My first time here as I’m not from Staten Island. Place wasn’t bad… not my scene or my type of ppl. Guess it’s cool if ur from SI. Sat @ outside bar which was cool. Drunk guy to our left played guitar for us(shoulda been cut off long ago). My girlfriend asked for a ketel club. Few minutes go by & my friend says she never got her drink & was gonna wait for the male bartender but I asked the female bartender for the drink again. No big deal right? We ask for our check & it has 2 ketels on it, to which I ask her if she had 2& she said she had only 1. I had wine which I paid for before hand. We tell the female bartender & she says well I made 2. I look at my friend. She said I only had 1. Bartender grabs the check, gets a manager to delete the second drink, then she slams the check back down in front us. Twice. Hope she didn’t hurt herself. Why is she mad? We wanted to only pay for what we had. She may have made 2, but my friend only had 1. Neither of us were gonna pay for her mistake. We are both in the service industry. Neither of us would dream of treating guests in that manner. Very disappointing. Well we won’t be returning there cuz of her little tantrum. Good luck with that!!!

This is such a beautiful location, I just wish the service could be improved! We walked in and asked to be seated outside, and were told that there was a private party happening and they didnt have any seats available. Throughout the rest of our meal, we saw at least two parties seated outdoors which were clearly not part of any kind of party. We ordered drinks while we skimmed the slightly overpriced options. It took a little time for the drinks to arrive, but not unreasonably long. They were GOOD. No cheaping out on the booze. I ordered the miso salmon, so did my husband, and my son had the rigatoni. A minute or so later we noticed other tables getting hot biscuits soon after sitting… we did not get any at all and had to actually request it. Twice. My son was not offered cheese or pepper for his pasta, we had to request that also. The food was pretty good, but really a little under-seasoned and a little overpriced. But definitely fresh. Then a man who seemed to be the owner loudly teased a waiter uncomfortably close to our table, which isnt a huge problem, unless, like this restaurant you are attempting to give the illusion of a higher class establishment. I might come back, or not.

Great location on the boardwalk overlooking the verrazzano bridge and Coney Island. Food great and it had a nice presentation on the plate. We all had different drinks but all were generously poured and bartender had some amazing house cocktails. We will be back again. Staff was great and even the manager Pete I believe was his name had no problem moving us to a table at the window to enjoy the view better just had to ask. Thanks.

Come for the location and atmosphere only. This place always disappoints and I always come back simply because they have a monopoly on restaurants on the boardwalk. I swear our sangria was 50 percent fruit juice. It was super sweet and I drank ¾ of the pitcher with barely a buzz. I made the dire mistake of ordering two sushi rolls. I don’t know what I was thinking expecting sushi from a non Japanese restaurant to be any good. I ate 3 pieces from both rolls and just couldn’t eat it any more. It was literally the worst sushi I’ve ever had. The wait staff could kick it up a notch in friendliness too. With that said, I’ll probably be back some time in the summer when I want to relax with a meal and drinks out doors and stare at the water. Why aren’t there any more restaurants on the boardwalk!

So I’ve been here a couple of times, what I like the best is that it’s really close to the boardwalk and beach which happens to be about 20 minutes from where I live. It’s no South Beach as it’s called but hey waves are waves and sand is sand lol sometimes you want that combination close by compared to driving an hour and a half for ok water down the Jersey Shore. Anyways, let me not sidetrack, the food is ok, I didn’t find anything extra desirable but I did like the Salmon and the fondue, the lobster and the clam chowder were good too but a bit too salty for my taste. I guess I like the atmosphere over the food, particularly they’re outside patio deck which during warm summer nights is fun to hang out, grab some drinks and dance a bit. Crowd is very versatile, saw older couples, to elderly couples, to mob wives with their mob hubbies lol, to younger people but not as much lol They do have a live DJ I believe either Fridays or Saturdays which seems to cater to the crowd mainly being Italan, and playing house, disco, freestyle, 90’s, and some reggae or reggaeton here and there. I would say this is more of a family outing or low key calm and chill place with friends that don’t expect a big party, overall the location is what does it for me. Staff could use some help since they seemed back up and tend to lose control over checking up on you. Once again 20 minutes away and a decent Ocean view along with drinks and music is enough to get me anywhere, will be back. OH and btw, they do have a hall next door which caters weddings and other events, that’s also a plus as well.

I’ve been here 2 – 3 times and never really thought much of the place, but this last time(Sept 5) definitely sealed it. Not going to visit South Fin again. The service was ok, nothing spectacular, except for what seemed to be a manager, who was very nice and provided table cloths for my daughter and friend’s daughter as they were cold. It took forever to get the food, which was frustrating; my friend’s daughter ordered a salad, which never came out. The food, at least my dish(salmon) was terrible. The lava cake desert seemed to be something that was frozen and heated up. Other than the atmosphere, which is nice since its on the boardwalk, i’ll likely never go back… there are many more restaurants at this price-point where I’d much rather spend money and at least get very good food. I don’t recommend South Fin, unless you are going for drinks and want to be on the boardwalk.

1 star for service, 3 stars for food. My family had a dinner reservation, we asked if we could have a table by the windows. The staff at first said no there was no other place to put us even though the restaurant was pretty much empty. The hostess and manager were pretty rude and unaccomodating. The food was OK in itself but really over priced. Do not get the lobster roll appetizer. Cold lobster mush in a cold old tasting bun. Would not come back here again.

My friends and our families came here Saturday night for my best friend’s birthday. We had a reservation for a party of 7. They have valet parking, which was nice considering the lots get busy on warm summer nights. Upon entering, I noticed the posted signs stating that you must be 25 to be on the deck, yet people had their babies on there. Isn’t this why you must be a certain age? Anyway. We sat inside. The décor was nice. Nothing out of the ordinary, but tasteful. Our waitress was nice, but difficult to understand. As it got later and the restaurant got busier, she was clearly very frazzled. It took her a while to take our dinner orders and her manager was visibly unhappy and made it clear to us, which seemed borderline unprofessional. When our dinner arrived, one order was incorrect, but she insisted on arguing that it was ordered wrong. Otherwise, everyone was pleased with their food. Some members of our party ordered the steak, which had a hefty price for a tiny steak. I’d like to chalk it up to them using grade A meat. I had he French chicken with cous cous and it was delicious. The appetizers were also yummy! We had mussels and clams, fried calamari, and crab cakes. I thought the food was delicious, a bit pricy though. They’re very clearly understaffed and it’s unfair to their wait staff because they’re not able to give their customers the best experience due to this.

Here’s one place where the atmosphere is better than the food. It’s too bad because I live right there! In the summer there’s music outdoors at their back patio which is lined with trees to block off the Main Street. You can dine indoors and if you’re lucky get a table facing the ocean. Anyway let see— I had the fried calamari which was the strangest I’ve ever tasted. A little greasy but had little pieces of stuff like green peppers etc which I feel didn’t belong. Not a great choice of sushi rolls but also nothing special. Whatever fish I had also was just eh the safest thing here is a burger for lunch. Dinner is a bit too pricy for my liking esp since the food is just passable.

Just moved to area and was excited to try this place. The location is beautiful. We decided to have a drink at the inside bar first to see if should stay for dinner. The drinks were ok. I ordered the Lobster Mac N Cheese bites. I should have known they came out to soon. I broke into them with the fork and they where sort of hard. They tasted cold in the inside. Like they had been sitting in refrigerator. Barely had any lobster in them. My husband send them back and I got a crab cake instead. It was ok. Barely any crab in it. You would think a seafood place would showcase their seafood. The atmosphere inside was older crowd. Like 60. Not their fault but that combined with the bad appetizers made go to dinner somewhere else. Won’t be returning.

Gave it another try, since we were hungry, and on the boardwalk. We ordered the margarita flatbread pizza and an order of fried calamari. The flatbread pizza was undercooked and warm, I mean the cheese wasn’t even melted. The fried calamari was all legs, no rings. We did advise the manager who bought us a round of beer. Food is just terrible. Such a disappointment, since the views are so pretty.

I love coming to South Fin Grill. Good food, great view of the ocean and the best service. The staff is always polite and friendly. Matthew the bartender is great. Helpful with drink selection and a cheerful guy. Don’t miss this place!

Awful. The food was good and the view was superb but I have never experienced a worse wait staff on the island. I paid $ 120 for dinner and they treated me like I was eating at Mike’s diner. And they brought the entrées out at different times and tried to make excuses which sent my blood pressure up even more. Don’t get me started on their cocktail concoctions there –tasteless and almost 100% alcohol. Trattoria Romana is a 5 minute drive away on Hylan Blvd and they are 5-star. Do yourself a favor and sacrifice the view for better food and perfect service.

*Warning the Manager Gary is very insensitive to handicapped patrons. When a customer didn’t want to have their car parked by the valet(having had items missing before) the valet said that they would have to park in the beach parking lot– yes even when there were a bunch of handicapped spots EMPTY.(And had we come 5 minutes earlier the Valet wouldn’t have even been there since we arrived at 11am, and he was just setting up) Yes– a Handicapped Tag holder. When the patron called inside– the person who answered the phone was very pleasant, and said she would connect to the Mgr. gary. Well, he proceeded to explain that for insurance purposes– incase you hit someone in the parking lot– the Valet must park the car. So let me get this straight– If they get into an accident in the parking lot with my car its ok? After he was very nasty– and he was told that 311 was going to be called since he wasn’t allowing patrons to utilize the Handicapped spots, who had Handicapped Tags. He said he would let the Valet know it was ok. Needless to say– we did’t park there, scared that something would be done to the car. The food was just ok. No coffee made at 11:25am? The waiter was very sweet and on point, although it took forever for our drinks. Had the group we were with not already there– we would have left. The Brunch was ok. $ 30.00PP– great selection.(That includes coffee and 1 drink) The serving station attendants were polite.

My fiancé and I recently dined here. I had the lobster tasting, it was very good. He had the tuna, he loved it. We split the mussels and clams also good. The atmosphere is nice. We asked for a table outside. The waiter was a tad slow at first but once he took our drink orders he was good about checking on us. I did notice though that a lot of the waitstaff is chatting and hanging out by their booth, which I don’t mind when you’re slow, but when you’re busy, work. The outside lounge blu is a nice change of pace for us. I’m 30 he’s 32 and I’d say the rest of the guests where 45 and older. So it’s a nice mature crowd.

I’m giving this place two stars but only for the décor/ambiance. The waiter served us water, disappeared for 15 mins. Then served us biscuits which were the highlight of the night, disappeared for 20 mins. Then our orders took about 30 mins. My boyfriend had the Italian burger which was tasteless and honestly the worst burger I ever tasted. Burger King has better burgers than this place. I had the salmon sushi. which was decent, obviously it’s hard to mess up sushi. However, the soy sauce was inedible honestly the saltiest soy sauce I’ve ever tasted. Disgusting. After the horrible dining experience we still had to wait 20 more minutes just to get the bill. Save your money just eat the biscuits and drink water.

I like to Unilocal them all, good and bad. I came here with a party of 13 and was expecting a fun fill night of drinking and eating. This is what the night started out to be, the apps were great and they came with plenty of sauces and dip that brought out the flavors. The menu really does cater to seafood and non seafood lovers which is great. However when dinner came, the night took a turn for the worst. My blackened swordfish was cooked well and seasoned great. However the other meals at my table were not, grilled seafood not cooked properly, which I found really awkward for a seafood restaurant. One of the dishes had a hair in wrapped around the vegetables, I understand that this happens, but the waitstaff did the right thing and took care of the situation right away. I could not complain about the service, our waiter(a nice man, black hair and glasses) took care of everything for us and was very accommodating. Over all this is a two star place. Nice for drinks and apps but wouldn’t try dinner here again. Properly priced but based on some slight problems I probably wouldn’t come back.

Like a dish, restaurants need to have the right ingredients to succeed. This place on has everything going for it: amazing location on the boardwalk, virtually no competition, a view and relatively high income population, yet they manage to stay below average. It starts with a terrible hostess that has this look on the face that she is doing you a great favor by talking to you, a need to call for a manager to get seated at the table you want. This is supplemented by only average quality food(please do yourself a favor and don’t order sushi), and an overall bad atmosphere that make you want to leave as soon as you seat down. Our server was a great guy though, trying to make the best out of the situation. In summary, if you MUST eat here — be careful what you order, but if you can avoid it — just walk on the boardwalk and have your meal someplace else. Solid 2 stars.

First time going here and besides the horrible repetitive music it is a nice looking place. First ordered the crispy calamari and that was not crispy and undercooked. Then I ordered the fish and chips, that was undercooked and soggy. They gave me a new order of fish and chips and the crust was crispy but the fish was still way undercooked. I asked for the check and left. Scenery is nice, waiter was a very nice guy and even admitted the food being undercooked. As for me I prefer not getting sick after spending money to go out and eat.
