I was reading the reviews of this place where people are raving about their customer service and I was scratching my head wondering if they were talking about the same place. Kirkwood Building Materials has the WORST customer service if any business I frequent. They seem to care less about customers. No one is waiting around to help you. They always treat me like some contractor barely worthy if their time! I needed help picking out the right mulch. They did not lift a finger. I asked when they could deliver, maybe today? They looked at me like I had two heads. They don’t deliver on Sunday and they say you have to be there for delivery. They act like they are the only game in town and that me the customer is never right or even educated. Maybe they hate their jobs but why make the customer feel uncomfortable. The fat ass ‘helping’ me at the counter just sat there sipping his soda and offering snide comments. If their products weren’t so good i would shop elsewhere. This is the kind of place I HATE giving my money to!!!

This place is ginormous. If you’ve been buying your mulch/aggregate at Lowe’s or Home Depot you’ve been getting screwed. Give your friend that owns a truck $ 20 bucks to borrow it… head here and save tons of $.

Lowe’s used to be the primary place where I would get my stone edging. I had gotten stone edging before at Kirkwood Material Supply, & now it’s pretty much the only place that is reliable. Lowe’s used to carry the stone edging that I bought before. Kirkwood Material Supply pretty much has the same stuff year after year in terms of stone edging that is. That’s what I love about this place. Always get extra cuz you may never know if you’ll need it. Great variety & great service. There isn’t any out there stone colors(like hot pink or blue). The prices are awesome. I spent about $ 118 on about 248 pounds of stone edging(roughly about 50 cents a pound) or so. That included the $ 24 fee to cut the stone($ 6 a stone). Bring tarps if you don’t get your order delivered. If you don’t bring tarps, they provide cardboard to keep your car interior safe. This location has a small nursery from what I recall.

I had this place bookmarked because I frequent places like this for my gardening needs and the other reviews made it sounds awesome. I finally had a chance to go and realized that it’s true: Kirkwood Material Supply has THEBEST customer service of any place in its class. It’s down a dead end road and I didn’t even know it was there til I found it using GPS. I pulled in and got out, and immediately someone was there to ask me if I needed help. At the time, I was looking at the different types of mulch. They showed me what they had and I picked out what I wanted. They didn’t even let me pull my car up — they got a forklift and brought me the stuff directly to my car! After experiencing a lack of assistance at St. Louis Composting a few weeks before, I was really excited that I didn’t have to load my own bags(after all, I had to UNLOAD them all and it’s tiring!). I went in and paid easily. Looking around, I saw SO many supplies and idaes of landscaping. I loved the koi pond inside. Very cool. I also saw a lot of gardening and lawncare supplies, plants, rocks and more. The selection is awesome! The price is slightly higher than STL composting, but it’s close to home and the customer service made it worth it. I’ll be back! I’m a fan!

A great outdoor/landscaping supply place. KWS carries a wide variety of bulk landscape rock, mulch, soil, brick, pavers etc. If you are searching for unique landscape rock or pavers that your neighbors can’t just pick up from Home Depot or Lowes this is the place. Most of their products are cost competitive with the big box stores, while their selection is tenfold. Most of their loose bulk products are located outside in giant concrete bins, making it convenient to drive your vehicle directly to the bins for loading. I had decided to rebuild/extend a retaining wall in the front yard. KWS staff was very helpful me select matching pavers, selecting adequate back fill, and even loaded my entire order. If you have a small vehicle like I do they will gladly split up your order for multiple pickups.
TIP:If you do not have a truck and are doing a smaller landscape project ask about buying their bulk items in smaller quantities(5gal bucket, washtub, trash can sizes). You will quickly find that these small volume options are significantly cheaper that the 40−50lb bag equivalents at the big box stores! Danielle B’s review describes the great customer service.

Holy crap. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such amazing customer service! From the minute we stepped out of the car, we had someone helping us — and as I was wondering around by myself as someone helped the BF with the different rocks we needed, I got asked by at least 3 people if I needed any help — awesome! And when it was all said and done, we had everything loaded into our SUV for us. They had lots of beautiful flowers — in much better shape than the sad and dying ones at Home Depot — albeit a little more expensive. They also had a great selection of all different kinds of rocks, paving bricks, mulch, compost, dirt, and lumber! If you’re in the mood to do some landscaping and need a little more selection than the big home stores, definitely drive down to Kirkwood and check this place out.
