My wife and I stop there for lunch. My wife ordered the Reuben sandwich which she said was excellent I ordered the Maui chicken sandwich which I didn’t realize it was jerk chicken because the menu said nothing about being a jerk chicken sandwich. Than our waitress Brandi explained that there a new menu and and it didn’t say jerk chicken on the menu. Needless to say Brandi and Chris took care of it. They were great I would highly recommend this place me and my wife had a blast.

The beach bar is great, only reason I am giving a bad review is because of the bartender Brandi. She had an awful attitude and is abrasive and doesn’t smile. Not an asset to the company. Go back to the Clam.

Great fun day beachside! Spent a few hours with a friend grabbing lunch at this low key local favorite spot. The DJ Margarita was so delish that I had to get a second round. We had the gator bites for an app and both loved them. He ordered the grouper sandwich which his is favorite and highly recommended it for me but I am not a fan of fish. I decided upon the shrimp roll and enjoyed it but will try something the next time we go there. The atmosphere is fun, relaxing and low key… great way to wrap up the weekend! Oh, the live music is also a nice unexpected treat!

I liked the Keylime pie drink. Price was average at 7:50. Service was OK not great. Place is kind of small but cute. The bathrooms were dirty. The location is beautiful. I’ll be back when it’s warmer out

The food is good. The beers are cold and plentiful. It’s your average beach bar and service is slow to no nonexistent when they’re busy. Overall, not a bad place to drink, but not worth the trip if you’re not in the neighborhood.

If your from Chicago like I am, forget the pizza. Burgers are big but not a big deal. They do have a very good beer menu. The beach bar on Friday and Saturday night is a joke, forget about getting fast — good service on those days. The restaurant is in the Howard Johnson hotel and if you have a young family do not stay here on the weekends. I’ve never seen so many drunk young adults, not to mention the 40 – 60 yr old range also. Never again.

Service here sucks. Took a walk down the beach from our hotel and decided to stop in. It was pretty crowded but got a spot at the bar — yay. All went downhill from there. The bartenders were all surley and seemed angry that it was busy. I always thought busy was good for people on the service industry, but apparently not. Anywho, ordered a piña colada and strawberry daquiri. PC sucked, SD passable. Was thinking about ordering wings but no one ever came back to ask if we wanted anything else. After we sat for a good long time without anyone helping us, we gave up & went next door to Jimmy B’s. Much better.

Bar service slow. Music sucks. They stopped food at 9:20 because«they needed to catch up with the kitchen.» Just makes no sense for this type of place to be this bad. Two of my friends literally walked home because this place was this shitty. There are many, many, many better places in this area.

Restaurants attached to hotels can definitely be hit or miss. Toasted Monkey has delivered excellent food and service twice now. The onion rings are huge and perfectly fried. The nachos are too big and loaded to eat for the average appetite(though fairly stingy on the salsa portion). Service is friendly and attentive. Parking has not been a real issue the two times we have come which can often be a problem at beach locales.

I love this place.(The back bar) The atmosphere, the food, drinks and the band they have on Tuesday night is the shit! But i did have a server Kelly who was rude and made my friend and i feel like we were a bother to her. Again love the place. Maybe they need new servers and more on staff on a busy night

This won’t be a a long post bc I was there just for a cocktail. But I went on a Friday night and the Band was great. Very chill and laid back. The weather was great so we sat outside. There are a few volley ball nets that are kept in excellent shape. We did order 1 appetizer. I believe it was some type of stuffed mushrooms. It was amazing. They were stuffed with parmesan cheese. Not sure what else was in it because by this time I was like 6 drinks deep… I walked over to Jimmy Bs but should’ve stayed.

I’ve been here twice now and can’t say I’m that impressed. It’s not bad, but not great either. The first time I was here I had dinner inside awhile back. We then stopped in again this past Sunday during Labor Day weekend. The atmosphere was pretty fun, but the service was terrible! The first time I went to order a beer the bartender just looked at me with a questionable face. I guess that was his way of asking what I wanted. So I told him my order then he put his hand out. Again, I guess that’s his way of asking for money. It was on the busier side that day, but not busy enough to not be able to talk. The worst part was trying to close. I’m pretty sure it took a good 30 minutes to try to get my tab back. I would wave down the bartender(a different one from above) and he would then say I would be right with you. Then would never come back. Finally my bf got his attention and we told him I wanted to close at least 5 times. He kept forgetting over and over. He even came out from the bar and asked us what the tab was. Then he forgot again. I will say the monkey has a cool atmosphere but as for service and price for beers, I’m better off going next door to Jimmy B’s.

This is an okay spot for a bite by the beach and /or some drinks. The blue cheese burger was pretty good although I’d prefer the bacon on top of theelted cheese rather than in it. I’m a purist and I don’t want my bacon soggified. The grouper sandwich was expensive and not good. Service is a mixed bag. The tall blonde lady whose name I should have gotten wasn’t my waitress but checked in me frequently and was nice and smiling. :)

I made it to Toasted Monkey twice over the weekend as I stayed at the attached Howard Johnson. The first time was for the fight and it was very crowded and rowdy. The second time was for breakfast the next day. Toasted Monkey has an inside restaurant area and an outdoor bar near the beach. The breakfast menu was pretty extensive and I enjoyed what I ordered. The cheesy jalapeño hashbrowns were as good as they sounded and they paired quite nicely with a mimosa. The food wasn’t anything to write home about, but the proximity of the restaurant was perfect. I would recommend Toasted Monkey for drinks near the beach and a nice spot to relax. As for breakfast, there are probably better options in the area but Toasted Monkey has decent food at a good price.

It’s a beach bar. A popular one since no matter how hot it is people fill the patio to look at St Pete Beach and listen to live music. Now, this place is set back from the shore and there’s a volley ball court between you and a clear view of the beach. I mean, it is on the beach but you are many many yards from the water and there’s a volley court right smack up to the outdoor patio. It doesn’t bother most people though. The service is consistently spotty.(Ha!) Friendly but clearly rushed because of the crowd. You will have to flag your server down more than you’d like to do. I wouldnt mind if the drinks they poured were stronger but they’re not. The food has been average. Better than most beach bars I will say. Pros: view of st Pete beach, live music Cons: weak drinks and spotty service,

The food was average. The service left a lot to be desired. We were sat and told to hold on for our drink orders. We probably waited 10 minutes. Then we waited another 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive at the table. I ordered a salad, and it was fresh, and served on a cold plate which I appreciate. The experience overall was just kind of average. Nothing stuck out in my mind as being phenomenal or horrible. I might be back, but maybe not.

Stop #3 on a St Pete Beach pub crawl. Located close to PCI and Jimmy B’s right on the beach with volleyball courts and a live band. Get a great view of the water along with some music! Drink Prices are reasonable. Bar Service was quicker than PCI and the music was good! They have plenty of TV’s if you want to watch the game and a full menu with burgers, wings, pizza, and seafood. Jimmy B’s has better food and a bigger deck but this place has cheaper prices on drinks which is always welcomed. Full liquor bar, casual dress code, wood deck bar and tropical theme ambiance, parking is limited. Park at Jimmy B’s if they run out of spots.

I don’t go to Toasted Monkey that often because, to be honest, I prefer a few other St Pete Beach beach bars. If I want to be on the sand itself with a drink, typically Bongos is my place. If I want better music, younger more vibrant crowd and late night club-style partying, Jimmy B’s. If it’s college spring break and I want to do Jagerbombs, Undertow. However, Toasted Monkey has two great things going for it that the others do not. One, their staff turnover rate seems to be much lower so you get to know their bartenders and they’re all incredibly nice and friendly people. Second, and more important, there is a really great local reggae band called Impulse who play there certain days. If you Google«Impulse Band Reggae» you should find their Facebook site with schedule. I go by their schedule since Toasted Monkey’s is often not up to date. When Impulse is playing, I go to Toasted Monkey. TM has outside and inside seating. When it’s busy, it’s very cramped, so if you don’t like crowds, might not be the best option. Food is simply so-so; it provides nourishment to keep your pub crawl going but not much beyond that. Drinks can be good for a good price depending on bartender and day. Their bartenders are typically pretty good so if one does you wrong on the pour, go to a different one. They have some great drink specials that are available from time to time, for example, Monday and Thursday nights; $ 2.75 you call it Smirnoff flavors. Weekends, the drinks can get a bit crazy, so you may want to ask about price before you order. All complaints are only minor: 1) This place is attached to a Howard Johnson hotel, and is adjacent to the pool, so you see a lot of people in bathing suits in the bar, and as we know in this wonderful country, that can be a great thing, or a very scary thing. Prepare yourself for sights that cannot be unseen. Yes this can happen at any beach bar, but it seems to happen more here for reasons unknown. 2) The outdoor patio is a bit cramped so if you have a stroller, might be best to forget it in the room/car. 3) The view of the water is not as great as competing properties; you’re set back behind volleyball courts and a field of sea oats. 4) There is smoking, and since it tends to be pretty cramped quarters, if that bothers you, you will be bothered. 5) There always seems to be a lot of kids running around on the outside deck. When my kid is old enough to run around, I’m going to be calling it quits on beach bars; just a fact of life I have to face. Other parents don’t seem to care, so if you’re sitting on the outside patio, and screaming running kids annoy you, well, you know the drill. Parents; see #4. Anyway, fun place, and when Impulse is playing, five stars.
