This is a newer location and you can tell as the store looks very clean with lots of space. This is not my typical Barnes & Noble location that I go to, but every time I’ve gone here they have had the books I’m looking for either in-stock or the associates have offered to order the books in store for me. The staff is very friendly. I ordered a book online for store pickup and the next day the book was ready for pickup. I highly recommend coming here for all your book needs.

So few book stores nowadays. I’m grateful the for the few that are left, like this one. When I walk through the door, I’m immediately back in middle school, headed straight for the music section at the back of the store to buy the latest Broadway soundtrack… because I’m a theatre nerd. This Barnes and Noble is pretty huge! Definitely bigger than the other location in STL. There are plenty of nooks with comfy seats where you can curl up with a book and spend a couple hours! There’s a Starbuck’s inside that also serves Cheesecake Factory cheesecake. That’s a major win as far as I’m concerned! I bought one of my husband’s birthday presents here about a month ago. I needed some help decided which direction to go and the gentleman working in the back around movies and soundtracks was very helpful and very friendly.

This is a nice spot to just chill out for a bit especially if you’re tired of the mall environment. Yes, it’s inside the West County Mall but that in a way makes it very convenient. It’s right in the middle of the mall and on top of the Restaurant Village which makes it a really good spot for a bathroom break and also as a sit down at the coffee shop and drink or munch on something break. The Starbucks in here can be insanely busy though and there always doesn’t seem to be enough seating. Now how can I go one paragraph about a bookstore and not really talk about the books?! Well, the thing is I don’t really buy books that much nowadays because I am a huge patron of the big olé public library which I am very proud of. I find that books have become so much more accessible that I don’t really need to buy them anymore. Not to mention that I feel like books have become so overpriced these days especially the actual paper copies. I do like to check out Barnes & Noble and see what they have to offer from time to time. Also, browsing there is a good way to find out new releases, bestsellers etc. So, like I said, it’s a great spot to hang out and if you really need a paper copy of a book then this is the right place.

If you’ve been in one Barnes & Noble(and if you haven’t, they’re just a chain of bookstores), you’ve pretty much been in them all, so here are just a few things that stand out. This location has as a mini-Starbucks, but it’s never very busy(perhaps because there’s another Starbucks kiosk in the mall); the employees spend most of their time talking to each other about going drinking/gossiping about each others’ love lives… which is amusing to listen to, actually, if you are the type who likes people watching. Excellent magazine selection to browse while you drink the expensive coffee you bought to assuage your guilt over reading without buying. I’ve become one of those people. I’m ashamed by it, but is it just me or have magazines gotten crazy expensive? The employees are always super helpful, even when they are busy.

Since the rise of the Internet, Amazon and e-books, my high opinions of Barnes & Noble have dropped lower and lower. I’m sorry B&N, but you’re too expensive and inconvenient nowadays. When I can hop on Amazon(or a Kindle), find the book for half the price or less than what you’re offering and get it instantly or delivered to my door in less than a week, it’s kinda hard to compete with that. Now I love going to a bookstore and browsing for hours without actually purchasing anything — I’m a pro and have wiled away many an hour in just such a pleasant fashion, but when I’m on a mission to purchase a book(and I already know what I want), Barnes & Noble’s not my first thought. Not only do they require you to buy a membership card for $ 25 a year in order to get an extra discount of 10% at purchase, but they now charge a «stocking fee» if you purchase a book in store instead of online. I learned this in a very rude fashion when I wanted to purchase a book before Christmas but didn’t have time to have it shipped to me. I looked online, saw that it wouldn’t arrive from Amazon if I ordered it then, and check on B& , the price online for the book was about the same as Amazon with the«New Book» discount and even better I could reserve it at my local store for pickup within the hour. Swell! I thought. However, when I arrived to pick up said book, the cashier told me I could only get the online discount if I bought the book online and shipped it to myself — the in-store purchase price jumped up another $ 10 for a «shelving fee.» HUH??? That’s a lovely surprise, isn’t it? I proceeded to buy the book, simultaneously bought it online for half of what I paid at the store, and switched the books out once the online-ordered one arrived a few days later, and took back the original. Think you can screw me out of an extra $ 15 B&N? Ha! Think again. So, that’s my latest encounter with brick and mortar bookstores, and that’s why my opinion of them continues to dive. You’d better get more competitive or prepare to go the way of Border’s, Barnes & Noble — ’cause you’re certainly not earning any friends in the real world.

This place is cool! Spacious & quiet. I come here when I need to go to the mall for shopping, to peruse new books & for my weekly trashy reading. On Sundays & on weekdays, it’s quiet & there’s plenty of seating & parking. Again, the dessert selection is not very vegan friendly like other Barnes & Nobles.

Clean, well organized store. Friendly sales staff. Clearly Amazon is going to be 25−50% cheaper, but if you’re in a hurry and need something today they have a great selection.
