We actually had the food truck come to work. Everyone loved it. I can’t remember what I had at the moment but it was good.

Solid solid place for lunch! Decent enough Mexican-ish food. Had Cochina Pibil Torta. The boys had beans and rice. Sandwich was great, nicely seasoned pork from a citrusy marinade, on top of a bean spread that had a refried like consistency, topped with pickled onions and Mexican crema. Came with corn chips, and some nice really hot, kind of herbaceous salsa. Sandwich had kind of a pulled pork like consistency, my sons bean and rice were good, I wouldn’t rave too much about them, but decent. Black beans and herbed rice, topped with cheese and a little cilantro. All this in and of itself is 4 stars, but the fifth star is for being a privately run food business serving good tasty food, in a fucking desert of literally nothing but fast food and chain places in the Bowles Ave. area. Seriously, if you go to Cracker Barrel and not here for lunch. you only have you self to blame.

If you find yourself here looking for a upscale dining experience you will be disappointed. This is literally a hole in the wall located in a space attached to the ass end of a gas station in South County. That said — they are banging out some good food and may well wind up on DDD someday. I looked over their menu just to the point of discovering that they offer tortas. Rare is the day when I pass up a torta if I see one on the menu. This was not a rare day — this was a torta day. Yay! I chose the chicken mole torta. It came with a side of chips and pico. I asked if the pico had jalapenos in it and the answer was yes… but they would gladly whip up some for me from scratch since I can’t eat those little bastards. The product that they produced as a substitute was an artfully made cup of finely diced tomatoes and onions with a generous amount of fresh cilantro. Hell yeah! A+ for the accommodation. My torta was good but it was possibly more of a Mexican hoagie than a torta. I liked the mole, the chicken was cooked perfectly, there could have been more cheese and less onions. Sesame seeds on top of it all were a bit odd. Not bad, just odd in that the sesame taste got lost with all of the other strong flavors. The bread was not what I generally see with a torta but was good — it just lacked that slight sweetness and distinctive football shape that makes a true torta a bit interesting to eat. I will certainly be going back but think the shrimp tacos will be my next meal there. Also notable — the women running the place are extremely friendly and seem to be having a blast doing what they are doing. Its always nice to go somewhere that the staff is upbeat and excited about the food they are putting out.

Another food truck sighting at Boeing. Well, technically Flight Safety, but we’re all friends, right?! Windows were scheduled to open by 11, so you better believe we were there at opening and first in line after the insane line that formed two weeks previous for Sarah’s Meltdown! I ordered the a Roasted Chicken taco, Barbacoa taco, and a side of guacamole. I found the guacamole a little bland but not being a guac connoisseur, perhaps I am just naïve. The tacos are FANTASTIC! Fresh and tasty. I could have eaten a dozen of them if I allowed myself. The Barbacoa was my favorite — perfectly balanced and pairs well with a fresh summer day. It truly makes it hard to go back into work. Good thing they didn’t have margaritas… My co-workers also raved for the Diablo Shrimp taco. I’ll take their words for it. I’m a spice weenie! The line moves very quickly, so don’t be overwhelmed. Join in! Can’t wait to see them again!

Hmm looks like Hot Aztec hasn’t been entered into Unilocal yet, so here’s my entry for it and review! I spotted the pinkish truck yesterday in front of the SLU Pius Library and decided to stop because I was curious. I saw they had a variety of tacos on the menu, and while they all sounded good, the tortilla soup is what stood out to me the most. I looove me some tortilla soup. I double-checked to make sure it wasn’t going to be ass-kickingly spicy or anything and when the nice & helpful workers in the truck informed me it wasn’t, I decided to take the plunge. I got a side order of tortilla chips and guacamole. The soup was divine! Super delicious and flavorful without the need to be spicy. Excellent. The chips were good too, but it’s kind of hard to mess up chips, IMHO. The guacamole was TERRIBLE. Omg, I don’t think I’ve ever eaten such bland guac in my life. Even grocery store pre-packaged guacamole kicks this stuff out of the water. Please, Hot Aztec, if you are reading this, pleeease do something about your guacamole. It’s just awful. Add some garlic and lemon/lime juice to it… or maybe some finely diced tomatoes. Something. Anything. Please. Other then the miss with the guacamole, I really liked this truck and I might get some tacos next time provided they aren’t too spicy!
