Shriners Hospitals for Children

Several years ago my young daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis. The resulting severe spinal curvature eventually required a major surgery… a very expensive major surgery. The Shriners organization in Memphis was indispensable in connecting us with the resources in St Louis at the Children’s Hospital. There are simply no words to describe the atmosphere of comfort and competency which awaits the anxious patient and parent upon arriving. The relaxed atmosphere of the hospital, along with the accessible nature of the entire process gives one the feeling of more control over circumstances which can be overwhelming.
In spite of a surgery which fused 13 vertebrae in my daughters back (complete with stainless steel rods having dozens of screws) she recovered relatively quickly and has had excellent follow up care over the last 9 years. The procedure (and all continuing care) has cost us nothing and was done by Dr. Keith Bridwell, a world class surgeon who was part of the team that pioneered the technique.
If you find yourself coming here for something major and scary, know that you will find the best people with a spirit of generosity and a commitment to excellence.
