Burgers and stuff like that. No healthy options, but a great Texan atmosphere.

This used to be one of my favorites. We went before the dinner rush and waited for our waitress for over twenty minutes and our waitress never showed. I even went in and asked for her, but still nothing. I was very disappointed since this was our first venture out to eat since having our youngest. When you have three kids, including a two year old and an 8 month old, it helps to be noticed. It also helps to have your kid’s drinks come in child cups.

I went in with skepticism based on other reviews but this place wow’ed me. The coldest beer I have ever had — honestly. Literally slushy!!! The burger was out of this world good — so good my wife has already suggested going back there. The chicken fried steak is in house tenderized, breaded and fried — awesome. The chicken fingers my daughter had were also prepared in house — no frozen nuggets here. Our service was spot on and we couldn’t have asked for better. This place is a bit off our beaten path but well worth the drive. My daughter loved being able to run around on the play-scape!!! Did I mention the Cold Beer!!! D.

We have visited this place a few times and have enjoyed every meal. They have all been served hot and delicious. We’ve ordered frog legs, burgers, chicken fried steak, etc and there isn’t anything we don’t like. I didn’t give five stars only because I haven’t tried their desserts but I have heard they are good.

We went there a couple of months ago with our small quiet dog and were told they were pet friendly on the patio. The menu was minimal but the service was good and the food was fine but nothing special. Since they were pet friendly we returned yesterday and were seated and served our drinks. Then our waitress(Lisa I believe) showed up and loudly informed us that animals were not allowed around food and she would not serve us. We informed her that we had been there before and were told pets were ok. She said someone hadn’t followed the rules an we must leave. A few minutes later I called the café to confirm the rules and was told that they were previously pet friendly but changed since some pets bothered the CHICKENS in the coop adjoining the patio. So dirty free range chickens are ok around the food but not domesticated pets?

This is the place to go for an inexpensive hot lunch! We often have a chicken fried steak for dinner. Our grand daughter loves playing outside on the play set.

This place has its pros and cons. Let’s start with the pros. There was no wait to be seated, the food is fairly priced, the staff are all friendly, and the Texas toast is delicious. Now the cons; my sides were all one step above cold, which is barely warm. As someone that loves Mac and cheese, I just had to try the jalapeño Mac and cheese, but to my disappointment it was of a runny consistency, barely warm, flavorless and bland. Overall, I think the food definitely has potential, but it needs to be kept fresh. No one wants a side that is barely warm.

I have been coming here for years and my food is always excellent. Go hungry, because the quantity is massive. The chop steak is my favorite, but the chicken fried steak is pretty good, too. The jalapeño mac n cheese is incredible. Did I mention how good their chocolate cream pie is? This is an excellent family restaurant with a great Texas atmosphere. The staff is always friendly. If you are not lucky enough to come from Spring Branch, it is worth the drive from San Antonio.

Got a to go order my burger is missing all the stuff I ordered on it except for the bacon. Yah not again unless I’m forced to go there I’m angry, I even paid for the extra stuff on my burger and stuff that I asked for taken off the burger was left on so I scrapped mustard off and there were still onions on it so I individually picked those off. I’m not getting paid to build burgers so maybe they should get the orders right or just don’t have take out! Take out is a hit or miss and they are missing it you can not get take out wrong especially in the hill country when people live 20 min away and can’t take back their wrong orders forced to suffer and eat a $ 12 burger or waste $ 12 in gas to drive back. So realistically I just wasted around $ 30 to get something I didn’t ask for. I’m giving them 1.5 stars just because the tater tots were good thats it.

So we stopped here on our way fishing starving. The place was packed so we waited about 15 mins to be seated outside. Then we waited about 20 mins to put in our order after someone forgot to tell the waitress we were seated outside. so at this point I would have given them 2 stars because they have a playground and anything with a playground gets extra points from me. Finally out waitress arrives apologetic and asks if we would like some chips and salsa on the house. absolutely we would. This is where they went to a 3 salsa was so very tasty and spicy. I ordered chicken strips because I wanted to try the jalapeño mac and cheese and fried okra. Gravy was very creamy and lots of flavor, mac and cheese was spicy and like a Velveeta type cheese again not dissapointed, okra I love okra, chicken strip are chicken strips. My husband ordered a burger and oh the cheese he says a 5 star hamburger and exactly how he ordered it plus a little jalapeño on top. My daughter got a kids grilled cheese and fries and she ate half so it must have been tasty. So moral to the story you can change a frown upside down with just some good good. We left with a full tummy and a smile. We will be back. I wish i could remember teh name of our waitress because she was wonderful and much of the reason we will be back.

Their burgers are the best, big, but super good. Usually there’s a wait. The service is always great! A must eat when in Spring Branch/Bulverde.

I will never return. We got there are 5pm on a Sunday. Not really busy considering there was nobody waiting outside for a table. We were standing in the sign that says«Wait to be seated» for about 5 minutes. Several of the employees saw us just standing there and didn’t say anything… Eventually we figured out we needed to walk 3 steps to the left and write down our name at the«to go» counter. We waited another 5 minutes and then they said we could now go outside, as we had requested. Nobody took us outside, we sort of had to walk to what seemed to be the door that leads to the outside and we found a table, eventually the waitress found us. Not sure at this point what the purpose of «wait to be seated» sign was other than waste 10 minutes of our life. They took our drink orders and brought them back within minutes. 13 minutes after receiving our drinks we had still not heard back from the waitress to get out orders. We got up and left. Nobody apologized. Obviously, they don’t give a crap about who goes there to eat.

I don’t typically write reviews but this place is ANABSOLUTELYMUSTTRY. Menu filled with something for everyone in our family… South Texas home-cooking favorites, including chicken-fried steak, delicious shrimp(caught in waters near Rockport,) enchiladas and big burgers — and some unexpected items, such as frog legs and a crisp order of wings. we tried dessert last time we were here and the pie is worth a try!

This place has good solid home cooking, kind of a mom and pop place. Very unique with the hundreds of deer antlers mounted prongs down. If you are a Bambi love be aware. Waitstaff is attentive to your needs. I had beef liver and onions and my date had chicken fried chicken. The liver was tender and sliced thin. 2 very good sized pieces with what I think was too many onions. Ate all the liver and pushed away about half the onions. Sides were good mashed potatoes and green beans cooked with flavorful ham. Tea was fresh and good. Beware the large variety of desserts, they had plenty but we were too stuffed to even try. I will be going back.

Sooooo goooood. The place stays busy and sometimes there can be a wait to get a seat. On the upside this staff turns over tables quickly. Having said that I’ve eaten here twice and both times have been delicious. The food is fresh made and the staff is friendly 4⁄5. Tonight I went to eat with a few people. Between the lot of us we had the fried mushrooms for an appetizer(very good) and large chicken tenders and a large chicken fried steak as main dishes. With the main dishes you get a small side salad and two sides. For sides we chose the French fries(highly recommended), fried okra(standard but good), jalapeño Mac and cheese(loved it and it has a little kick). Just a great comfort meal with large portions and good prices. Bottles of beer and a bunch of antlers, can’t wait to go back. No room for dessert but it looked amazing.

2.9STARS! They have only two plates worth trying; burgers and chicken fried steak. Here’s the deal. They waitress recommended these two plates because that’s all they really have. The menu is tiny in selection and unless you want fried frog legs you might just want to skip this place. It’s a local joint for Bulverde and it’s the best they’ve got so be ready. The chicken fried steak was slightly tough, not cutable with a fork but easily with a knife. The batter was a bread crumb mix that was just not enjoyable on the palette. It stuck and became somewhat mushy and hard to digest. It didn’t melt in your mouth is what I’m getting at. The green beans were out of this world though. They did arrive slightly cold though. The flavor and cuts of bacon left me wanting more. The mashed potatoes were also good in flavor. The salsa seemed homemade and packed some heat. I’d give it 3.5 stars. It comes served in a nifty glass jar. The queso is basic. Not quite out of a can but not much better in flavor, consistency or color. Enjoy!

First time diner — The setting is rustic, warm and inviting. There were lots of families and locals this Saturday night. We were served by an excellent waiter, Lisa. I chose the sirloin steak $ 14.99 that included two sides, and came with a salad, which was nothing more than the tail end of a bag of iceberg lettuce, carrots and cabbage that you buy at the grocery store. The blue cheese dressing was fairly good. I chose«fresh» green beans and mashed potatoes as my sides. It didn’t take but a few minutes for our food to arrive. I didn’t know you could grill a steak that fast. The«fresh» green beans were cold, horribly over cooked, and extremely soggy. The mashed potatoes tasted like the flakes from a box, not fresh. I sent my steak back because it was nearly cold, although it had good flavor. This restaurant has all the right elements for being five stars, but it’s gotten away from what makes a good restaurant great — consistent, FRESH ingredients cooked TOORDER.

Took my son here to lunch today. Cute little diner in Spring Branch… used to be on 281, but they moved down Hwy 46 a few years ago. We got here early and was seated quickly. I decided on a Chicken Fried Steak with Fried Okra and Jalapeño Mac n Cheese, while my son ordered Chicken Strips with Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes. Both entrees came with a salad, but the term salad should be used loosely. The ‘salad’ was simply a bowl of iceburg lettuce. Our entrees came out pretty quickly. The meats were very delicious. Both were breaded expertly and had just the right amount of cream gravy with it. The sides, however, were hit and miss… The mashed potatoes were real potatoes, but somewhat dry. The green beans were fresh, but had bacon bits rather than actual bacon on them. The mac n cheese was horrible! It tasted like it came out of a box and there was no hint of jalapeño anywhere. The fried okra was ok, kinda tough, but with a good flavor. All in all, this is a good place to stop in an area that is lacking in restaurants. However, I would not go out of my way to eat here.
