Great little spot before we hit up the Sea Dogs. What’s not to like about this place? It’s everything you want in a casual seafood place. Great atmosphere, quick service, decent prices, and outstanding food. The lobster roll was fresh with no fillers and overflowing with delicious lobster. Clam strips were. Corn on the cob to end the meal really hit the spot! Overall: perfect casual spot to get great seafood outside of downtown Portland!

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Docks. I love their seafood. The last time I was here I got a salad with grilled scallops. It was great! Today however, I decided to get a small salad with two crab cakes,(I love that you can but them individually). Well, my first salad had an unreasonable ratio of black, liquified greens in it for me to be ok with, especially for the small size of the salad. It would have taken no time for someone to go through the handful of greens and make sure that they were sound. When I showed it to one of the ladies at the counter, she absolutely agreed with me and offered to get me a new one. When my second salad arrived, the lady asked if this one was better. I pointed out the nickel-sized liquid lettuce that was right on top. She looked at it, asked if it was ok, and I told her I would let her know. This salad’s ratio of liquid-to-fresh greens was an improvement, but not by much. Unfortunately, I just didn’t have the energy to go up and request my money back. The crab cakes were tasty. I feel that a little more attention on the part of the kitchen staff and their counter staff who tray up their food could go a long way. One last thing, if you are delivering a 2nd food item that is meant to improve upon a previous, sub-par food item and you witness the same exact problem… don’t deliver it and ask if it’ll be ok. It won’t be.

Waste of time and money. We ordered lobster roll, coleslaw and lobster stew and everything tasted store bought and was overpriced. The lobster stew tasted like packaged lobster dumped in warm milk. I don’t say this lightly, but this was possibly one of the worst meals of my life.

Four of us ate here at 4:30PM on a Friday. Outdoor seating area was big but we ate inside. As they got busier, it got very loud. Fried haddock, fried scallops, and the lobster roll were outstanding. Fried shrimp and clam strips were good but average. Sweet potato fries may be the best we’ve had and onion rings were very good. Cole slaw did not have a lot of dressing. All of the staff were very friendly. As we walked in, they could tell we’d never been there. They greeted us and explained where the menu and specials were posted. You place an order at the counter, they call your number when your food is ready, and you bring it to your table.

A great little seafood place, moderate pricing. Order and pick up at the counter. Get this, they have a happy hour, BYOB!!! BYOB!!! Really! Food was fresh and tasty, portions were, while not huge, generous. I had fried shrimp and french fries. The fries were a tad fishy but it’s a seafood place… They also sell fresh, raw seafood for take home. And they have a few desserts, very large cookies, pie. Dining room was clean and roomy, comfortable seating. While small, it’s very nice. We will go again!

I was here’s week ago. Like the food here but last week I got fish and chips to take home. When I got home was very disappointed that it was very cold and dried out. Wasn’t very happy.

Best lobster rolls on the east coast. Crazy affordable at only $ 12 and stuffed full of lobster meat. Best part is they go light on the mayo, so you get well with your meat craving.

THELOCATION This family friendly local favorite located in South Portland at the intersection of Evans Street and Broadway is just a short 4−½ mile car ride from Portland Jetport. THEPARKING Ample lot parking is available on this spacious corner property. THEATMOSPHERE Brightly lit and sparse, this restaurant is a casual diner-type of eatery with a large, easy-to-read wall menu board to the right of the entrance and cheerful staff waiting to take your order at the counter. There is plenty of roomy seating in the adjacent dine-in area. On this occasion, it was at an off peak hour so we pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves. THEFOOD As the last two meals of our New England adventure, we were thrilled to enjoy such deliciously fresh seafood in the quiet comfort of our vacation rental on our final day before our return home. Everything was wonderfully tasty and we were more than satisfied with the portions received for our take-out lunch and dinner. —Twin 1.25# Lobster Dinner w/corn-on-the-cob, coleslaw $ 25.99— —Lobster Roll $ 12.99— —Slice of Maine Blueberry Pie $ 2.50— —Lunch-sized Fried Clam w/onion rings, coleslaw $ 12.99— —Bowl of Corn Crab Chowder $ 9.99— THESERVICE We were met with excellent and efficient service as the folks behind the counter were warm, hospitable and inviting. Since we were ordering take-out, they made sure we were well stocked with utensils and napkins, and even offered to crack our lobster just in case we didn’t have the proper tools. They made sure to double check our order just to insure that everything was in the bag before we left.

This is where the locals go and eat. Great seafood and great prices. I’ve had the fried haddock, clam strips, shrimp, crab cakes, and everything was delicious. The fries are cut and made from fresh potatoes and are great. Service is quick and both the dine-in and takeout options are good.

A nice casual seafood shack south of Portland. They have a big menu posted at the front and you order at the counter. While the hours weren’t the best(I believe they close at 8), they were open during the winter which is what we cared about. Prices were ok, with the twin lobster special around $ 27. The lobsters were normal size(around 1 – 1.25 pounds), very fresh and well cooked. The clam strips were very good, as was the clam chowder(may have been a bit heavy on the potato).

The place was nice, the food was good but the folks serving really made the place. Great folks with big smile and a Ron of patients for us out of towners, trying not to look like tourist. Their prices are fair and they will even give you a small sample of you ask nicely. I will be back, next time that I am in Portland

I want to give these guys the benefit of the doubt because I love the fact that it is not touristy, that you can call ahead and get food to go, and that they have a friendly staff. We have gone before and been satisfied, but last night, the fried clams we got were just okay — nothing horrible, but nothing I would go back for either. I hope that they get some more flavor in their food — and a little less soggy — but until then, I will be looking around for other places.

I ordered a lobster roll for $ 11.99& a luncheon plate of fried clams for $ 6.99. Overall I believe these prices to be pretty cheap. The lobster roll had a good amount of lobster in it but lacked flavor and didn’t hit the spot like usual. The roll was very plain and thicker than a hot dog bun but I found myself ripping a lot of it off. The clams lacked bellys & overall were very small strips battered. Kind of rubbery. Was super disappointed with the clam plate since I was craving them for weeks. My companion ordered a fried haddock sandwich and he reported that it was a little on the plain size but at an average price of $ 8 I guess he got what he paid for. He also ordered a bay scallop dinner and they were rather small with the batter being a bit on the gooey side. The staff was very friendly so a star is deserved in that aspect. I do believe in 2nd chances and will go back to try other things from the menu. Perhaps for their happy hour from 3 – 6 where they offer a POUND of mussels for $ 5.99!!!

A decent place to come and eat. We were in Portland for a family vacation and was looking for a good seafood place with decent price and was glad we found here. Very surprised they close so early at 8pm. We ordered the twin lobsters with Cole slaw and french fries and a order of their mussels. Food took a while to come out. And the lobsters was a lot smaller than I expected. But at $ 25 for 2 lobsters I guess I can’t complaint. The lobsters were a bit overcooked and hard to chew. But you can taste that it was very fresh. Nothing too special with the mussels. It was just regular steam mussels served with butter sauce. Self service. You order the food at the counter and pick your own table to sit. Place was very clean. And people working there was very friendly Overall a solid and decent place if you are in the area

My normal place was closed due to holiday, so I solicited advice from my staff and was given Dock’s as an alternative for a decent fried seafood platter. I called to verify they were open on the holiday — they were, so I visited later that evening for a meal. This is a non-touristy location, off the beaten path. The staff/owners were nice and made me feel welcome. I ordered a fried seafood platter with clam strips, shrimp, and scallops. This comes with fries or baker, cole slaw, roll and butter, for $ 19.99. You get up charged $ 2.50 for O-rings if you want to sub them for fries or baked potato. I was slightly put off by the $ 2 charge for taking your food to go, but it’s cool. I ordered and was asked to wait for the food to be cooked to order. No problem. The location is clean, bright and has free wifi. I waited about 10 minutes and my number was called. Condiments were offered, and off I went. The food was decent. I have an entire box of fries left over after eating as many as I could. They were good — cooked with the skins on. Vinegar would be nice, but it was not offered. The clam strips were decent and crunchy, albeit lacking a bit of flavor. The shrimp and scallops were plentiful as well, but, too, lacked flavor. The cole slaw — forget it. I took a bite and it was 100% tasteless. Even a spoonful of Marzetti’s would have been appreciated — no such luck. Others commented on the thimble size containers of condiments. The tarter was good to fair, but the cocktail sauce was this gelled concoction that I had to stir up to loosen it/un-gel it. Even still, it was like cocktail sauce pudding. Odd. In addition, you only got two thimble of each. Loosen the purse strings and give us more. The seafood was decent but for certain, needed these extra condiments. Docks rates a firm 3 stars in my book. The food was decent but nothing spectacular. You get a lot but the $ 2 hit to take your food to go, and then they go cheap on the condiments, was questionable and I took a star away for that. Figure out what is going on with your cocktail sauce, please! Chowderheads is my go to place in south Maine when I visit, as is Bayley’s on Pine Point road. Docks need a little help to get them out of that ho-hum two star status. Mediocre is a good word for their food. The service was great and that may grant some a repeat visit. I am a seafood fan however so I will thank them for the meal, but keep on down the line to my established favorites.

We’re lobster fanatics in South Portland Maine in December. The lobster pounds are closed. Everyone has huddled together for the winter. Still, if you seek out the right places — ye shall find. Yes, lobster and seafood is still served! You just have to find the local places. And Docks Seafood is one such. We each ordered our requisite lobster, as well as mussels. Yum e yum yum. After driving around during the day, you’d think that — somehow lobster season ended — even here on the South Portland coast. But no — that’s not true. You just have to find places like this. Why only four stars? Lobster was a bit overcooked, so were the mussels — but at least you could order and enjoy.

I’m only in Maine for one night, so I was determined to spend it well, preferably with a lobster. A quick Unilocal search brought up this spot, just a ten minute drive from my hotel, and the ratings were high, so I decided to check it out. Since January isn’t exactly peak season, I was worried there might not be much of a fresh selection, but thankfully, I was wrong. After quickly scanning the menu board, I chose the lobster dinner, a steamed lobster served with fries and coleslaw for $ 13.95. Had I known how darn cheap the«market price» was going to be, I would have ordered the double! Alas, I went with the single, and enjoyed every bite. I asked for it to be cracked, and the chef actually kindly cleaned it for me, leaving just the tail in the shell, which made for pleasant, easy eating. Docks has an easy-going, laid-back feel. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. You order and pay at the counter, then find yourself a seat at a plastic-topped tables. Lobsters await their saunas in a tank by some of the tables, which assures freshness and entertains the kids. There didn’t appear to be a ton of seating, though I suppose during warmer months you can eat outside. There are newspapers for those who are passing time waiting for take-out, which also makes this a friendly place for single diners. If I’m ever back in the South Portland area, you can bet I’ll be stopping at Docks!
