I have never had indian food before and for a first time this food was really good! All the spices were delicious and everything was a reasonable price! Really interesting that this place is a restaurant and also a convenience store.

Finally tried this place after driving by it for a few months. I was really hoping it would be good, since it’s so close to me and so affordable. Well, you get what you pay for I guess. The people were very friendly, and the veggie samosas were ok, but the rest was middling-to-bad. The chicken tikka marsala in particular was quite poor. The sauce was very thick, with an almost gritty consistency, and the flavor was off-putting, yet bland. The chicken, as well as the naan, was overcooked and overly charred. So far I haven’t found any Indian restaurant in Stamford that can touch either Rani Mahal in Mamaroneck or Tandoori in Port Chester.

I went to this place during lunch and it was mostly empty. The prices are reasonable but this is nothing like Indian food. It lacks flavor and different chicken curries taste the same. The quantity was good, but I could not even finish it, most of it was totally tasteless.

Great tasting Indian Pakistani food on budget in Stamford. So far I have ordered twice from this place and they have been very consistent. Now you can even sit inside instead of having an option of take out only unlike when they first opened up. Satisfied customer!

We were really craving Indian food and wanted to give this place a try. I wasn’t too happy about it after. I’ve had better and this didn’t have much flavor. The place was empty but the man who helped me was nice. I had asked recommendations for children and nothing spicy and he gives me the spiciest :/

The food can be great, but its hit or miss. The price is right, but the consistency is shaky at best. There seems to be too many different people cooking. It’s a shame, I really want to like it. I’ll try it again, with the hopes tha they find their groove.

I really wanted to give this place two stars since the owner is so nice, but it just doesn’t cut it. The worst«indian» food I’ve ever eaten, not even sure I would call it that. Flavours were so far off and just lacking. Weird layout/serving style, especially since it’s not buffet. Who wants to takeout food that’s been sitting in a warming buffet tray for who knows how long. It’s too bad, because that area really needs a good indian place.

Three very generous stars. The food off the steam table in the back was tasty but cold(I just read another reviewer had the same cold food problem). The rice was warm and fluffy… and quite good. Service was OK but not particularly friendly or helpful to this new customer. Overall the place has the disorganized look and feel of a restaurant that just finished a major lunch rush… which I doubt was the case here. The plasticware placed in my bag was dirty… not used… but it looked like it had been handled by someone who just read a newspaper. Lots of potential here.

In Stamford, where there are not many choices for Indian food, except for a couple in the downtown area, this place looks promising. I have been there once and tried their Masoor Daal and Chicken Tikka, and both were outstanding. The Masoor Daal is not the easiest to cook, and believe me I have tried it a few times at home and results were lacking even after consulting several youtube videos :-) The Masoor Daal from«Five Star» had the right consistency and flavor that I grew up with. The Chicken Tikka was also very well done and catered to my spice level. It was moist and came with bread which was also very good. I need to go back there more to check out additional items, but based on the first visit I have been impressed!

Food was amazing!!! Even though I only got a chance to taste the Briyani and chicken tikka masala, I though that these two dishes were very good and felt like real home cooked food. The customer service was very good and I enjoyed seeing an indian restaurant that didn’t have a franchise or standard feel, in other words it felt unique. Would definitely recommend it to friends and hope that everyone in Stamford gets a chance to try it.

What a disappointment this place is! I was excited to see an Indian restaurant back in the Bulls Head area, but this one is nowhere near the quality of previous ones. Located at the site of the late, lamented Stamford Fish and Seafood, the restaurant has been minimally renovated and is oddly unfinished and bleak, with no décor and harsh lighting. Although there are a couple of tables, its not a place where you’d want to have a meal. We tried Five Star for a take out dinner, ordering a array of dishes to test out the cooking. The proprietor was very sweet and accommodating, and even insisted on adding a generous free sample of one dish to our order when she heard us mention its name. But her pleasant attitude was not matched by the quality of the food. Apart from the heat in a few dishes, everything was very bland, lacking the array of intriguing spices I’ve come to expect in Indian cuisine, and most tasted as if they’d been sitting around all day. The samosas were dry and tasteless; the chicken tikka masala had a weirdly sweet sauce made with bell peppers and no cream, not at all like the usual preparation of this dish; and the bread was disappointing in taste and texture. Our two main courses were stone cold, even though we had only a ten minute ride home. Five Star serves halal meat, and may find some steady customers on that basis, but I think most locals have come to expect better when it comes to Indian food. I certainly hope for success for any new business, but unless this restaurant is able to seriously up its game, I don’t think it will last long in a location that has already been problematic for better offerings of this cuisine.
