Used to be hands down the best Chinese food on the island, been a customer for over 20 years, in the past few years I went 3 times, it keeps getting worse and worse, last time the food wasn’t even edible, the drinks are still good, the food sucks, don’t know what happened, have to get back to basics and get the food back to the way it was or there will be no more jade island

This place was excellent. I came in with a party of 6. We were greeted and sat down immediately. The waitress was very friendly. Good was delivered in good timing. The food was delicious and I will be coming back to this restaurant in the future. Best Chinese on Staten Island!

Overpriced!!! We had a party of 20 people. 15 adults and 5 children. They told us it would be 18.75 per person. Kids under 9 would be half price. The waiter asked one of my guests if he wanted spare ribs. The guest said ok because he thought it was part of the pre fix menu. The waiter then brought out many dishes of ribs(which totaled $ 60 !!!) We each had a tiny cup of soup. One egg roll or spring roll drenched in oil and one vegetable dumpling, four entrees split for 4 people(which came out in very small portions) rice and at the end some blobs of cheap ice cream to share for our tables. The pictures of soda were $ 8 each. Our bill came out to $ 600. The tip was pre calculated for $ 100. This was not worth the price at all!!! It was crowded and we were better off going to an open buffet. I forgot to mention– the food was very salty and not good quality. We paid full price for the 5 children instead of half price like it was agreed upon. I am my group will never go to Jade Island again.

Old Staten Island standard. The food was good but we had to wait pretty long for it to come, 20 mins, and the place was empty.

My family has been coming here since it opened. We have loved this place for years and it is safe to say no other Chinese food on the island compares. My personal favorite is the wonton soup, so delicious! I’ve had various dishes and everything is good. The drinks are AWESOME too! This restaurant is good for everyone, couples, families, friends and everything in between.

First time I ever ate here and heard some goods things in the past. Brought my whole family and we were seated immediately on a busy night but that’s about all that went well. The waiter didn’t ask us what we wanted to drink and just started with appetizers. They were rude when we had questions about the menu and took forever to get our food. The food came out not hot and they forgot to put items in that we ordered. Will never go back again.

Went there on a whim and while the inside is cool the food and drinks didn’t do it for me. Food was super greasy felt like crap by the time i got home and oh lord were the drinks strong. Literally have like 5 sips and couldn’t drink the rest. Nice waiter though.

Jade Island is a Polynesian restaurant that should be given landmark status in Staten Island. I’ve been a patron for as long as I can remember from early childhood visits with my parent to taking my children Jade Island as a sit down restaurant has yet to disappoint. Service is always good and they are one of the few restaurants that still serve wonton soup with shredded pork and greens in the broth. Though the décor is dated(has changed much since it’s opening all those years ago), it has been preserved and well worth the visit for anyone with a tiki fetish. Food is affordable and the drinks are always well made(make sure you have a DD if you plan on imbibing). My only complaint has been their delivery food just doesn’t seem to match up to what I get in the restaurant. Maybe it’s the heat in the containers, the delivery time but I stopped ordering from them, otherwise as a sit down restaurant on SI, the atmosphere, friendliness and service is well worth the visit.

Food was eh. The dumplings tasted and looked burnt and the jade island mei fun had no flavor. The roast pork fried rice was okay but it’s been better from here. My husband got the Kung po shrimp and he wasn’t impressed either.

The food needs a lot of improvement there it’s not your usual Chinese food kind of place and not sure what kind of theme they’re going for you asked for one thing and the waiter pushes for something else wouldn’t recommend this place

Never judge a book by its cover. Jade island looks like the set from Gilligan’s Island. The look isn’t retro, it’s been this way since it was new. Food is fantastic. Drinks are excellent. Service is attentive without being overbearing. The place is a winner. Place gets crowded at peak times, so either go early, or make reservations.

This place takes me back in time to about 1969. Perfect nostalgia for a time when Chinese food meant chicken chow mein, egg rolls and ice cream for dessert. If you are a boomer, this is not your kids’ Chinese food. It’s your parents’ Chinese food. It’s Chinese Americana. The food is just as I remember it, circa 1969. The waiters look like they stepped out of a time warp. The dishes must be the same ones they’ve been using for 40 years. For anyone who grew up with this kind of food it feels like going home again. My father always said you could tell how good a Chinese restaurant is by it’s chow mein. Well this place proves that point. The chow mein tastes the way I remember it from my childhood. Ditto the egg drop soup, won ton soup, egg roll and shrimp with lobster sauce. I haven’t been in a Chinese restaurant that automatically puts duck sauce, mustard, and wide, greasy, crispy noodles on the table immediately in years. We loved it! The ambiance and accoutrements are all reminiscent of the 60’s and 70’s. Food snobs will recoil in horror but for anyone with fond memories of old fashioned«americanized» Chinese food this is nirvana. I haven’t seen a menu that has«choose one from column A and one from column B» in decades! Yes, I know this is not«authentic» Chinese food. I don’t care. I love this stuff, and if you do too, come on over to Jade Island and enjoy.

Amazing. This place has been a Staten Island staple for over 40+ years and has consistently maintained the décor and service. The drinks are fantastic and the pupu platter is a can’t miss. This one’s a winner!

You walk in and it’ll remind you of an old want to be Polynesian chinese restaurant. The food is ok, not the best. It’s very greasy and bland. They need to add some flair, spice and liveliness to the food. This restaurant has been here as long as I’ve been in SI…30+ years and nothing really has changed at all. Not even the shirts they’ve been wearing for decades, as well as the ambiance. I kid you not. The entire restaurant needs a makeover and the waiters as well. All waiters are male and they need to be more friendly and smile.

I’m a total dork. I wanted to ride the Staten Island express bus for fun. So when my friends and I wound up at the mall, one of us suggested Chinese. I kind of expected a small, takeout joint, but when he took us to the strip mall behind the big mall and I saw the sign that said«Cocktails,» I was like … what? We were instantly transported to the 1980s. A dark, spacious restaurant with a tropical motif, Hawaiian shirts, and sugary drinks— this is the stuff my parents wax nostalgic about! I admit, I was pretty impressed. I’m all about old-school stuff, even if it’s kitschy. The menu is small and includes your Americanized Chinese favorites, I had an impressive chop suey with a ton of veggies that wasn’t overwhelmingly salty. But… we have to talk about the fried noodles! Wide, fried, and easy to slide(into your mouth)… they were amazing, especially accompanied by the duck sauce. The food was good, but what makes this place about a 6 on the«Is It Worth the Trip Scale» is the décor. I really, really like it. I’d return!

Their fried wonton chips are exceptional. Watch out for their perfectly balanced sweet and sour dipping sauce for them, though, if you get it on your keno card it won’t go through the machine! As you can tell by the above paragraph, we were possibly over-served by our new best friend Johnny on a recent trip to Jade Island. And guess what? Each drink was as tiki as it gets: brightly-coloured sugar booze in ceramics with tiny umbrellas. If you like fun, corner tiki bars tucked into Chinese restaurants in parking lots in the suburbs, even for a lark, this place is for you!

This place is amaze balls. Not because the food is anything to write home about. But because you’re at a tiki bar on Staten Island, you’re drinking a a cocktail the size of your head, and you get pu pu platters with flames at your table. The 10-year-old in me can’t help but be impressed. True there are fancier tiki bars to be had but this one looks like a relic from the 50s, the staff is nice, and it’s not crowded. I had the Pineapple Paradise which was a delicious piña colada-ish drink.

«Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I wanna take ya Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go, Jamaica Off the Florida Keys there’s a place called Kokomo That’s where you wanna go to get away from it all Bodies in the sand, tropical drink melting in your hand We’ll be falling in love to the rhythm of a steel drum band Down in Kokomo» The lyrics from the Beach Boys«Kokomo» sum it up nicely. Every few years the whole Tiki thing comes back and thats the«underground» fad. This place has transcended many of them. It not some hipster place repurposing stuff to look old… it is old. Cant believe I havnt written a review about it yet. Strong, fruity drinks that people from all over the 5 boroughs come to guzzle. Still has that old school feel even though the front has been redone. Tony Bordain brought the Immortal David Jahansen(a S.I. native) here on a TV show. It upped the hip factor a tad but its still a hidden gem. Until me meet again: Hapa haole
