Disappointing food and service. Waited over an hour for our food to arrive and the place was not busy at all. Also, the food waffle and waffle sandwich that we order were both bland and uninspired. It is nice to have a waffle place in St. Louis, but the quality and service were lackluster.

After enjoying my first time here less than a year ago, I was excited to go back over the weekend for breakfast on the morning of my birthday //Major fail. It took 10 minutes to be greeted by our waitress, 15 to get my mimosa, and getting my food as it was ordered was another 25 minute ordeal. My waffle was advertised and ordered to come topped with shredded potatoes, Daiya cheese, mixed greens, a side of dilly ranch, and I added avocado, as it is offered as an add-on option for an extra $ 1.50. When my meal arrived I was served a waffle with potatoes and melted Daiya, and that is it. 5 minutes later I received the mixed greens that were supposed to go on top, and the side of avocado(that I paid extra for!) that I should have had when my food was first delivered, as that is what I ordered! Then, I noticed I didn’t have the side of dilly ranch either. Ugggggh. Had to send the server’s helper back again… …and had to wait… …again… I do however want to mention that there was a good male bartender that noticed that I was getting antsy and glancing over in the direction of the bar. He came over to address our thirst needs while our server was«occupied». Props to him for being attentive and having enough sense to check on us! I also suspect that the tables and/or floors are washed with dirty rags/dirty water because I kept getting whiffs of what resembled the smell of a wet dog. Altogether, tho, I sadly had a very unappetizing experience. Disappointed as a vegan, because this was one of the only places I know of that serve vegan breakfast options. If I owned this place I would give start giving a sh*t about making some changes around there!

Great restaurant!!! A lot of food options including gluten free and vegan. And the food is delicious. I had the Granny Fanny waffles and they were the best. Service was outstanding! The décor is very original and eclectic. There are bowling and basketball machines available for bored guests. I loved the Sunday morning cartoons on the big screen tv’s. I will definitely add this to my list restaurants to visit when traveling to St. Louis.

So here’s the deal. Nothing ever sounds better than waffles on a Sunday morning. I ordered the violet beauregarde with sweet potato waffles x2 and they said the wait would be 30 minutes so I arrived an hour later(see past post for reason). Food was ready, I was acknowledged fast. My issue is this. Our waffles weren’t sweet potato, idk what they were. They were also burnt. Sure, I should’ve checked before I drove all the way home but I didn’t. I’m not going to put any blame on the wait staff because they seem to be doing their job.

Forget all the fancy brunch places around town, if you want breakfast and a good time come here. They have so many different options and the best part is that it’s served on a waffle. Whether it’s fruit, eggs, or pulled pork it’s all on a waffle. They have something for everyone. Not only is the food menu great but the drink menu is amazing as well. They have the tradition mimosas or bloody Mary’s if you are wanting to try one of their in house specials everything is great to try. The atmosphere inside the restaurant can not be matched. A large drop down projector screen that is plan Sunday morning cartoons, different pieces of art work hanging on the wall and the wall of arcade games. Pinball, pop shot, and ski ball all are at your disposal to play before, during or after your meal. The tables and chairs are something you would find at a thrift store but it just adds more character to this place. Although I haven’t tried everything on the menu, I’m positive you can not go wrong with whatever you order. Take a chance and get chili or pulled pork on your waffle. This is a must try place!

Horrible service — avoid on weekends if at all possible. There are some great vegan options which sounded delicious, but we didn’t get to find out because we had been waiting for two hours with no updates from our waitress and no refills. There are far better options in the city for vegan brunch.

Worst service I have ever experienced. First off the place is extremely dirty. We placed our order and waited for a good half hour. After noticing people eating who had arrived much later than us I decided to go inside and speak to our waitress(who hadn’t checked on our table since placing the order a half hour before) we were told we were next in line which is ridiculous because others after us had been served. No apology, no concern. Horrible. Finally after another 20 – 25 minutes, again without seeing our server, my girlfriend went to check on the status of our order. Again told us it would be another 10 minutes and then literally said WE’REMORETHANWELCOMETOLEAVE! No sorry. No apology. Highly advise avoiding this place.

I took my sophomore from Wash U and 3 of her friends here for breakfast. It is a unique and interesting place with mismatched everything… chairs, tables, glasses, mugs, salt shakers… We all ordered waffles of some kind… I had violet Beauregard which have blueberries and blueberry drizzle. The order took a long time to arrive and when it did, the waffles were cold… soggy and cold. American waffles should have a bit of a crisper crust than Belgian ones but I was disappointed. Flavor was good but I expected more from a place with pretty much only waffles being served. Everyone else had the same issue and I was finished my waffles before my daughter’s arrived at the table. I would not go again unless someone else was paying.

Great again! I had the blueberry waffle and waffles fries and a side of chicken. I love their menu, cheap sides and a diverse list of proteins, sauces, cheese and other items. Our waitress, Wally, was awesome, took great care of us. I don’t remember this from before, but they close after brunch, on Sunday at least, at 3. Those waffle fries are great — you wouldn’t think that a less crispy version of the waffle would work as fries, but it totally does. Great visit.

Neither the food nor the service at this place was any good. We tried the vegan slinger and vegan hash. Really small serving and completely flavorless. Also the wait was about 45 minutes. The one star is for décor and concept. Maybe they will fix the food and service.

This review based on my 1 trip to Melt, so take it however you will. Heard a lot of great reviews of Melt so I made a trip over. Excited when I took in the décor — arcade games everywhere. Ordered the bbq brisket waffle. Wow, they really should take this off their menu. Bizarrely sweet sauce and yet the meat is completely flavorless. Let me say that again — devoid of any flavor entirely. The cornmeal waffle it laid upon was gritty, cold and unappetizing. Yikes.

My sister told us how great the food was and invited my family out for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were a party of 8 and the place was not busy as we got there at 9 when they opened. All the waffles were cold and my wife never got her food. My brother in law sent his back since his slinger waffle was ice cold. All they did was put it in the microwave and brought it back out 15 minutes later with over done eggs. This was the worst experience and I will never try this place again. One star is too much for this place.

Waffles with chili + Pac Man + Skeeball = Yes please! This place is awesome! Funky in the best way — the games and decorations really make for great small talk at the table. The waffles are really good. I probably won’t get the one that I got last time, not because it was bad, but because there are so many options and I want to try them all!

Love this place! Perfect 80’s mix playing, fun games to play and great cocktails while you wait(ms pac man and skee ball anyone?), lovely server Odessa, and a waffle for every person in our family! My pick is AVT(sweet potato waffle with avocado salad with tomato — I get regular and not tofu feta and the citrus vinaigrette), wake and bake and a couple new favorites we tried today. Love this place! An STL gem!

Moving to STL from San Francisco in a couple of weeks and we are here visiting. I am a vegan and did a ton of research and was impressed by how many vegan restaurant there are here! I ordered the ALT and it was great! The sweet potato waffle was one of the best I have ever had! We ordered a side of fruit and it was just perfect. The hash browns were great too! Thin slices with a good crunch. Boyfriend had the chicken and waffles and loved it. I had a mimosas that hit the spot. We loved the interior of the café. Super cute with the chalk boards, sofa area, arcade games. We will definitely be regulars!

I come here for the awesome gluten free waffles and the sheer noise of the place. I’ve tried the sweet and savory waffles and nothing disappoints. It’s busy but that is part of the charm. Don’t let the exterior fool you. It’s a hipster kind of place.

Melt has quirky charm, and maybe a fun place to go see creative, juxtaposing of vintage and creative imagination along pinball and skew-ball games while you wait for your waffle to be made. Basically waffles and stuff. Sweet, savory or plain. Again, creative combos though portion wise may be on the smaller side, soooo you might have to order an extra«half» portion if you have a bigger appetite. Family ordered the buffalo chicken on waffle, waffle club and just plain waffle for the kiddie. Good, but wish it was a bit bigger.

Melt is a little confusing to me. If your main deal is waffles, I’m kind of expecting to have one hell of a waffle! I had the apple waffle and while it wasn’t bad, I’ve had way better for cheaper. It’s good to satisfy a sweet tooth(or to sober up which was my goal). The price wasn’t *so* bad though and I did really enjoy their self-serve bottomless Mississippi Mud coffee with choose-your-own kitschy mug! I got out with a bill under $ 25 for an apple waffle, a wake-and-bake, and two bottomless coffees which is reasonable for me. Also my dining companion and I ended up leaving a little earlier than we usually would have because a very loud live band was setting up and live music isn’t our jam. I just wanna eat waffles and drink coffee, not listen to a band play. Maybe not the most appropriate venue? But then again it’s Cherokee St. so… Two stars for the coffee, one star for the waffle. I did have to go to the bar to pay my waiter but it looked like they were a little understaffed which is understandable. All the staff I interacted with were pleasant and helpful. I would go again if on Cherokee and craving breakfast but I wouldn’t go out of my way to revisit.

I had my first experience at Melt yesterday and I had sensory overload! To say that this place is cool, is an understatement. To say that this place is hipster, is an understatement. If you looked up the definition of hipster in the dictionary, a picture of Melt would be listed under the list of «examples of hipster locations.» Melt equals quirk. The menu is fun and quirky, specializing in waffles of all things. There are board games here that guests can play, mitch-matched vintage furniture throughout the dining area, pinball and skee-ball games, and a stage for live entertainment. I saw a spoken word event here yesterday which was neat to see that the restaurant could be used for that type of activity. I had the Wake ‘N’ Bake and a mimosa which were both very good, and not badly priced at all. As for the service, my waitress was not bad, however when I went to the restroom there was no paper towel and I had to tell my waitress, which I thought was strange considering I was the only diner there at the time and it was around 3pm. Also, when I sat down, I was brought a glass of water that had no ice and was lukewarm, not cool at all(figuratively and literally). That was a first. My friend met me there after I arrived and her water had ice so my «no-ice water» isn’t the norm, but still who does that? If it wasn’t for those minor infractions, I would have given Melt a 5⁄5. Melt is definitely an experience. If you are a hipster or a wannabe hipster, or quirky, or cool you should try Melt. It is a restaurant like no other in St. Louis(and possibly the world).

Very unique brunch spot! Between the skeeball and pinball machines to the Bugs Bunny cartoons playing… Kid paradise! Next time we visit, we will be bringing our 2 year old son! No complaints at all about the service, she explained her favorite dishes and made some great recommendations. We ordered the wake’n bake and the waffle hash and bottomless coffee. The coffee was great and the waffles were very unique and tasty. The waffles are a little on the thin and small side, so for hearty eaters, one may not be enough. I probably wouldn’t order the waffle hash again. It was supposed to have hash browns and red onions baked into it, but I really couldn’t taste them. But there are so many menu options, I definitely plan to come back and see if I find a different favorite. My husband did love the wake’n bake. Makes sense that it’s the most popular menu item!

I finally got a chance to come down for brunch. The menu was super easy to read(though just printed on stained paper). Our food came out quick and was delicious. I got a bottomless cup of coffee and was pleased that the carafes were never empty. :-) Our server, Jenna, was super adorable and attentive. The décor is awesome and my son was thoroughly pleased with the cartoons that were projected on the wall.

Melt is an absolutely wonderful place. Not only is the food delicious, but the owners, Ben and Kelly, are two of the most wonderful people I’ve met in a long while. Every time I see them, they’re smiling, EVERYSINGLETIME! My girlfriend and I can honestly say we feel at home in Melt, and with Ben and Kelly. An example of how sweet these two are: not only did they open up Melt on their day off(Memorial Day) to allow my girlfriend and I to have a photoshoot, but Ben brought us food from the rib fest he was at AND made us lattes and bloody Mary’s…QUALITYSERVICE. Jeezy and I feel at home in Melt, and with Ben and Kelly too. Can’t wait to see you both next month :)

I went twice, both on an early weekday evening. On both visits, we were pretty much the only customers, or one of the few people there, so service was fairly good. The server was attentive, and made a lot of recommendations based on our orders. He was a little pushy though, with regards to ordering drinks or desserts.(Pushy may not be the right word, but he seemed to expect us to order drinks/dessert instead of asking if we wanted any) The food isn’t anything extraordinary, but it is quite good. I enjoyed the Bleu Ox, but for those who don’t want a soggy waffle, I would recommend asking for the toppings on the side. I’d also recommend the waffle fries – I was quite skeptical at first, since they’re just waffle pieces rather than potatoes, but it is quite delicious. We got ours with honey mustard, but ended up eating them plain. I would definitely reorder. The milkshakes are good, a little overpriced for the amount you get. As a warning, the milkshakes do not taste like they add any extra sugar or syrup – it will literally just taste like ice cream and milk. The décor, of course, is a little eclectic but welcoming. In addition to the arcade games, there are several board games lying around for you to play with while you wait for your food.

Very poor service. I think our server was Jenna, but her attitude was very unprofessional. We waited almost an hour for our food and our server was inattentive to us during his time. When she finally came with our food, she said, «we only have 6 waffle makers so when there are like 50 ppl out here, it’s pretty crazy.» I would have been fine with even the slightest semblance of empathy, but she couldn’t even be bothered to pretend to be apologetic. Bottomline, her attitude toward us was very off-putting and unacceptable, esp in the service industry. If you don’t like being affable to customers, maybe this job isn’t for you. She never came to check on us and we had to flag her down multiple times to get more water. As for the food, I don’t understand the hype. The waffles lack density and are thin. The toppings are sparse. I will not be back. They should really get some more waffle makers, or make more in advance and keep them hot! Our food was slightly warmer than room temp, but not hot.

Melt cannot easily be described. Eclectic, eccentric, cozy, and the epitome of a Cherokee street dining experience. My dining comrades and I tried Violet Beauregarde with bacon mixed in, the Blue Ox, and the true stand out the Elvis. Each waffle came out chewy and warm on the inside with crisp edges, just the way a waffle should be. Flavor combinations were on point. Can get very crowded on the weekends but totally worth the experience.

A friend recommended this place to me since I vibe around the Cherokee Street area once in awhile, and I couldn’t be anymore disappointed with the food. I get the waffle concept, and assumed that I am expecting some damn good waffles on a plate. In reality I ended up eating overpriced tasteless, soft waffles with some kind of meat topping. I was sitting there wishing I saved the money and ate at home instead… I wanted to like this place so badly. I liked the eclectic interior of arcade pinball machines and mixed furniture. The staff seems very cool, but the service was pretty slow even though there were only three tables occupied at that time. My lunching friend and I were in no hurry, but the wait was noticeably long to the point that We thought they forgot. Sorry, Melt, you’ll be the last place I would think of when I’m in the neighborhood. I really wanted to like you.

Melt is a quirky place that reminds me of the places I used to love in Wisconsin. The open space is peppered with mismatched tables and chairs, with the menu scrawled on a chalkboard wall a mile high, and the staff wearing disaffected flannel and hipster glasses almost like a uniform. There are several vegan and vegetarian options peppering the menu, but the menu certainly doesn’t punish those who like the taste of animal. The food was very good. We got the Elvis waffle, which came with bacon, bananas and chocolate, and another waffle with fruit or something(when bacon is involved, I struggle to recall anything else). The drinks were also solid. The curious thing about the service is that they kept mistaking us for another table, and whenever we would get up to play some pinball while we waited, our server kept on trying to bus our table, even though we were just 4 feet away! I lost a mostly-full drink in the process. But, let’s get down to what’s really important: the pinball. There are 5 machines available for play, including Shrek, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Lord of the Rings, and World Poker Tour. Not a bad lineup at all. The machines are in decent shape, but could use a wipedown. The most curious thing is that every one of the games autoplunged the first ball, almost like someone changed the settings to do so on purpose. All in all, I like Melt. It’s quirky, it’s fun, and the food is decent. But, more than anything, it’s nice to see a few machines still left in the St. Louis area without JR or BOZ taking up every spot on the high score list.

Melt is another hidden gem in the city of STL! Nestled into the Benton Park/Cherokee neighborhood, the yellow exterior of the building pulls you in before you even take a peek at the menu. I’ve gone on a few occasions with a variety of groups and Melt has always filled our needs. I’ve tried their Violet Beaureguarde blueberry waffle, their Vegan Wake N Bake waffle, and their plain cornmeal waffle. From sweet to savory, all have been absolutely delicious! From waffles to smoothies, this place is whipping out delicious products at a very affordable priceline. Effortlessly cool, Melt is a place I always throw in the running when making breakfast, lunch, or dinner plans with friends.

Amazing. Best waffles I have had in STL. I wish it was open more days out of the week. During the several times I have eaten here, I have loved everything I have ordered. Be prepared to spend some money, especially if you double up the order, which I recommend if you are very hungry. like so many of the other businesses on Cherokee Street, it really has a lot of character and an appealing, unique ambiance. The décor really gives Melt a character of its own. Love this place Ps: wake n bake, little piggy are two of my favorites thus far.
