The Mack was introduced to us by a regular. It was pretty delicious. I got a four cheeseburger and a salad with there house pepper vinaigrette. The burger was well cooked and really good. The salad was pretty plain and the dressing could have had more flavor. My husband got the steak sandwich, he said it was good. They have waffle fries, so that made him happy. The kiddos got grilled cheese with fries and green beans. The green beans were delicious — made with bacon. They have some local beers on tap and the prices were pretty decent. The Unilocal review says not good for kids, but I disagree. They have a basketball game and our kids were able to be loud without interruption to other diners. We will be back with our friends.

I think this place deserves its average three stars. The place seemed clean. I only went inside to take my son to the bathroom. The rest of the time we were sitting outside enjoying the weather. My no and her friend come here most Thursday’s I guess for drinks and half price apps. There’s a drink called the Scooby snack that was delicious. Wasn’t overly fond of the apps. The toasted veggie ravioli tastes a bit pre made and frozen. But who knows. I’d come back for drinks with my mom and maybe a grilled cheese and fries, but that’s about it. However the service was great. Our waitress was super friendly and personable. And the bar/restaurant area is smoke free and family friendly. Always a plus!

If you know the regulars here, it’s one of the greatest bars in the world. If you don’t know anybody here… well…The service is hit or miss depending on if you’re a regular. Some bartenders/servers are amazing no matter what. Other bartenders/servers will ignore you if they don’t know you. The crowd at The Mack will look at you funny if they don’t recognize you. Everybody knows each other here. Overall, the food is pretty good. Burgers and pizzas are the highlights. On Fridays, they have $ 5 burgers all day. On Mondays, they have $ 5 burgers from 5:00 — 10:00. Don’t expect fancy drinks here. This is a low maintenance Budweiser/Bud Light zone. During the week, the crowd ranges from ages 20s to 40s, but it’s a young crowd during the weekends. Sundays are a free for all. The Mack is filled with all-day drunks on Sundays.

The bacon burger was good. So were the fries and wings. Friendly server and the food came out quick. If you’re looking for some quick decent bar food… this place works!

Ok let me explain this rating. The place has a LOT going for it, including cheap ass but better than average burgers, great service and all around decent prices. But they are working against themselves in so many ways. The dining room is waaaay too brightly lit to feel comfortable eating in. Also in the dining room, they have this awfully loud basketball carnival game thing. It is probably really fun for kids who like doing that sort of thing, but absent any other games or a «game room» in which to house the hulkingly massive toy, it is out of place distracting and super noisy. My opinion is that they should get rid of it altogether. Lastly, the burgers. They were properly cooked. They weren’t the most explosively flavorful in the world but damn good for just $ 5(on Tuesdays) w fries. They would have been twice as good if, instead of the cute little brand the chef must have his crew burn into each burger bun, they just toasted the bun for like one minute. The brand was kitchy but the bun was cold which kinda sucks on a good burger. If I could wave a magic wand, I’d lose the basketball game, lower the lighting significantly, and is toast the buns! Loved our server though.

I can see why so many people are a fan of The Mack. — Family friendly — Very casual ambiance — TVs playing sports — Bar is open late(1:30am) — Food specials almost everyday — Food is well priced, especially when you go on a day with specials I’ve been waiting to go to The Mack for the longest time and had heard great things about their burgers. Since that time, about 2 months ago, I have been to The Mack twice. Once for the burger and wings and once for the pizza specials. Southside Burger — Much smaller than I was expecting. The meat was a little bland, so it really needed the other items to carry it. Pizza(chicken with white wine and mushrooms) — This was a good deal because of the half off 16″ pizzas on Sundays. The chicken wasn’t grilled chicken, it was breaded fried chicken. Definitely, enough to feed two. I wasn’t a huge fan of the pizza. The chicken was and toppings weren’t super flavorful. Wings — These were pretty tasty, probably my favorite thing I have had a here. Wouldn’t mind coming again to try out some different menu items. I really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere.

My husband and I once lived right down the street from the Mack. It served it’s purpose as a friendly little corner bar within walking distance. The food is average pub fare; nothing that will knock your socks off. The beer selection is a nice mix between domestic and import, there’s definitely something to make everyone happy here. Service is decent, especially if you become a regular and tip well. They recently updated their bathrooms — which was a huge improvement! I would say cleanliness is mediocre at best, but that’s kind of what one expects with a neighborhood pub.

The pizza is outstanding and on Sunday the 16″ pizza is half price. When sporting events are on TV it’s a jumping place. Service has been outstanding

Been to The Mack a couple of times. Good service. Good drink specials. Pizza is ½ off on Sunday and they make a pretty good St Louis style thin crust pizza. We like coming here. Fun crowd and we have had great service. Will keep coming back.

They have a lot of specials and their food is pretty good. I usually go on Fridays to get a five dollar burger. The potato skins are very tasty as well. I’d give them more stars but it’s usually way to packed when I go to get fast enough service and the waitresses/waiters don’t really check up on you to see if you want a refill unless you are sipping on a beer or enjoying any other kind of alcohol.

South City burger is awesome! Taco pizza was tasty too. Easygoing neighborhood place like others say, gets hopping on weekend nights — it’s an anchor for the Macklind business district. I haven’t gone just for drinks in ages, but it’s your typical south side sports bar, so decide for yourself if that’s your scene :). Food is definitely better than typical bar food tho!

The Mack is a good neighborhood sports bar without too many frills in a good way. They have a good beer selection and the menu looked good(have not ordered food here yet but it smells good). Most impressive is their massive list of specialty shots!

The Mack is a small family friendly, neighborhood bar and grill located on Macklind Ave in South City’s South Hampton neighborhood. By the looks on the outside you wouldn’t really expect much, there are a few seats which provide limited outside seating but when you walk in you discover a good size bar with three unique sections. You first notice the bar section, however there are two more slightly separated spaces with more casual seating perfect for a drink with a friend, or even a quick meal with the family. The atmosphere here is low key, there are more than enough TVs so you don’t need to worry about missing a second of the Cardinals game either! There are also dart boards and even a basketball game which can allow you to challenge your friend to see who is a better shot! The staff here is friendly, and the beers are cold. Be sure to check their menu for the weekly specials, to save a few dollars. For example on Friday, you can get $ 1.50 domestics and a 8oz burger with fries for ½ Price, or on Saturday you can get a half priced pizza! Specials are dine in only, so no carry out at discounted prices! The food here is equally as impressive, I have to admit that The Mack possibly serves one of the best burgers in Saint Louis and best of all, it’s cheap starting at only $ 6.50 with the most expensive burger being $ 8.00 with fries! I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger which is an 8oz burger topped with cheddar cheese and smoked bacon. The burger itself was seasoned perfectly, and cooked to perfection the bacon was crisp and delicious. The fries were perfectly crisp and seasoned and paired well with the burger, my meal was so good I came back the following Sunday to take advantage of the Sunday pizza special! The pizza is good, and served thin crust just like Imo’s however I actually preferred the crust at The Mack over Imo’s. The toppings are good, and appeared to be quality ingredients in fact the pepperoni had a unique spicy flavor without being too strong. I also tried some of their Toasted Ravioli, which were equally as tasty. Overall The Mack offers great food, cold beer, family friendly service at a reasonable price(especially their daily specials). I really wish Unilocal had I ½ star ratings, because I feel that The Mack deserves a solid 4.5 review, anyways I highly recommend adding The Mack to your list of places to visit!

So glad I listened to Unilocal and added this to my bookmarks! I wanted to go out on a Saturday and thought The Mack would be the place to try for dinner and drinks. When we arrived the bar was packed with patrons enjoying food and drinks. We found a table in the back area and took our seats. Soon after, the waitress came over to bring our menus and offer us some drinks. She told us about a bucket of beer special so we went ahead and ordered it; why not? As we looked over the menu it become clear that we arrived during a Blues game(that expalins why it was so packed)! We were hearing cheers and moans/groans throughout our visit, but it was exciting! Our waitress came over with water and made some suggestions for dinner. I didn’t want a pizza(even though it did look good) so I ordered the chicken sliders with honey mustard and the bf ordered a burger(recommendation made by Unilocal). Our beers came out shortly afterwards and we just enjoyed the atmosphere and the Blues fans cheering. The waitress came over a few times to check in on us and kept us updated on our food orders. We weren’t in a rush so it didn’t really matter. We did appreciat it though. It was just nice to be at a bar enjoying life for a while. Our food came out and looked so good. The fries were hot and fresh and the chicken sliders were so cute looking-good choice! I had the honey mustard on the side and was happy with my order. I know the bf enjoyed his burger because he ate it all and didn’t say much. Overall, The Mack is a good bar in the area and I can see myself going back for sporting events and good times! The place itself is a little run down, but I guess that’s all part of the experience. A dive bar with good food. I’ll be back!

Remember that one time the power randomly went out as your waitress was walking away with your credit card, and 45 minutes later the POS had not rebooted? And then she said that it was impossible to write down the card info because the POS had no way to enter card numbers? Also, said waitress didn’t write things down. Surprisingly… more than 5 things were messed up between 4 people. Considering it took 15 minutes to get her to notice that we wanted to get our check, we could have left before the power went out and screwed up the computer. When I finally went to have an employee find a manager, he said that they thought«it was close to being fixed.» Aside from the waitress the saying sorry a few times, there was nothing that made me feel okay about being there for more than 2.5 hours when it took us an hour for dinner. I noticed other customers waiting, so I hope they got around to hunting down the manager. Otherwise, they might still be there. Like even as you’re reading this. Because customer service.

Every so often, it is good to update the reviews of some of your favorite haunts. The Mack is close to my home, making it easy to grab a great char-grilled burger. Yesterday I stopped for a quick lunch and enjoyed a Four Cheese Burger. Did you hear that, Jack? Four Cheese! That kinda puts your Ultimate Cheeseburger to shame. My burger was char-grilled to a perfect medium rare and topped with cheddar, pepper jack, provel and american cheese. I paid the additional $ 1 and upgraded from regular fries to Criss-Cross Fries aka Waffle Fries. In addition to great burgers, they offer up an amazing grilled chicken and steak sandwich as well. They also offer a large variety of craft beers on draught and in bottle. The atmosphere is a relaxed smoke-free neighborhood bar.
