Probably the best bakery on Staten Island, not that there are that many. Cakes and pastries are fabulous. The seeded semolina bread, off the charts delicious. The staff is alway’s very nice, and accommodating. They lose a star because they don’t offer a chocolate seven layer cake, with nice chocolate butter cream layers.

So I have never reviewed this place but it is a regular for me since 2011 when I moved to Westerleigh. I currently live in St. George and I still drive all the way there. On Tuesday nights my family has dinner at my mothers and I bring the dessert. its always from Alfonso’s. They have the best napoleon, they have a great location with parking all around it. I literally have tried every item here at one time or the other. They are clean and delicious.

Been coming to Alfonso’s over 20+ yrs –even after moving away! What brings us back? The peach melbas! Delicious! Still taste as good as they did back then! Also get other pastries & cookies for family when we visit the Island. Bread is very good too. Also the cheesecakes are good.

Sigh… where do I begin. I have fond memories of Alfonso’s from my childhood, mostly from their lobster tails and giant cookies. That being said, I hadn’t been here in 23 years, that’s until I decided to visit this past Wednesday. Upon walking in I noticed a lot of cakes, a huge display of butter cookies and a separate display off in the back that had some mini desserts, the lobster tails and cannolis. It’s unfortunate that you can’t get a slice of cake or a slice of pie, you have to buy the whole dang thing. Bummer, because my boyfriend and I really wanted to try a few of them. The girl behind the counter said only certain pastries come in small versions, which were in the further display case to the left. It was really hard to see what was in there, it was dark and almost nothing was labeled. How annoying it is to have to ask an employee what everything is individually and waste a good 20 minutes doing so. A lot of bakeries do this and it’s frustrating. Not wanting to ask a million questions, I decided to order a few butter cookies, a couple of chocolate covered pretzels, a chocolate cupcake and a tiramisu cup; I just wanted to try things out. Let’s get the worst one out of the way first, this so-called«tiramisu» It tasted NOTHING like tiramisu. What was supposed to be mascarpone tasted like some awful, melted cream cheese concoction that had some mystery spice in it. After cheesecake, tiramisu is my favorite pastry and I’ve had it a million times in a million different places, so I was horrified and confused with what I was tasting. On top of the«mascarpone» disaster, the ladyfingers weren’t even soaked in espresso, they were straight up dry… really you guys? I managed to find a small piece of lady finger all the way at the bottom of the cup that had a little bit of espresso. Craving the flavor that was missing, I ate that little piece and threw the rest in the trash where it belonged. I tried the chocolate cupcake next. The vanilla buttercream on top tasted good, but it was way too sweet, so it had to be taken off. The cake itself was just OK, nothing spectacular, it wasn’t dry but it wasn’t moist either. You can get better from a box of Betty Crocker mix. Next I tried the butter cookies. The chocolate sprinkle was good but again, the chocolate it was dipped in was sickeningly sweet. Overly sweet desserts and pastries take the fun and enjoyment out of eating them. Instead they hurt your teeth and burn your throat. The chocolate covered pretzels were the only decent things, but of course it was ruined again by too much sugar, which overwhelmed the flavor of the chocolate and the pretzel, such a shame. Kinda reminded me of Martha’s Country Bakery, which is not a bakery at all, it’s really a bag of sugar in disguise. To be honest, I’ll travel all the way to Ferrara Bakery for some real tiramisu in the future, and stick to Two Little Red Hens and Veniero’s for everything else. They actually care about taste and don’t dilute their pastries with sugar to save money on more expensive ingredients. It’s one thing to eat a lot of sugar from a big dessert, but you shouldn’t be getting diabetes from just one small bite. I think it goes without saying, I will never return to Alfonso’s.

Took a day trip to Staten Island recently to visit some landmark food places we heard about from friends. This happened to be one of those places. Walked into this cute little pastry shop and was pleasantly welcomed by a large selection of assorted cakes, pastries, and cookies galore. The staff seemed young and disinterested, but I honestly didn’t care because I was more interested in all the sweets. We got a small variety of things to try out(cannoli, rainbow cookies, flat wafer cookies, etc.) and everything was DELICIOUS. I wanted so much more but was full from having lots of pizzas at the nearby renowned Italian place we had dinner at, Denino’s(which was delicious as well). It was nice that there was outdoor seating in front, as it happened to be a gorgeous day when we were there. Prices are not too expensive on the small pastries, but I’m not sure about the larger items likes cakes and such.

World’s best cannoli and rainbow cookies! Alfonso’s been my go-to since I was a kid, growing up on the Island. The pastries are scrumptious, especially the cappuccino square. The bakery itself is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. Only problem is that the girls who work the register are quite impatient at times… that’s why four stars and not five.

The place is nice and big but no parking that we could fund around. Only CVS parking but hat is risky as cars get towed from those. We bought a cappuccino cake and not was delish! Unfortunate was not much a variety of desserts for such a large place.

Ive come here for the rainbow cookies and the pignoli cookies, they are out of this world. For the first time I ordered a birthday cake for my mother’s 75th birthday. They can make i the way you want. I ordered a cake with strawberry banana filling surrounded with chocolate covered strawberries. We celebrated her birthday at the Roadhouse. It was delicious, everyone complimented it. Especially my mother she said it was out of this world! I will be back again and again.

You won’t find a better bakery. I’ve never had the cake boss, but I know for a fact this bakery has the best cakes, cookies, and pastries in Staten Island. You haven’t lived until you try this place. No competition, hands down the best.

I have been coming here since I was a kid. They are a great mom and pop bakery that has thrived and survived thru the years. We have ordered countless fruit cakes and cheesecakes from them and they have always been excellent. More recently, we have tried the pastries and cookies — good too. Everything I have had here has a particular taste to it ie) cakes not overly sweet and just the right amount of fruit or chocolate flavor. Prices have gone up over the years, but the quality is still there. Alfonso’s is probably the best bakery on Staten Island.

I have done everything with this bakery from work here, to constantly eat ther goods, to having them make me a specialty cake. They are awesome. My mother and I have been ordering their amazing fruit tarts for every occasion and they have become a staple at in our home. Alfonsos also has great cannolis, breads and cookies. You don’t need to go anywhere else.

Awesome cannoli’s! After moving out of NYC and eating what people call cannoli’s in south FL, I forgot what they’re supposed to taste like. I picked some up at Alfonso’s before heading back to FL and damn! These cannoli’s are so good! I will definitely stop by when I’m in the area.

I will never forget(nor will many) the days after Super Storm Sandy. Our neighborhood, like many had no power for almost a week. All the stores along Victory Blvd had no power and were closed. Except Alfonso’s. Having cabin fever, I walked the neighborhood. I was hungry too. Alfosno’s was selling baked fresh bread — right out the oven. Steaming! Man, was that so good. Every time I look at the store, it brings back such nice memories. To think bread. ..

There is always something good to bring home when you go to an Italian bakery. At Alfonso’s Pastry Shoppe I wanted a box of cookies. I didn’t recognize what half the cookies were and the kind lady explained to me the names and descriptions so quickly I could not understand her. Time to brush up on my Italian and Staten Island beat! In any case, I got a few pieces of Brutti ma Buoni(the chocolate hazelnut cookies meringue) and the classic Pignoli. The Brutti ma Buoni was hard as a rock but had a nice bite. I always get fooled by this one as I always hope they’d crumble to a soft dough but nope, they are tough nutty meringues. The Pignoli was fresh and so delicious! I could eat a whole boxful! Sadly, they are $ 27/pound. In terms of pastry, the cakes and treats are sold as a regular size and a mini version. I got the mini Napoleon and Chocolate cream puff. Talk about good stuff! I’d say to just get the regular size. Mini is too small and only good for a tasting or a party box. I’ll be sure to make a return visit to Alfonso’s Pastry Shoppe. Their cakes look yummy and the bakery is not to hectic. There is no line to wait in despite the steady stream of customers.
