Absolutely horrible experience — seems to be run all by inept teens — I assume manager was sleeping in his office — place is outdated, rentable skates were awful, and the actual ice is something that I would have in my backyard on a snowy, cold day. Never returning.

Today was the first time in over a decade that I’ve been to Clove Lakes to ice skate. My little sister who is 8 has never ice skated so I decided to bring her to my childhood rink. So much has changed I didn’t even recognize it. Upon walking in I had to fill out waiver forms for both of us. I was appalled that the teen handing out the forms was reading Tweets from Twitter to the girl cashier that had a lot of curses knowing I was standing there with a child. Then when I got to the register they only take cash and have no ATM so I had to leave and drive to the 7⁄11 to get money. I’m glad my parents warned me that the rink is now outdoors due to the bubble being damaged so I was prepared with hats & gloves. The boy that was doing the skate rental was friendly & helpful & didn’t lose patience while we figured out our sizes. Once we got out on the ice I did enjoy it being outdoors and you can see the park around you. I felt the ice itself was dirty and choppy. Certain patches around the perimeter were hard to skate on. There weren’t many people there at all, literally less than 10 which made it easier to teach my sister how to skate. The boy working on the ice was very observant and concerned everytime someone fell. Overall I wasn’t happy to see this Staten Island staple going downhill.
