I’ve lived a quarter mile from this place for 2 years and had no idea it existed until I tried Unilocaling the nearest liquor store recently. There’s some pretty clear reasons why I had never heard of the place, and why I’m likely to never return. The signage on the place is miserable. It sits on the corner of a block in a small spot, and you could easily drive past and never notice it. My biggest beef with this place is that it’s FILTHY! From the previous reviewers I expected some unorganization, but it’s much worse than that. I picked up some bottles of wine and they were covered with a thick layer of dust/grime. Definitely nothing you could walk into a party with without washing the bottle first(and who wants to do that?!) There are literally boxes scattered everywhere that makes it impossible to navigate the store or see half the shelves. Do they honestly not have a storeroom? Possibly the weirdest thing I saw were bottles of mixers thrown onto their sides on a shelf. Where they even for sale? No clue. The woman working just stared at me when I walked in. No hello or welcome. Gave me a pretty weird vibe. tl;dr — I’ve been in nicer liquor store in real shady areas of town.

Aw, come on. This place is as ‘south city’ as you get. Yes, it’s stuffed to the brim. And could use a good cleaning. But you WILL find just about anything you’re looking for and the prices are cheap. Tip: the owner, Gary, is amiable and a great resource for neighborhood recommendations, from painters, plumbers, to the latest delivery shop. Nothing scary here. Judging from the vintage neon signage out front, they’ve been there forever. Must be doing something right.

Hampton House of Liquors is a small, privately owned, dusty little liquor store located in St. Louis Hills. I can see why people might get turned off. The small store is absolutely STUFFED with liquor and the owner has no merchandising sense. That said, you can get absolutely ANYTHING you need here and they will haggle with you for large orders. In other words, if you are planning a party, it’s definitely worth a stop. They are negotiable on price if they can do it, they will. Also, these guys carry hard to find beer brands.

Great little neighborhood liquor store. As stated by Kelly B, the store has no merchandising sense, but the inventory is unbelievable and they know where everything is located. I got turned on to this place a few years ago when I was searching for the new Espresso Vodka by Van Gogh. None of the major booze retailers had it, but would order it and I’d have to wait several days. HHL had it in stock and gave me instant gratification. They may be small, cluttered and a little dusty, but they are cutting edge and have always provided me with good service and good prices. CJ H. get serious, when you are buying booze at a liquor store at 10:30 am with the wino’s you kinda gotta expect bad behavior. Unfortunately when you shop at Arena or Randall’s you’ll see the same thing and the owners are helpless. It’s sad, but true. Next time call the police and file a complaint of a flasher.

Creepy and weird as hell. The last time I went here no one was working and then some sraggly biker looking dude finally came out from the back room smoking and asked if I needed something. Its like, uh yeah Im in a liquor store so I probably need to buy this beer in my hand. About half the beers in this place are not the current label and they cut the 12 pack boxes in half to sell modified 6 packs, not sure your even supposed to do that. When you got Macklind Ave Deli less than a mile away there is no reason to step foot in this place. Lets put it this way, I would never let my wife go here alone.

Although this place has a pretty good selection and the prices don’t seem too bad, this place is kinda gross, for lack of a better term. The guys behind the counter always seem to be smoking, and when you factor in the small size of the place, you can bet that you’ll leave smelling like smoke. Also, on SEPARATE occasions, I’ve been in this place and have noticed both a half-eaten Subway sandwich sitting on the counter and a plate of raw hamburger patties INONEOFTHEBEERFRIDGES. Who does that?! Someone who doesn’t give a crap about running a decent business, I suppose. Additionally, there are empty boxes everywhere and everything just feels dirty, as if that bottle of Chambord hasn’t been dusted off since it was stacked on the shelf back in ’97. As much as I enjoy supporting all of the great businesses of South St. Louis city, this place just gives me the creeps.

Being a town where you can get liquor and beer anywhere from the grocery store to the Quick Trip on the corner, St. Louisans aren’t really the liquor store types. But what about when you need a keg for a party? Or when you are looking for something a little bit less ordinary? Hampton House of Liquors, a little divey hole in the wall liquor store, is totally worth checking out. They do kegs in many flavors(is considered a flavor??? I’m not sure…) and they have it ready for you right on time. They also stock a ton of different beers in the store: everything from foreign to micro-brewery beers. Upping the rating to Four Stars for being easy to find, always having parking right in front, and not charging double for ciggs like most liquor stores.
