This place is amazing. The wine is great, homemade, family owned and operated and well priced. The grounds are beautiful and rustic and the employees are kind and informative. This place is beautiful, peaceful and overall amazing. We are very pleased with our experience here and are especially happy with the service and wine quality after going to another low quality vineyard in the area. Thank you old filed staff for the great experience and wine! We will certainly be back!

It’s January and you wouldn’t think to visit a vineyard but it’s the best time! Its quaint and wonderfully personable mother and daughter owners make it extra special. I honestly loved it! And I am coming here again. I’ve gone to others and this is a winner for me. You must also try their 2010 merlot. It is very very good!

Earthy and wonderful. I love this farm and vineyard! Just a precious secret in the heart of Southold. Wine is wonderful, staff is lovely and the chickens and roosters are adorable!

We love the Old Field and make sure to stop by every visit to the North Fork. It’s casual inside the rustic tasting barn and the family that runs it are ever so kind and knowledgable. Today we had our three kids in tow, and the friendly owner brought the kids over to see the chicken coop. Try the steel fermented Chardonnay and Rooster Tail red blend — you won’t be disappointed!

This is a fantastic family run vineyard and winery. The owners and staff are knowledgable and incredibly friendly. My friend and I did the tasting by the bay, which is 5 wines(very generous pours) and a delicious cheese plate. The setting is stunning, outdoors right on the water. Setting is relaxed and you can stay and have an additional glass of wine after. They limit it to 8 per sitting so make a reservation! Great for seasoned and novice wine tasters alike.

Had a wonderful Friday afternoon at this beautiful vineyard right in the bay. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the private wine tasting overlooking the bay and sampled one sparkling, as well as six other wines. We ended up purchasing a bottle and their delicious Hot Pepper Jam! Will definitely go back again. Ross, who runs the family vineyard with her daughter, was sweet, very smart and gave us quiet an education while taking really good care of us.

I love the atmosphere at this winery. It is a small, family owned vineyard in a rustic, barnyard setting. They serve all dry wines, but I enjoyed the mixed flight even though I prefer semi dry wines. Plus with the purchase of their blush de noir, they make a donation to a local animal shelter!!! Love that! The owners are really friendly. They allow picnics which is great. Definitely a great place to spend the day!

This is the anti Martha Clara… That alone is worth 5 stars! This a non pretentious, rustic farm setting. They allow you to bring your own food to have a picnic when the weather is good, as long as you don’t leave a mess. In the winter they close off the tasting room from the outside and fire up the wood burning stove, creating a very cozy relaxing atmosphere. The wines are good, I really enjoy the rooster tail which is a great red table wine. My wife is into white wines, preferably sweet. They don’t offer sweet whites, but she did enjoy their Chardonnay. The staff are very friendly! This is a great family owned and operated small winery.

The setting is beautiful, the wine wasn’t the best I’ve had but it was good. The grounds are lovely, not like any other winery I’ve been to. It’s not commercialized at all which I appreciate. No music, no tour buses, no children running around screaming. If you appreciate a no frills winery with a rustic feel to it then defianetly check this place out.

The old field is a lovely small family run vineyard, and the prettiest spot on Long Island to have a picnic. It’s definitely a farm-like environment with chickens and ducks running around as you do your wine tasting. The family that runs it are some of the nicest people around. Be sure to ask about the summer time movie series on the lawn. It’s a great little secret thing to do(they don’t publicize it very much to keep the crowds smaller). The vineyard’s lawn sits right on the bay. But it’s a special treat only during the summer since the rest of the year they keep thay end of the property closed, except for weddings. I’ve also been to weddings here, they’re quite spectacular. I know there are people who have been in their wine club for decades, something that’s unheard of in the wine business because the family is just so welcoming and special.

Rating des Ortes: 4 San Francisco, CA
The Old Field is a rustic, no-frills, family run vineyards and winery located on the eastern end of the Long Island wine trail. They feature numerous Bordeaux varietals(try the Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc) and two lovely Chardonnays, one barrel — fermented, the other mostly stainless-steel-fermented. These are not Napa-style wines, and that’s the point.(If you want Napa, fly to San Francisco, drive north for an hour, and pay $ 20 per person per tasting while braving the crowds.) Long Island gets less sun and has a shorter growing season than Napa; thus, LI wines are less jammy, have more subtle flavors, and pair more readily with a wider variety of foods than Napa wines, much like wines made in Bordeaux, France. The Old Field is old-school and meant to be enjoyed accordingly: with calm repose and plenty of time to soak up the beautiful scenery and wandering chickens. Make sure to talk to Perry, Ros, and Chris(the proprietors) about the wine, how it’s made, and with what to pair it. You’ll cherish your visit and look forward to returning soon!

This is a mother daughter winery — daughter grows the grape — mom helps. Mom makes the wine — daughter helps. And the only winery left w/a beach front property home out there, but you can’t see it or the water because it’s closed to the public. Don’t expect anything fancy. This is a farm. With chickens walking around, etc. So if you’re scared of chickens, this is not for you. Too bad they don’t sell the eggs though. The staff was nice to us but we were on a tour. They wine is pretty ok, like a lot of LI wine. It’s not Napa after all. It wasn’t terrible, just not so good that you want to buy a bottle. The grounds are nice so you can sit and relax, picnic, let the kids run around, etc. as long as you don’t go past the private property signs. Basically you can’t walk the vineyards here. The wine tasting area is small and sometimes very crowded patio space. You can rent the space to get married but I heard it’s quite $$$. NO bathrooms — just porto potties which I kind of feel like is a little outrageous considering you’re charging people money to drink which may cause them to need to use the bathroom. I get it’s a farm and all, but maybe they should upgrade a little to accommodate people who come a little dressed up to visit wineries and pay good money to do so, no?

Rustic, relaxed with a great vibe — the antidote to bus laden commercial vineyards with good Chardonnay, rose, and Merlot. Very friendly family run vineyard on the Bay with lovely water view.

This vineyard is family owned, dating back to the 1850’s. Chickens are sprinkled around an old barn, and the owners are incredibly knowledgable and passionate about growing grapes. Go here as the last stop on your tour so you can relax on their grounds, and TRULY learn about the grape growing process.

Situated on one of the most pristine places on the whole of the North Fork, the Old Field Vineyards finds itself written into the very history of Long Island– even before the United States– back to the early 1600’s. With the grapes being grown nearly down to the water, frost, I’m told, is rarely a problem. On a recent birthday trip out to the wine trail, we came on the advice of a friend and were not disappointed. The owner and her daughter were busy sharing stories and wine flights, while we warmed our bones next to the cast iron stove and took in the sights and joined in the conversation. Mid-May can be a tad on the cool side until the sun is high in the sky; but the giant trees just behind the tasting room are sure to keep things cool in the height of Summer. I sampled all of the reds and took a few home– a sure sign I liked them. I’m a huge fan of dry red table wine and particularly like the«Rooster Tail». It’s simple and reminds me of growing up Italian and my years in Spain. Unpretentious and flavorful, it embodies what a red table wine should– Home, family, and friends. The owners had some stories of their own and we listened eagerly to a little of their story, their pets, a recent movie that was filmed there and also heard that they host special events, including weddings. Of course, we will certainly come back and enjoy more of what the Old Field Vinyards has to offer.

Old field. This place was clearly a family farm first with wine as an after thought. I hesitate to use the word«cozy» describe this location but there’s no other way to really portray the ambiance. You’re in a converted shed and that is no bigger than a shoe box. You’ll find a warm wood burning stove in the middle of the room with a lazy sleeping puppy next to it. Pet the puppy. Their Chardonnay is barrel and steel fermented and tasted pretty crisp. Chard is the oh-so-popular white grape but theirs tasted… different. I couldn’t put my finger on it but I bought and enjoyed a bottle of it later. I didn’t like all of the wines but I enjoyed the small family atmosphere here. This isn’t a big production winery, the family makes it sells it all themselves. I would have liked to wander out back if it was warmer. Guess I’ll just have to return in the summer.

The only reason why this winery is getting 2 stars is because of the animals and rustic farms, other than that everything else about this winery gets 2 thumbs down. I was really excited pulling into this winery. I did some research previously before and saw that they boasted that they are the only winery that has a private beach. On their website they have beautiful white arches and a pretty beach setting. I picked a couple of wineries to take engagement pictures of my brother and his fiancé(and of course sampling some wines as we went). As soon as I walked into the barn there was a man working there doing tastings with a huge attitude. He was of asian descent and completely rude to us. He made us feel like we didn’t belong there because we were the youngest(30 years old) people there. The way that he was talking to the 4 of us, made us feel beneath him so we moved down and was eventually greeted by a younger man that poured us some samples. The young gentleman poured us samples… and that was it. He didn’t say anything to us about what the wines were made of. I bought a souvenir wine glass from him(I like to collect them) and waited 15 minutes to get it. Eventually an older woman came over to us, which I had a feeling, possibly owned the place. She poured us the rest of our wines and actually explained them to us. I asked her about taking pictures by the water(because I saw a rope that said DONOTENTER) and she said that we weren’t allowed to. She also asked how I knew that information… I said, «It’s on your website…» She said that only high paying brides are allowed to see that view and they would be pretty mad if I was allowed to take pictures there… okay. Yup I get it. I came to your winery that you advertise is the only one that has a private beach, I sampled your wines, bought a glass and wanted to take a few pictures… the wines really aren’t that good at all and your service was horrendous compared to other family owned wineries. Don’t ever visit this winery… very pretentious atmosphere… ironically in a barn!

Skip it and do yourself a favor! We knew from walking in and out initial conversation with the employee that we should have just continued through the entry and out the porch and back down the steps and back to the car! BUTWEDIDN’T! We felt like we were there, so we should try it out. The pours were skimpy and on top of that, as someone else noted-I dumped quite a few. I typically do not do that but the wine just was not good. The man pouring for us was interesting to say the least. One wine is called the Cacklin’ Rose and he called it the Cracklin’ Rose, HUH?! One of the guys in our group called him out on it because we thought maybe there was an error on the handout-nope! He confirmed that he said it wrong. We are happy we went because we didn’t know how it was. But we now know that we never need to go back! This to me is a classic example of what you see so often in any wine region. Someone can buy a plot of land and throw up a winery because everyone driving through will likely stop to check it out. Though they may not get many repeat customers, there are enough newbies to the area that they will stay in business. If you decide to find out for yourself, here is some info for you. Groups of 6 or more need a reservation. If you are a group of 6 or more, you also get to try all of the wines(7, I think?) for $ 10/person.

Quack I love a place that has wildlife roaming around and as soon as we pulled into the old Field Vineyards, we were greeted by some ducks waddling around the property… perfect. The place is essentially a working farm that also makes wine — so the door to the tasting room is not as clearly marked as you would think — but we found our way in to what reminded me of a small barn or large farm shed type building. There was a wood burning stove and an old hound laying 2 feet in front of it keeping warm. Very rustic. Toss in the local swan or goose or whatever that thing was that has staked out the back deck and you have yourself a nice day in the country. The wines are pretty good as well and the owner is proud of her wares — we gave the flights a shot and ended up with one of the bottles to go. I think the wines have a way to go but not as bad as some of the other places out there. Also note: there is no bathroom– there is a porta-potty and for a dude this is no big deal, but some of you ladies may not quite enjoy that — especially in the winter. Overall a good place — and I will try them again in the summer. Parking in front.
