The Blodgett Lighthouse is closing Saturday, October 31, 2015. The owner died. They’ve been open more than 30 years. I went to the store when they were over on Page. And came with them to the Warson location. I hate this. I’ve been there so many times through the years for ceiling fans, special lightbulbs, old lamp(my Mother’s mother) base fixes, lampshades of all sorts. I went in today to get new lampshades for two lamps in my living room. I HAD cream-colored lampshades. I prefer white. They had two that were the perfect size. I installed them, and turned on the lights. What beauticify! Much more light with the white shades. And they’re gorgeous. 40% off on lampshades. If you need lightbulbs, lampshades, lamps, ceiling fans — anything that’s in that category. Go before Saturday. The showroom is FULL! NOW, I have to figure out where to go for these things that are kind of esoteric. Out of the norm. The Blodgett Lighthouse is a unique supplier of wonderful incredible needs. And the owner was such a lovely, knowledgeable and colorful man.

I came here on the advice of another store to have a desk lamp fixed. A very very expensive lamp(the kind that you wave over the base to turn it on or off). I was convinced that they could repair the lamp since they said that they fix antiques. The total time it took to repair it was 3 weeks, & this was due to the high volume of light fixtures that needed to be repaired. I was okay with that, but the results of this repair I was not happy. My bf decided to investigate on what was done. It turns out that they put a 12 volt transformer in a 24 volt lamp. WTF??? Yet, the repair guy said that I could put a higher wattage bulb in it. Okay. That still doesn’t make sense to me to put a 12 volt transformer with a high wattage bulb in a 24 volt lamp. I may not know electrical repair, but the math doesn’t seem right in this case. Another issue was that they couldn’t fix the light sensor on the motherboard. So, they had to put in a regular switch which brings down the coolness of the lamp by 99%. Still, I understand that not all things can be fixed, but my hopes were definitely down. Total repair bill was about $ 80 or so(if I can recall correctly) including the cheap $ 2 transformer part that they put in. Ummmm, yeah. Will I come here again? Maybe to find an obscure light bulb, but definitely not bringing any light fixture for repair again.
