sad to report that you can no longer get any cakes or bakes, whether they be cold or hot. this establishment is open… not!

If you want an eggless cake that you don’t want to spit out of your mouth, here’s your place. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what exactly a cake from a place that sells Indian food would be like but was pleasantly surprised. Not mind blowing amazing but certainly better than«okay» cakes. The chocolate cake and mango cake are pretty good but the pineapple cake is just«meh» — it’s more the frosting that’s pineapple than the cake. Definitely a good place to swing by for a small snack(chaat or samosa) and for a super casual lunch or dinner. Food is good, good enough for me to eat again if I’m in the area and want Indian food, service is friendly but the waiters take too long to come to the table to fill up your water and take your order — at least they bring out the food hot, annnnd it’s cheap! Cheap, good, Indian food with a large selection of cakes to chose from or you can just go with a traditional Indian dessert too — whatever floats your boat.)

4⁄5 stars. This is one of the best places to eat Indian food, nice and clean. The service is very friendly and caters to all needs of the customers. They have some of the most amazing pastries. The Indian Lunch Buffet is one of the best food all around. I have seen the place just get better every single time I visit. I would recommend this place to anyone planning to go for a family lunch /dinner or enjoy some nice Indian Masala Chai with some snacks and pastries. 4⁄5 stars, the bathroom could use a little more attention.

Okay people, I love good food, and I appreciate those who can master it. This is an Indian restaurant with a French Bakery. Their authentic cakes are amazing and come in exotic flavors. They are very light with a tiramisu style consistency, and one slice will leave you with a satisfied sweet tooth. I’ve never enjoyed such a refreshing menu of desserts before. There is also an array of different flavors of mousse available, they were very delicious. As for the South Asian lunch and dinner items, I was not disappointed. I am a broke med student who craves my mom’s Indian cooking from time to time while in school. I actually buy containers of the curries from this restaurant to go, freeze them, and have them to satisfy those cravings, and it surpasses my expectations every time. I don’t like paneer very much, but I could eat their shahi paneer every day. Prices are great, staff is lovely and down to earth, and they have tandoori chicken paninis. Love.

This place is good. It’s Indian food, buffet-style and inexpensive. I’ve been here a handful of times and had great food and great service every time(for the amount of service you’d get at a buffet). Everyone who works there is nice with a good attitude and quick to serve. I’ve been trying a lot of Indian food recently for an upcoming family wedding, so I thought I’d write a review on how good the food is here. The butter chicken is excellent and has lots of flavor and the sauce isn’t too watery or thick, rather just right. The tandoori chicken is amazing with the meat cooked almost to perfection and falling off the bone. I topped it off with tasty chickpeas and had great, flavorful meals. The Naan is also always great here — fresh, soft and poofy. The quality of the food surpasses most Indian restaurants within a 30 mile radius. For dessert, I”ve tried their Khir(spelling?) and was pleasantly surprised, although I like the sauce to be a little thicker. I didn’t get to try any of the other delicious desserts, like their gulab jamun, but I’m sure they’re just as delicious as the rest of the food they prepare. Depending on the day, there are also dishes with different meats(goat, for example), and several yummy vegetable dishes for vegetarians.

Normally you wouldn’t think an Indian buffet in a bakery would lead to anything good. But, in the case of Hot Bakes and Cakes, you’d be wrong. Hot Bakes’ buffet is yum-o. The naan comes out hot and buttery. The butter chicken is a little less buttery/rich than I’ve had before, but depending on your tastes, that might be a good thing. The eggplant dish(I really should have paid attention to the names) had a surprising amount of spice to it. The paneer dish with the orangish sauce was delicious — a little sweet even. There was a lentil dish that was also quite yummy. The food isn’t the best you’ll ever eat, but it is really good — and cheap(at least the lunch buffet)! Also, the staff is really warm and welcoming. They definitely want you to have a good experience. I also tried the strawberry cake from the dessert counter(which had many yummy looking treats). The cake and whipped frosting are really light and delicious. Just the right amount of flavor/sweetness/texture after loading up at a buffet. This place will definitely be added to my lunch rotation.

Walk-in pastry shop or sit-down Indian café. Disarmingly friendly staff. Deee-licious Indian food for cheap!

Who would’ve thought that you could combine a French bakery and a South Indian restaurant? Well, that just sounds crazy. Yet, no matter how ludicrous this notion seems, they might be able to pull it off. I picked up some savory pastries last night but saved them for breakfast this morning. The chicken curry puff($ 1.99) was extremely flaky despite having been in the fridge overnight(I recommend baking it at 350°F for 5 minutes). And the chicken tikka plait($ 2.99), which was a braided bread topped with savory chicken, was still soft and chewy. Normally, you think of Indian bread being just naan(a flat bread), but Hot Bakes n Cakes certainly proves that it’s possible to fuse the the Indian palate with other ethnic cuisines. I’m impressed so much that I’m going back to get more for lunch. [Original Visit: April 10, 2009 at 8:30PM]
