hangout, definitely will be back to see why the line was so long for the pizza!

Above average neighborhood pizzeria. Decent selection of pastas and salad. Not gourmet, but a good lunch spot or dinner for families with small kids. Clean. Fresh ingredients.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for awhile, but I’m always conflicted as to what to rate it as. Let me explain… So the pizza is phenomenal, hands down. They have tons of different flavors and toppings, especially lots of unique ones like honey mustard and chicken and, my favorite, the Drunken Grandma(vodka sauce with mozzarella). If you ever get the chance to dine in with a fresh pizza, do it – they’re amazing. My issues lie with the non-pizza items, mainly the pastas(and the one salad I’ve tried). These items are not nearly as up to par as the pizzas. The pastas are average – the pasta itself can be overcooked and the flavors of the sauces are nothing notable(with the exception of the vodka sauce). I have tried both grilled chicken and grilled vegetables on my pastas, and both were pretty terrible. The chicken had a horrendous, rubbery texture and an odd pink color that I could not get over. The vegetables were mushy and tossed with far too much oil. I’ve also had a Caesar salad, which I think is way over priced for simply lettuce, cheese, and what tastes like store bought croutons and dressings. I’m giving this place 3.5 stars from me – an average from 5 for the excellent pizza and 2 for the terrible everything else. Long story short, aim for the pizza only!

Decent place for quick slices. Have lots of specialty pizzas. I got a cheese slice and a buffalo chicken ranch place. Like I said good but not excellent. Slices range from $ 2 to $ 3

If you are looking to grab a slice of pizza this place is great. They have at least 20 different slice options– some are really out there for a slice(chicken fingers and French fries), but it is a college town! I haven’t actually had that slice, but I have had their plain, pepperoni, BBQ chicken and buffalo chicken and all are tasty. Their Italian sub is my favorite thing to get here! Like most pizza places they have a sit down area w service or an area in the front for counter service. I’ve never had a fine in experience here, but I can’t imagine it being bad based on the experience I do have.

I had the drunken grandma which is like a caprese pizza with vodka sauce instead of marinara and it’s a pretty solid pie. The calamari was also notably good.

This area has a lot of pizza places to choose from. It’s not the cheapest of them, but I dare say it’s the best. There is a large selection of specialty pizzas and toppings including the buffalo chicken and my favorite penne pizza. The dining area is large and the service is quick. They have a large selection of other things to eat typical to a pizza place. They also have drinks unique to here, such as the trattoria ginger ale. I’d recommend here, but if you’re watching your wallet, try pirates or ‘village’ pizza further up in town.

We’ve been here on numerous occasions, most of time we’re do full we lazily forget to rate this trattoria. The pizze’ are great, particularly the Greek salad pizza. Took a little while, but we guessed the oven was on lazy mode today. Enjoy!

Quick and friendly service. LOVE that they have whole wheat slices. They are absolutely delicious(arugula with chicken, roasted peppers, onion and mozzarella — or once had bruschetta). Other great slices: Buffalo Chicken, Fiesta(buffalo chicken with fries), and Sicilian. Greek Salad slice is also great, but needs some dabbing first of all the oil.
