They’re gone from this location. Bummer, we were looking forward to giving it a try.

LOVE! I freaking love this place. The price is right and the food is just consistently yummy! I absolutely love the friggin’ falafel. They generously are shaped like mini cigars… but I wish they came with tahini. Last week, we asked the owner if we could have some sauce with our falafel and he acted like we were crazy, then attempted to charge us $ 6 a piece for 2 massive tzatziki bowls! Yikes. He actually told us that they don’t carry tahini at all? WTF? Not sure if there was some sort of language barrier/miscommunication or what… but I know those guys are hoarding my tahini. We have had almost everything on the menu and I loved it all. The lamb is actually cooked properly, nice and juicy, red in the middle. Everything is perfect and the prices are on point. If you think the hummus is a little expensive, that is because you get enough to last you an entire week. Don’t get me started on the pita bread… I had to feed some to the pigeons because we just couldn’t seem to eat it all in a week. It was beautiful though, light and fluffy but durable enough to scoop massive amounts of dips. Sorry… my hunger pains are causing me to blindly ramble. IN conclusion, this place is the mecca of middle eastern food for Dutchtown. Amazing. AND they stay open super late!

Finally, a Middle Eastern restaurant in Dutchtown! And it’s quite good, too. I had a simple takeaway lunch of hummus and a gyro. Both were fantastic. The hummus, like Vikram said, is creamy and full of citrus, with a healthy dollop of olive oil. Their amazing bread is perfect for scooping. The gyro is generously filled with peppery, slightly spicy gyro meat and tzatziki sauce. I only got through half the gyro before I had that unbutton-my-pants moment. One of my friends swears by the sharwarma, so that’s coming up on the next visit. The space used to be an art gallery, and Sultan’s Palace takes up 2⁄3 of that original area. It’s a large dining area with quiet décor. Parking can be challenging during the day, but do not let that stop you from visiting!

This was an odd experience. It doesn’t inspire confidence when you walk into a Middle Eastern restaurant and the first sound that meets your ears is. .. Sweet Home Alabama? Maybe it was because it was about 4 o’clock, and the place was slow. At any rate, we – me, my wife, and our two toddlers — got menus and sat down. The décor was a mix of standard Middle-Eastern restaurant items and some signs and placards that may have been inherited from a Mom’s Kitchen sort of place. A bit odd, but not too worrisome. My wife wanted hummus and falafel appetizers, as did my elder girl, and I thought the other two of us would have hummus and sfeehas, but I was wrong; even though they were on the menus, they don’t have them, because their bakery is not set up yet. I hate when a business opens in stages; I notice that they tend to close the same way, and fast. It wasn’t looking good for this place. I ordered a falafel appetizer instead of the sfeehas, along with an Arabic coffee and a smoothie for my youngest. When we got our food, the experience turned around. The hummus was excellent — creamy, tahini-heavy the way I like it, perfectly smooth and delicious, almost as good as the best I’ve had. The only drawback was the somewhat overgenerous pile of green-chile-like relish on top; it overpowered the hummus that was under it. The pitas were fluffy and light, a perfect match for the hummus. The falafel was crisp on the outside, and cooked perfectly, not a bit dry. My Arabic coffee was good but unexceptional, but the littlest one’s smoothie was delicious. We ate every bite of our food, and it stuffed a family of four for just over $ 20 including a good tip(service was good and our kids made a huge mess). I’d recommend this place for someone who knows they want hummus and falafel. I have my doubts about anything much more adventurous, though, and I’ll lay you even money their bakery never does open.

Since moving to St. Louis from Detroit I have been hopping around from restaurant to restaurant in hopes of finding Middle eastern food that satisfied that craving that has been developing from missing from my favorite place in dearborn MI(al-ameer). This place finally sated it and is by far the best middle-eastern place I have been to. 1. The bread here is amazing, unlike any pita style you have had before. Light, fluffy yet still having the central hollowness that makes it excellent for tearing, dipping and stuffing your face with. 2. Hummus with a perfect balance of citrus and creaminess with a good portion of wondrously nutty olive oil. Heaven combined with the bread in #1 3. I got the beef kabob for my main dish. It came out as 2 mouth watering skewers of beef on a bed of savory fragrant rice. The beef was bursting with flavor and extreeemly tender. 4. I had quite a few bites of my girlfriend’s falafel sandwich which was served in a split pita. It was very good and was popping with flavors that complemented the moist falafel as opposed to the dry affairs I have had at most st. louis restaurants. I will be back soon. amazing.

I came here with a friend for a going away lunch. The parking is a bit weird. You have to park in front of some sketchy places(a medical office(methinks) & a store of some type. In any case, the place looks like they are in the midst of construction(well half of it). If you park on the right side in front of the sketchy store of some type, the door is locked & you must enter through the left door. The ambience is quite airy(very very airy) although it was silent throughout the entire meal with bits of middle eastern music playing. The décor is awesome. The food was delish. We had to wait for a bit, but it was well worth it. The kebab isn’t your typical shish kebab with large chunks of meat, but rather 2 sausage like links of ground meat. It was a bit tooo salty for my liking, but was quite flavorful. The pitas weren’t warm & okay in taste. The baba ghanoush was good. The pickled veggie salad was my fave part of the meal. Soooo freaking good & crunchy! Not tooo vinegary. The mint tea came out in a teapot on a silver metal serving tray &2 tea glasses. The tea itself was foodgasmic. Seriously, that tea was the most awesome mint tea I’ve had in a while. The food is predominantly Palestinian. The staff were helpful. I would definitely come back here to try some other dishes & possibly some dessert.

I walked into Sultan Palace on a whim last night, just looking to get a takeout falafel sandwich. I was informed that they just opened this past Monday, and they’re still getting set up in the back. The dining room is set up and very nicely remodeled. For such a large space, they did a good job of making it decently cozy — I think the addition of some rugs on the walls and more pillows in the windows would warm things up a bit more in preparation for the coming chill. The place was empty(it was early) and the staff was around the register. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful, I ordered my falafel and some baba ganoush to-go. I was offered some hot tea which had a beautiful sage aroma and was already sweetened. I was offered a seat in the dining room and sipped on my tea while my food was prepared. My order was ready by the time I was done with my tea. The baba ganoush was beautifully prepared — a little bit soupy with the perfect amount of garlic coming through and hitting you in the face. The pitas(home made) are puffy and doughy — thicker than what I’m used to, but they worked well for dipping and even for the sandwich. The falafel did not have a crunchy exterior, but the flavor was spot-on — the added tahini, lettuce, tomato and pickled veg(I think it was a pickled slaw) added the tang that I was looking for. I have no doubt that the sandwich would have been even better had I eaten in. Here’s the kicker — it’s sooooo cheap! I was astounded at how low the prices are — I paid less than $ 9 for that meal and was stuffed. So if you find yourself in Dutchtown South, give Sultan’s Palace a try. I’m excited to go back and try more off their menu.
