On a Saturday, on our way across Kentucky on a motorcycle, we decided to randomly call it a day and stop in here. The sign on the door said that Sandy(the owner) was gone but that we could call her. So, we called and she said that she was 30 minutes away and the room rate of the only room available was $ 64 with tax. I wasn’t digging the pink exterior but it didn’t look too bad. As we waited for Sandy to arrive we witnessed people come and go, amongst the people staying were hikers and construction workers. Once she arrived, I asked to see the room first, she seemed to hesitate for a second and that got me worried but only for a second. It was ok, with the 70s like décor, I knew it wouldn’t be the Hilton. It included a small fridge, microwave, and a tv. I wasn’t ex actually sure what to expect from a «motor inn» but the room and it’s amenities looked the same a a normal hotel, minus the shampoo and lotion. For the price, it receives four stars but compare to other rated hotels, it’s probably a 2 or 2 and a half. It could use updates, towels and linens replaced and a good cleaning. Sandy told us about the surrounding attractions with include hiking trails, Big South Fork scenic railway, Barthell Coal Camp, and a diner just up the road. Since we had recently eaten and weren’t looking for an excursion, we settled in and walked to the Fastway Marathon for a few snacks and sodas. The county in dry so there is no liquor, beer or wine within miles, so byob. Was it worth what we paid? Sure. Would I have rather have stayed at the Hilton? No, I like seeing other parts of Kentucky and experiencing it like a tourist. This place actually reminded me of something from the movies, when they travel to a different country and stay road side inns and bed and breakfasts, several movies actually. One weird side note was when we were all tucked in bed and Sandy called and asked if we could move the motorcycle so that it would free up a parking space. Really?!

What a charming place! Our room — the pink room — was super clean and comfortable. The decorations and furnishings are clearly individually chosen and create a really unique guest room. Of course, the room was quiet and the bed comfortable, things you expect, but the charm of the place was such a great surprise. Unless you’re a chrome and glass kind of person, I recommend this motel 100%. It was a great stay at a very reasonable rate.
