The atmosphere here is beautiful and amazing. The food is very delicious and the naan is so addicting. The menu is very large and it has a lot of options from chicken, lamb, goat, fish, and vegetarian options. I would suggest coming here.

I don’t know why this place has these many good reviews. I have been to many states in US and this place serve the worst Indian food. We had the lunch buffet and everything was cold and not at all reached the standard of Indian food. The place has a weird smell.

The other evening my partner and I ordered takeout from this restaurant. We ordered a few items all of which came to total 80ish dollars. We were appalled at the quantity of food and its lack of flavor! There was more rice than there was food. A tandoori platter with chicken and shrimp($ 25) had two soggy shrimp and two pieces of chicken… the rest of the food was pure crap!!! Stay away from this so called Indian restaurant. No complexity of flavors which makes Indian food so fabulous! A real waste of $ 85. Better yet a rip off!!!

Gateway to India earned every single one of those 5 stars! I have tried Indian food in multiple cities across the country(Houston, Austin, San Fran, New York, etc…) and I have never experienced something this delicious before. We had a group of 5, so we ordered a variety of things(guided by our friend who had eaten there several times). The cauliflower appetizer is not to be missed. You should also have the black lentil dish from the Vegan menu(even if you aren’t vegan). The lamb korma was mouthwatering, as was the chicken tikka masala. So much goodness in one place! Now, even though the food was fantastic, I would not have given five stars unless the service matched. Thank goodness it did! Our host(I say host because we were treated like treasured guest in a home) was attentive, friendly, and made great suggestions on the food and wine pairings. If you don’t go here, your life will never be truly fulfilled.

This Indian place was good. The food was good the service was good. I would say the portions could be bigger. Be careful you are going to the right location. I think they moved recently.

Pretty good Indian restaurant for the area. Brought my Mom here for Mother’s Day. We’re regulars of Taste of Punjab, but they don’t have a lunch buffet Sundays. This had been on my radar for a while so it was nice to finally try. Not as many vegetarian selections as I’m used to, and had to spice all of them. Some good flavors, but a couple were bland. Service and atmosphere were pleasant. If I’m in the area, would definitely try again. Good Indian restaurants are hard to come by!

Great buffet. Loved the chicken malai kabob. The naan came out to the table crunchy and perfect. Loved the Methi Matar Paneer. Tikka masala was creamy and delicious. Of course, could be spicier.

Have eaten dinner here four times and everything; food, service, atmosphere is excellent. At every Indian restaurant I’ve ever eaten I always get butter chicken. This gives me an apples to apples comparison. I can honestly say this is the best butter chicken I’ve ever had. Kids loved the mango lassa and it was very tasty. I also recommend to Tikki Masala, chicken Korma, Daal Makhani, Paneer Butter Masala, and garlic nan. Appetizer of Lasooni Gogbi is a little spicy. I normally don’t like cauliflower but this is good. Monty is great. If in doubt go with his recommendations.

Gateway to India… more like Gate to Heaven! When I die I hope to go to heaven where I can eat Indian food everyday, live in a mansion, watch sports, drive around in a Tesla, and hang with the gf all day(I may or may not have been forced to say this). Jokes aside… The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and has nice ambiance(pretty dim inside which is not a bad thing!) As for their lunch buffet, there were only about 8 different dishes, 2 of which had protein — tandoori chicken and chicken masala. It’s pretty limited compared to other Indian buffets I’ve been to but it has the essentials that I look for in an Indian restaurant. Chicken tandoori was one of the best I’ve ever had and they were frequently restocked. They do lunch buffet everyday(11:30AM — 2:30PM) including weekend so I will definitely return soon!

Definitely go for the lunch buffet. For $ 11.76, you can sample a wide selection of the meals on their dinner menu. Not sure if the food options rotate each day, but I highly recommend the Lemon Basmati Rice, Onion Chutney, Tandoori Chicken, Raita, Butter Naan, and Chicken Tikka Masala.

First Indian restaurant I’ve been to in the area and it did not disappoint! Has a great location in St. Pete, next a few other awesome spots. Quaint place with fun/traditional Indian décor. The staff are wonderful and very fun. Food was great. Just the right amount of heat. So many wonderful options to choose from. Definitely go family-style and order a bunch of different dishes to try. Make sure to ask for the mango-chutney as it helps cool the palate after some of the spicier dishes(i.e. anything«vindaloo»). Ordered the Chicken tikka-masala, lamb saag, goat vindaloo. It was phenomenal. Really a break from your run-of-the-mill dinners. So refreshingly different from most other options in the area. Will be my new staple-indian restaurant.

Typical Indian buffet, but definitely on the high end of the scale. For a self-serve place the service is very good, they bring out naan, silverware, and drinks. The food is all fresh, warm and very good. The atmosphere is cozy, it’s dimly lit with traditional Indian decorations and soft Indian music. 10⁄10 EDIT: I had tripped on my way to take a photo and was on the ground for a few seconds, as I got to the buffet I felt something crawling on my elbow, I slapped it and two bugs about stink bug size(but with the body structure of a ladybug) ran towards the the buffet and disappeared… literally seconds after I posted my original review. I was in shock for several minutes but took the photo of the buffet nonetheless… 3⁄10 because the food was nice and the décor was good but bugs on the floor…

Second visit, this time for lunch and their lunch buffet. My only disappointment here was the size of the buffet. When my lady and I first came for dinner, the server told us that they pretty much have the whole menu available at the buffet, but that didn’t appear to be true since the buffet only had 7 or 8 items. Regardless, this is excellent Indian food. They had a good selection of chicken and vegetarian dishes, including staples like Chicken Tikka Masala, which I had for dinner last time and was a good as I remember, and Tandori Chicken, which is good, but strange that it is so popular. Just tastes like cooked chicken to me — its good, but the other dishes are so much better. I tried a couple of new items, including something called Dal Tadka, which is a soupy kind of dish made with lentils, and also a veggie kolapuri and a chicken do pyaza. There were multiple dishes there, and I couldn’t tell you how they were made or what was in them, but I can tell you that I wrote down a few of them and I cannot wait to try them at home. The best praise I can give this place is that we never had Indian food prior to our first visit, but since then, it has become a staple in our house. While our recipes may not be authentic, we probably cook an Indian dish once to twice per week, and I can’t wait to incorporate a couple of new ones from this visit. Anyway, back to the buffet — they also provide you with naan bread, but it is not part of the buffet — presumably because you(I) would eat most(all) of it. Besides the slightly limited selection, the only other complaint I have is that it was freezing. I know its early September in Florida, but you do not need your dining room to be 60 degrees. Nothing stayed hot once removed from the buffet line. Still, that’s not enough of a reason to remove a star. I only had 2 plates(yes, only — shut up, it was a buffet), but that is not a mark against Gateway to India. I could have gone back for a third and probably a fourth, but I was being good. I hate it when I’m being good.

All the dishes taste the same. They are all sweet and filled with cream. Nothing Indian about them. The serving size is ridiculously small compared to similar restaurants and similar pricing in Orlando, Miami, New York, DC etc Don’t waste your money eating sweet cream of different color being passed as Indian food !! This is obviously a rip off for white Americans who don’t know any better. Keep your standards high people !!

— Short Synopsis — Good lunch buffet with nice, light, complimentary naan bread!!! My favorites were the chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, the methi matar goshi, and the rice pudding out of the available items. The first three went great with rice or naan bread. Also, there is a great ambiance to the restaurant with the décor and bollywood music playing in the background! I will come back here when I crave more Indian cuisine! — Detailed Review — I came here for the lunch buffet and enjoyed my experience here. The complimentary naan bread was thinner than I am use to, but still good and goes well with many of the buffet choices available. I did have to ask the waiter for the naan refills, so be prepared to do that if you’d like more. The chicken tikka masala had a nice subtle sweet coconut taste along with chunks of chicken that made it delectable. The methi matar goshi also had a subtle sweet, nutty flavor that I really enjoyed. These two items, the chicken tikka masala and methi matar goshi, were my two favorite items offered at the buffet. The tandoori chicken was good as well. To spice things up, they have a hot chili pepper sauce available along with a yogurt sauce, sweet n sour sauce, and onion chutney. These were located near the plates and sauce plates at the buffet table. The buffet style and layout of choices allow you to create your own dish of what you like. Oh, the countless combinations you can make! This means you can try a little of everything on your first go around and then get what you really enjoy. With two types of rice and the naan bread, you have some options as far as what to put the other goods on. For the ambiance, they have bollywood style music playing in the background along with nice Indian looking décor around the dining areas. These provide for a nice setting to enjoy Indian cuisine. They also have TV’s that showed music videos, although the videos were a tad strange to me coming from a different culture. As it currently stands, it is $ 11 per person for the lunch buffet and it is worth it for the food and ambiance you receive. I recommend this place and will come back to satisfy my Indian cravings.

Very nice Indian restaurant in the Tyrone area of St Petersburg. It was a very pleasant surprise to walk into such a professional establishment; workmanship put into the petal foundations, romantic lighting, and classy dressed staff threw me off a little. The staff with completely dotes on the customers, to the point of being creepy. «Back off man! Don’t take my plate, I’m not done yet!» They are open 7 says a week, and also serve the lunch buffet everyday. Prepare yourself, as they are stingy with the naan. The Tomato Rice is freakin’ awesome. That is all.

More like 4.5 stars! Coming from a fellow Indian, it’s the biggest compliment. We’re hard to please ;) Looks boring from outside BUT very beautiful inside. Love the artwork and decorations. As you’re seated, they bring you a complementary basket of fennel-seed papadam and onion chutney. Yummy! Appetizer: Chicken 65. I was very displeased with this appetizer. They charged us $ 9 for 6 chicken nuggets in a spicy tomato sauce. Thank God rest of the meal was amazing. Entrees: * Lamb saag — lamb curry with puréed spinach and fenugreek. OMG, it was really good. BIG portions. * Lamb Madras — South Indian style lamb curry with coconut milk. It was a little sweet, kind of surprised me at first but good nonetheless. * Shrimp vindaloo — 6 pieces of shrimp and potatoes in fiery red curry. DISCLAIMER: only order mild. We ordered medium and it was too hot! * Lamb biriyani — marinated lamb with basmati rice and spices. Breads: Garlic naan and Tandoori roti. Don’t let the crazy names scare you away, both breads were amazing. They are both made in the tandoor oven. Dessert: Pistachio Kulfi. Kulfi is a denser and much creamier version of regular ice creams. That made more sense in my head lol. Since it’s not whipped, it has almost a custard-like feel to the ice cream. They come in so many amazing flavors like mango and cardamom but pistachio is my fave.

I went just for the lunch buffet. The food was well presented on a long table in back where the containers were good size and there was plenty of room. Some of these Indian buffets the food looks like its about out in each but each had plenty left and I was there on the late side. There were 3 chicken options and also plenty for vegetarian of course. The service was attentive. The bread was hot out of the kitchen and brought without extra charge on the buffet. It might be budget bread as it wasn’t flavored and there was no option on type, just plain white. Most good Indian restaurants are now charging for bread, and some for rice too. If this was elsewhere than south Florida I might give one less star as the Chicken Tikka masala wasn’t that spicey. To my taste I want it spicey. However knowing how all these upper Midwest snowbird seniors are around there I figured they have to cater to the clientele and most of them would whine and say they couldn’t eat it if it was served properly. I would have preferred much more spice in it! Hotter! I didn’t mark down for that though.
