Another success! This week has been the week from hell for health. I started showing symptoms on Friday, and this baby didn’t hit full force until mid week! I stumbled through the first few days, but Wednesday was hump day. And I did not make it over that hump! I felt the worst yet, so I made an appointment for the Take Care Clinic on Gravois. Making appointments for these clinics can be done online through the Walgreens website. You put in your desired time and zip code, and the website gives you appointment times at locations all around you. I chose eleven on Thursday. I was running late because my landlord decided to drop by unexpectedly at 10:45, but there wasn’t any issue from the nurse practitioner. She got me in right away. We discussed my symptoms, and she concluded that it wasn’t strep throat. Thank Gawd! However, she really gained props when I asked about the prescription. I wanted to go the cheapest route and asked her point blank if Walgreens was going to be as cheap. She admitted that amoxicillin was FREE at Schnucks with my insurance and sent my presciption electronically so that the pharmacy could get to work on it right away! I’m definitely feeling a little better today, but after my second visit to a Take Care Clinic, I’m sold on these places as viable healthcare options.

The website and their computer registration system at this store says they treat minor injuries. They don’t. Credit to the nice practitioner who told me she couldn’t treat me less than 5 minutes after I checked in. But they still only get two stars because, well, they didn’t provide any services even though they said they would!

So I’m sick for a couple of days with a bad cold and high fever. I know it’s a cold and colds can’t be cured with medicine, only treated with rest and lots of fluids. But my employer won’t let me stay home for more than one day without a doctor’s note. And my doctor won’t see me on short notice for just a cold. So what’s a sick, feverish girl to do? Go to Take Care Clinic, the new urgent care center in selected Walgreen’s stores. So far, there are only two in the city proper: the one at Grand and Gravois, and the other at Chippewa and Kingshighway. Weeks earlier, I had subjected myself to a quick flu shot with no waiting and no problems. The clinic is staffed by a PA and a registered nurse, and they provide a number of services, including flu shots, vaccinations, and diagnosis of non-emergency issues like colds, flu, and the like. Both visits were great, with extremely friendly service. So far, I’m a fan.
