I dedicated my lazy Sunday to my creative side. Being bit by the DIY bug, I took apart several necklaces to recreate a whole new one. What I needed was a chain, so I hopped on over to Michael’s. Michael’s is like the wonderful land Oz. This colorful place is a crafter’s dreamland. I was adamant to go in for what I needed, ONLY, and come out. I had to remain focus, lol. This particular Michael’s is located in a strip mall, same as Walgreens, on Lindbergh in South County. It’s a large building, so you won’t miss it. The parking lot is clean and of moderate size. Inside it’s bright, clean and orderly. The shelves are stocked plenty and everything is organized. The workers are pleasant and will ask if you have found everything. Checkout was fast and efficient. There were about 6 ladies at the registers, all attentive. I was in and out. I see myself doing more DIY projects in the future, so I hope the workers are ready to know me by name.

I am not a crafty person by any means. I get overwhelmed whenever I go into a craft store and I usually just turn around and walk back out. However, this trip was different. I had something I needed to purchase and I knew Michaels had the exact item I was looking for thanks to a friend who told me about it. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon and the parking lot wasn’t that packed which already made me feel less stressed. When I walked in the lady behind the counter greeted me and offered assistance. I didn’t actually need help and made my way to the back of the store to pick up the shadow box that I was looking for(for an American Flag). I found the box I needed and walked back up front to pay. There wasn’t a line at all-score! The lady behind the counter was so kind because she even scanned a 50% off coupon for me! What a deal! I was in and out in less than 5 minutes and I even saved about $ 24!!! Can’t go wrong with that. I think this will be the Michaels location I visit from now on since it’s not nearly as busy or overwhelming as the other one(Brentwood location).

I just got back from picking out flowers for an antique vase my bf just bought. He said he trusted me to find a nice arrangement. Well, i walked around and around at Michael’s for a good 30 minutes and still couldn’t decide on which flowers looked good together. I dont have a knack for that i guess. But a girl on the floor went to the back room and asked the floral arrangement lady to help me. Within 2 minutes, she had removed a few flowers from my hands that she said«just wouldnt work»…and created a beautiful arrangement that i LOVED actually using some flowers that i had already thought were really pretty! I mean, i am absolutely thrilled and i’m sure my bf will be too! I’m very impressed with this wonderful lady’s expertise. Extremely satisfied with today’s visit to Michael’s.

My mom is artsy fartsy and did crafts with me growing up. My husband is also craftsy so we decided to stop in. What DON’T they have? I found some light up rings and neon items for the club. It’s affordable and one can spend hours in there. Very theraputic!

I know it’s a chain, but I didn’t really know about it. Where I’m from we get all our craft supplies from Wal-Mart, and our scrapbook supplies from… actual scraps. This place is actually kind of tiny, but it was awesome. They really had a lot of cool stuff. Like Hobby Lobby, it’s expensive, but half their stuff is half price, with sale items changing weekly. Make sure you print a coupon off their website before you go. I left with two giant bags of craft supplies, really legit ones, for an insane price(good insane. They are remodeling, and therefore have tons of stuff on clearance. CRAZY good prices.

This location is usually pretty good, although there have been plenty of times when there are lots of people waiting to check out and only 1 cashier. Their selection is ok, and they usually have the items in the ad.

This location of Michael’s is the closest to my house so its my go-to store when I need something quick for crafts. I like their Des Peres location the best as its quite bigger but this one usually has what I need. I like how they send out coupons on occasion but do not like how they won’t use it with many of their items, sale or not. They are very specific on what you can use it on. I do like that they will honor the coupons via smartphone so we don’t have to waste paper. Kudos to Michaels!

The store was fine… like any other Michael’s but the check out lady was SO rude! We bought about 20 ceramic loaf pans. We asked for any used boxes we can use to carry them in versus plastic bags. She found a flimsy box and then starts loading them in without wrapping it in paper so that they don’t break. When we requested that she do that she said that people were waiting behind us to check out so we can«take it or leave it!»(there were 4 checkout counters open)

This location of Michael’s is nestled in a fairly convenient, easy-to-reach location in South County. It’s a national chain, so it caters to the ‘mainstream’ crafter – knitting, jewelry/beadwork, and scrapbooking seem to be the focuses here. Michael’s has a decent selection of traditional art supplies and other odds and ends expected of a craft store – dried flowers, wedding doodads, holiday décor, canvases, and a framing department. This location does boast one of the better yarn selections in St. Louis, and that’s what usually brings me in. My only complaint about this place is that it seems that they are always missing that one piece that is integral to your project. Oil paint, no thinner. Tatting thread, no shuttles. Ham, no burger… you know? The lines to check out here are usually pretty long, but the friendly staff make that process fairly painless. Between the great weekly sales and the large inventory, Michael’s is a good place to be to get your craft on.

For being as old as this store is, it certainly has kept itself in great shape. I have never had a problem finding EXACTLY what I need when I come to this store, and usually, I end up leaving with a ton more than I ever expected to buy in the first place. This is probably one of the best yarn selections in the South County area. They always have some kind of sale on yarn, too, so if you are looking to make a knitting investment, such as an afghan, I highly suggest checking out their weekly ad, you could get a steal on some very very fine yarn. Also, you can access their weekly ad online, so you don’t even need to dig through the annoying Saturday Post Dispatch to find what you are looking for. I think this is excellent. I will say this place needs to have more checkers. I have already stood in line here for a half hour to buy one skein of yarn. They are all chatty and want to talk to you about whatever project you are about to embark on. While this is nice, sometimes I just want to get back in my car, drive home, and not have to deal with idle chit chat… apparently the women here don’t understand that vibe.
