The new owners and chef have made a big difference in this neighborhood bar. The atmosphere fits more into the neighborhood at this point. We feel like we are treated as a part of the family each time we visit. We do not go out offen, and it feels great when we get to sneak away for a quick bite or a drink to feel like we are surrounded by friends. The food is yummy, and the service is always above average. I am now happy to have this bar and grill in my neck of the woods. Great job to the new owners and staff!!!

Gave this place another shot. New owners made this place way better then previous owner did. Food was really good. And now they have a pool table. Awesome. It just might become my regular after work bar to have a couple beers at again.

2013: We come here about once a week, almost always sitting at the bar, often getting a gloriously huge and nasty burger and/or some good hot wings.(Yes, they serve food, and yes, it’s damn tasty for bar food, and no, I have no shame.) The bartenders start recognizing us, and we usually have entertaining conversations with regulars. There is this one time we’re there around dinnertime on a Saturday and some bros roll in after being kicked out of Pepper’s. We learn quickly that because we are semi-old farts trapped in 30-year-olds’ bodies, we should vacate the premises after the evening’s baseball game or get caught up in the circus that is a 3:00 bar. We drink semi-early anyway most of the time because life’s too short for hangovers. All in all, this becomes one of our favorite places to watch sports. Spring 2014: Yay! It’s time for baseball! Let’s go to Nellie’s! Oh, look, they’re smoke-free now! Hooray!(My boyfriend does not share that sentiment, i duly note.) 7 p.m. on a weeknight, the douche quotient is already through the roof. It’s like the bros who got kicked out of Pepper’s last year have already been kicked out EVERYTIMEWESHOWUP. Ridiculously distracting, and the bartenders just look horrified. We tried coming here three times to watch a game, and three times, we GTFOd after one drink(and/or a burger) just so we could actually watch the game without being harassed or watching the poor bartender get harassed. What happened, Nellie’s? Did the bros somehow figure out where you were in the last year, or did we just become truly old farts that quickly? There are better places to get our drink on. I’ll miss those nasty burgers, though.

Motorcycle got hit at the front door and the owner didn’t seem to want to help me find out who did it. So after three calls and no help I will not be returning to this bar!

Bartenders are great. Food is descent. My friend was accused of taking pictures of the bartender. Showed them our phones. Saw nothing. Still kicked us out for doing nothing wrong while being backed by the bar staff. Poor clientele. Be prepared to be called out of place whether you deserve it or not.

Let me preface by saying that overall, I had an okay time here. Their pizza and wings were decent, and they gave free shots for Cardinal homeruns. I just find certain things really annoying and they hit on several. I cannot stand indoor smoking. Can. Not. Stand. Strike one, especially when you have a perfectly adequate patio where people can smoke. Despite it being a day with multiple big sports games, there was one bartender and a sort of bouncer-y person who alternated between helping her and just telling her to help people. Also, I had to do a lot to make the bartender like and pay attention to me, which was fine for me but not for the three people I was with. Strike two. Strike three and good enough reason for me to never return, despite living within 5 minute walk: specials were nothing like advertised. I might give you a pass for not updating your website, but it makes no sense to have an outdated chalkboard. You know that erases, right? You can’t advertise $ 3 pitchers then have them for $ 6. Nor can you advertise $.25 wings and have them nowhere close because«the owner said it was too expensive.» That statement additionally implies that the specials information has been out of date for awhile without any action being taken. Pros: free shot? Neutral: food Cons: Don’t get me started.

Went in on a coupon and have been back multiple times, and even brought a birthday party there. I challenge you to find a better Ruben in STL!(seriously, if you do message me!) The atmosphere is great they have shuffleboard, darts, games, and a GORGEOUS little courtyard out back. With lots of T.V.s and BAGS! Good beers on Draft, and of the 6 items I’ve tried, I’ve loved everyone of them! I really LOVE this place, They run great specials all the time to boot. The only draw back I see of this place is the fact it’s a 3am bar, and is ALWAYS super crowded on the weekends. If you are looking for a great place to have great Irishish food. You found it.

Went here on a Thursday after work. Comfortable south-city sports bar atmosphere. Their Ruben was unique in that you could tell they cured/smoked the meat themselves. Very good but«maybe» a bit stringy but I ate every. damn. bite. White cheddar Mac and cheese, solid. I got to taste my friend’s order of ribs; very good. Tender, juicy with a bit of smoke. Fries, solid. The slaw was really good; more like pickled peppers and cabbage with dill dressing. Very good for a neighborhood pub!

I’ve been to Nellie Glenn’s a lot recently. The place is non-smoking now and, for the size of the interior, probably for the best. They have a pretty nice patio out back but they do close it early out of respect for their neighbors. Thursdays they do some pretty cheap pitcher specials and, in general, drinks are priced pretty low in comparison. Only problem with the place was it seems like it was kind of dingy. I know it is kind of a dive but last time I was in there, there weren’t a lot of people there and each of the bar tables seemed to have some sort of leftover food product on them. I haven’t had a chance to really try any of the food but I’ve heard its pretty good though this is definitely a little off-putting to wanting to eat there. All-in-all, a pretty cool dive bar along Gravois. I’m sure I’ll be back to drink and try something and I’ll revisit this later.

I really wanted to like this place, but… I’ll“ll start with the good — $ 10 buckets on a Saturday, is good. Ordering a shot of flavored vodka, and noticing(as you’re finishing), that it has lots of brown floaties in the bottom, is bad. The bartender not offering to replace or even apologize for this, after showing it to her, is worse.

I used to go to Nellie Glenns because it was a south city bar that was kind of divey and not ghetto. It was also nice to watch sporting events on their flat screens and the food was pretty good. I was always torn going there because I hated their beer selection, but when the Cardinals were playing in the World Series I decided the view was more important. I’m a huge HUGE Cardinals fan. I would wear my necklaces, my Cardinals shirt, bring my rally towel, and had my special good luck seat. Yes I’m a huge dork. I started to get to know all the bartenders and within a month dropped at least $ 300 in that place. Let’s skip ahead to the last game in the World Series 2011, it’s in the last inning 2 outs before they win, my friend bought a beer. She had talked to the bartenders an hour previous to this moment(she doesn’t drink beer and wouldn’t have bought it otherwise) about shaking it and opening up the bottle. No one said anything. All of a sudden a bouncer, who was just a meat head prick. If you really think you are something bad ass you need to go down on Washington Ave with all the other douche bags. Anyways he comes over and yells at us, cussing tell her to put the bottle down. Did we argue? NO. Did we fight with him? NO. Did we raise our voice? NO. Did we question him? NO. I will tell you what did happen. We were humiliated for no reason, and instead of jumping up and rejoicing to the Cardinals win. I was pissed off and disgusted at how I had been treated. I spoke to the owner after wards and basically told him that I grew up in a bar and understand that he would not want beer splashed all around his bar, but the way were treated was not only unnecessary but completely ridiculous. I will not ever set foot back in this place and I hope you don’t either.

Not in love with Nellie Glenns as an early neighborhood bar, but if you’re looking for a late night spot that is full of party revelers in their early 20’s, this could be your place. They have a 3 am license and usually fill up just after midnight.

I went a few nights ago for a late nightcap. It was way too hot, overcrowded and hard to get a drink. We had one and decided it would be more comfortable elsewhere.

I have given this place several attempts at a good time but we have never had a positive experience here. It’s too bad since we live mere blocks away. We experienced terrible customer service. The beer is limited but cheap drinks.

I’ve been back to NG’s several times since my original post, and I just want to say again, how nice it is to have such a fun go-to bar in the neighborhood. Every time I go there I have such a good time, and everyone else seems to be having the same. I have noticed there to be a lot of bearded hipsters gravitating to NG’s. Not the bad hipsters, who have an annoying affectation and penchant for scarves and neon colors. NG’s hipsters are more like if Zach Galafanakis grew out his beard, put on some tight jeans and sported a Navajo wolf t-shirt. One man wolf pack! Unassuming, super nice, and really funny. The shot wheel was also in full effect the last time I went. Any time you get a bartender spinning a wheel and calling out 2 for the price of 1 on anything you want is definitely my kind of place.

Nellie Glenn’s is a very welcome addition to our lovely South City neighborhood, within walking distance of our front door. Perhaps I’m biased, since the owner(Glen) didn’t blink when I asked him to donate to the Colon Cancer Alliance Undy 5000 in honor of my mom. And then a couple months later, the staff easily accommodated my boyfriend’s 31st birthday party — making him feel like King of the Castle.(Lord knows he doesn’t get that at home.) The food and drinks are yummy, the people are nice, the bar games are plenty, and Cardinals baseball is always on TV. What’s not to love?
