My family has hosted many functions at Café DeMenil. My rehearsal dinner, luncheons after funerals as well as brunch on Easter and dinner on Valentines Day. I have found their service and food to be fantastic, in fact the food at the rehearsal dinner was far better than the food at my wedding. All of my guests were very pleased with the food(the Portobello is terrific for vegetarians!) and the service. The location is charming, set in the Carriage House of the historic DeMenil mansion and a wonderful place to host any event. I cannot recommend it enough.

We came here for lunch. First thing I noticed is that the menu is short. This is always a good sign: it means a restaurant only cooks what it cooks well. Second thing I noticed is that the crabcake I ordered was huge. Very filling, and it came with a Demenil Salad, which I really liked. Third thing I noticed is that my bill was not very large. A very pleasing lunch experience in a place tucked away next to a historic mansion, with attentive servers and an owner who stops by to see how things are going. A 5-star lunch.

A beautiful wedding venue in the Benton Park neighborhood of St. Louis-right next door; the Mansion. This is old St. Louis at it’s best. Quaint, cobble stoned with a lovely outdoor garden area. It was a bit tight with the large number of friends and family in attendance but that made it all the more intimate. Some of the guests were seated in the café and that made for a separation from the main event. Good if you have a lot of older guests that want to stay away from the heat and loud music but I was all about the dancing, music and noise. Our party had a fabulous time, got to meet some new/old relatives and find out how St. Louis throws a party! Food was better than adequate-not bad for serving 100+ guests.

So right next to the Chatillon-DeMenil Mansion is Caf DeMenil, a nice place to get lunch if you ever find yourself in the neighborhood. Of course I was in the neighborhood at the time as I had just visited the Chatillon-DeMenil Mansion and was starting to feel the ping of hunger starting, so instead of searching for a place to eat, I just walked over to what once was the carriage house, which has now been turned into the Caf DeMenil. Caf DeMenil is a nice lunch place as it is only open for lunch. The rest of the time, for the evening it is reserved for private functions. The food that they have is nice and tasty and it is not to expensive or anything. I had a nice veggie wrap that settled my hunger needs. The veggie wrap and a nice taste to it with the sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach, and olives, of course it also had feta cheese, which basically the whole reason I chose it for lunch. Caf DeMenil is a nice place to stop by for lunch.
