We’ve been here few times and there is always nice crowd, good food and cold German beer. The interior is authentic(enough) and the servers are dressed in traditional clothes. Overall great experience every time. Recommended!

I have never, ever, in my entire dining experience at Nurnberger had a bad meal. That’s a glowing review, but it’s absolutely the truth. In fact, I hesitate to even write this review, because more people will then go to this place and it will become crowded, and then I will have to wait to be seated. But, to be fair to Mr. Robert Kelly, the owner, and his whole staff,(the waitresses are absolutely wonderful,) this is probably one of the top three restaurants I’ve been to. highly deceiving from the outside, but boy, ask for their steak with Gorgonzola butter and ask for medium rare, and prepare to go to heaven! I also suggest you try their potatoes AuGratin as a fête’ complete, and if you still have room later, try the vanilla ice cream with their homemade raspberry sauce. Enough said. I am your favorite customer.

Great beer, great décor, hot waitresses, but unfortunately the consensus of our group was the food was average. Hopefully just a bad go at this place, and we will have to see what a future visit will be like.

We stopped in on a whim. The atmosphere was really nice. We started with the hot pretzels, moved onto Reuben’s and burgers, washed it down with beverages and finished with the strudel. The food was great. Service was excellent. We’ll have to try the Bierhalle side next time.

I really love the food and beer selection here. The service could be better, but it’s better than most places in Staten Island. Atmosphere: Its dark, lots of wood and a ton of German memorabilia. It’s a great date night place but we’ve also brought our kid here with us once too. Food: The snails are the best I’ve ever had! The mussels were great too. The burger that was voted no. 1 in NYC on the other hand, wasn’t anything spectacular. It wasn’t bad, but I wouldn’t call it the best in NYC. I’ve had some other things here that I can’t remember, so I guess they weren’t great. Oh well. The beer, it is GREAT! The selection is fantastic! Service: Sometimes I come here and it’s okay and other times I come here and it’s like they are stuck on island time. You know, the opposite of NYC time. It takes forever for them to acknowledge and seat me. Then it takes forever for them to take my order and to refill my beer… and that’s sometimes on days when they aren’t even busy. Overall: The food is great and the beer is great too. The service can be sketchy sometimes but nothing terrible. I’m still a frequent customer!

I am so glad this place is near me. This restaurant lightens up the neighborhood! There are two locations: a restaurant and a bar. Both have different feels. If it is a night out with family, go to the restaurant. The waitresses are very nice and wear a traditional German outfit. If it is a night out with friends, go to the bar. The burgers and fries are amazing. Make sure to eat the fries with their special mustard. The beer selection is great! So many flavours and brands That I never tried.

I was in the hospital with my wife having our third child and looked this place up on Unilocal.I was really glad I did. While I didn’t spend much time there I did pick up three meals — it’s authentic German, tasty, big portions and filling. The restaurant feels like the German grandmother’s living room(with a bar in it) and they also have a bier hall next door. The staff are friendly and helpful — it’s definitely one of the best German places in NYC!

I have been to this place located on Castleton avenue 3 times, I have been living on staten island for 11 years and all this place makes me think is «Why did I not think to try this spot sooner»? I came here twice in one week, and once another time and I have had such a great experience in every way. The food taste like a home-cooked meal and is so delicious. I recommend this place to everyone looking for a good place to eat in Staten Island. Goulash soup is amazing, Chicken schnitzel was amazing, the beer is amazing(a pint) and spaetzel was delicious. For an appetizer I had sausage once(also amazing) and the potato pancakes. Dessert was also phenomenal, I had the black forest cake once, and another time I had the raspberry peach cheesecake. The service is great and the vibe is perfect. It is an authentic German restaurant so they have the deer heads on the wall, photos, fireplace and they play german music also. Girls walk around in cute little german dresses and they turn my boyfriend on all the time because he hints that I should wear the outfit.(lol) I have a top three of restaurants to recommend when visiting or living in Staten Island and this is definitely up there now. If your curious 1. Phunky Elephant 2. Nurnberger Bierhaus 3. 1001 Café(hookah and latenight food) and I am adding a number 4 and that is Beso. =) Have a goodnight #yelpers.

This place is a cool Staten Island spot. If you’re looking for a real German vibe then I recommend it. The pretzels are medium sized and tasty. They come with a sweet or spicy mustard. The wings are spicy and meaty! They are messy, obviously, but good. The fried pickles are delicious. They come with a creamy sauce to dip. I do wish they were not the long pickles. I think pickle chips are a better fit to fry. The cheeseburger is very juicy and flavorful. It comes with fries that are crunchy and tasty. The missing star? The waitress. I went to an afternoon private party and she was very rude. She got insulted by a guest and left the party! The extremely hard working and friendly bar tender was left to waiter and serve drinks. After coaxing she eventually returned. I would definitely meet the wait staff before hosting a party here or just leave all the tips for the cool bartender :-) I noticed a similar complaint in another review so I hope the wait staff improves because this is a rockin spot!

Nice and clean. I liked to see the team in traditional German dresses. There were family groups and also people at the bar. Was not noisy. Liked the atmosphere.

A vast beer selection coupled with delicious heavy German cuisine. Don’t miss the pretzels to start. Their potatoes au gratin are among the best I have ever had. And their meats are all tasty as well. Come in, sit back and enjoy.

Wunnerful Wunnerful(Lawrence Welk). Lunch today was fantastic. Bratwurst with a sunnyside up egg and a ton of German home fries. Washed down with a pint, total bill $ 12 plus tax and tip. One minor complaint — no complimentary bread served. At Killmeyer’s you get a pretzel. I’ll be back.

Oh, c’mon! It hurts me giving my favorite place two stars. I love this place! The food is delicious, but whoever runs this operation should taken his/her head out of the improper place, because everything we have ordered wasn’t available things you would expect at a German restaurant — but we found it out when the food came already: no pretzels(because they are forezen) what?!?, no sauerkraut?!? — ran out… natürlich?!? No German chocolate cake — here is some store-bought cheesecake instead?!? What happend to that wine? Why did you bring that? I didn’t order that. Get your things together. I want this place run like a German railroad

Stopped in here today based solely upon the Unilocal reviews(wouldn’t have known it existed without it) and boy am I glad we did. This is a great little German Beer hall which is next door to a larger German restaurant immediately next door. I can’t say anything about the place next door because I’ve never been there, but this place is great. The menu is very limited. Just hamburgers, veggie burgers, wurst, chicken and turkey legs! Also a really great pretzel. The mustard is incredibly spicy… So awesome.(Use the yellow not the multigrain) My gf and I had the cheeseburgers on pretzel rolls. They are perfectly cooked. Absolutely delicious! Next time I need to order myself a Turkey Leg! Sounds very medieval to me! And the beer! There is nothing like German Beer. They have a great selection so relax and enjoy yourself. The space isn’t huge. It’s one long room with a few tables. But I think a very good crowd probably fills the place(or at least should fill the place) or a weekend night. Will I be back — yes, most definitely if I have occasion to be back in this part of Staten Island again. This is a great place to check out.

The atmosphere is a lot of fun, the beer was great but the food was hit or miss for me. Potato pancakes were really good, wurst appetizer also really good. I didn’t love the wienerschnitzel, I thought the breading was a little loose and the veal was a little overcooked. Spaetzel I didn’t love either. The sauerbraten was really good though, definitely worth a trip back for that. Service was slow also.

One thing Staten Island lacking, is good bars. I mean there are some, but they are few and in between. In my search for places that serve great beer and good food in my new ‘hood I found Unilocal listing for this German place… Hmmm, let me check it out, I thought. After a weird drive though the narrowest street you will find on the island and turning up right on Castleton, I saw it — windows brightly lit and lot of people walking in. Parking is not bad on side streets, and short walk is a breeze. Place is packed on any day of the week — and you know it usually be a sign that it is genuinely good. There is a formal sitting area on a back, but there is also tall tables and a long bar upfront. It does get a bit drafty in winter, but not too bad. Beer selection is solid, lots of good ones on tap. ~looks at dark tall glass of beer and swoons~ The food — THE food will blow your socks off. If you like German food, if you like simple stuff like sausages and potatoes done right — you must try this. My favorites are their Kartoffelpfannchen dishes — it’s a skillet with sizzling potatoes, crispy, golden, AND with bacon — just like my mom used to make. It’s topped with most delicious juicy sausage — there are several varieties to choose from. (I am getting sooooo truly hungry just typing all this) There are lots of appetizers too — herring plate was huge, and pretty good. Prost! I will be back — many, many, many times.

Ahhh beers and burgers. There aren’t too many other combinations out there better, and at Nurnberger Bierhaus you can indulge in both. I’ll start off by letting you know that this isn’t a typical Bavarian beer hall. It’s actually quite small and very intimate. Of course you can indulge in typical German fare and Bavarian beers such as Spaten, Weihenstephan, Paulaner etc. My friend told me that they got voted best burger in all the New York boroughs and being that I am a fan of burgers and was on the island, I just had to try one. Although it wasn’t on the dinner menu, our waitress happily obliged to serve it to me. It came out cooked medium rare with bacon and cheddar cheese. It was supreme. I washed it down with a half-liter of a delicious dunkel. Mmmmm I highly recommend this place for solid food. My only complaint is that the beer selection was severely lacking. First off, Spaten was advertised everywhere yet we were told that they were not serving it that night. This left roughly only 5 beers to choose from on tap. Granted they are not a typical beer hall with an endless list of beer on tap, I would’ve liked to have seen more variety. Then again, the only thing you really need to come for is the burger. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

As a belated birthday celebration, my brother brought me here today for lunch. This place is out of this world. Nurnberger Bierhaus has old world charm, a large assortment of draught beer and well over 30 beers in bottles. They even have German music playing in the background. No domestics here. We started out with our beer selection. My brother went with a pint of Spaten Lager. I am first and always a big Hefeweizen fan so my choice was the 6 liter Weihenstephan which is the world’s oldest brewery(founded in 1040). For an appetizer we split the pretzels, which is served with 2 types of mustard, one spicy and the other sweet. I probably could have made a meal out of this alone. The portion is huge and the pretzel was soft, chewy and a great price. For lunch, my choice was the kielbasa plate and my brother had the Nurnberger bratwurst. Both were served with homemade sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. The sauerkraut was a lot different than what I am used to. It was sweet, not the usual briny stuff you get on a hot dog. The food was very filling and the tab was under $ 30 for lunch for the both of us. We were lucky, we parked on Davis Avenue and walked ½ a block. I can’t wait to come back and try the Biergarten next door when the weather gets warmer. The waitress mentioned May 1st as the date it would be open. They serve food in the back with live music(German of course, and classic rock).
