Delmar Media Group was hired to do school pictures at my childrens’ school. The quality of the pictures varied wildly, but all of the pictures made my children look as if they were underage workers at a PR firm. My son had 20 pictures, most of which were cute and useful. My daughter had only 15, almost all of which were«arty» and had her head cut off or focused on her hands instead of her face. They asked the children to do things like stick out their tongues or clap their hands. Some students had over 40 pictures. When I asked the owner why there was such wild variation, he replied that it all depended on the child’s willingness to «work with the photographer.» My children are 6 and 7 and are not professional models. I do not think they should be expected to «work with a photographer» in order to get a decent school picture. The worst thing about the company though was the exorbitant prices they charged for school pictures. The smallest package started at $ 50, and individual 5×7 pictures cost over $ 11 each. My children attend a free charter school, not a fancy private school, so I don’t know how most of the parents will be able to afford a picture of their children this year.
