Such bad delivery. It was late 15 minutes. The delivery guy made us pay 12 dollars for the delivery fee for no reason. The bag didnt even have enough utensils. The food was mediocre with high prices. The thai iced tea tasted like crap. Don’t order from here.

If you’re looking to leave the US for a bit, and not go too far, to get a great Chinese(?) light meal– this is it. Tasty dumplings, crazy flavors, soda cans that you can’t read and waitresses you can’t understand– boy I love this place! Somehow it all works. Great place for a date. Local Stony Brook university student favorite, so you know its good. Sylvester knows best!

Very delicious! Try the shrimp buns they are out of this world! Friendly staff, the pricing is a little over but not too bad.

I went there a few times. I was unsatisfied with their service attitude. Once dine in, only one other table is occupied but took us 40mins to get order. Once, we ordered on the phone. After 30mins, my boyfriend went there to pick up. They said there was no our order, then my boyfriend ordered in store again, but then they amazingly got it wrong and had to redo it. I was starving. It took more than 1 hour. Not going again.

Tried it for the first and last time. I had the twice cooked pork. It was like bacon and so fatty I couldn’t eat it. No flavor and dry, Worst dish I have had ever. When we got the bill I said this was so fatty she just laughed and said«Oh.» I would not recommend it.

This place makes really good Shanghai Soup Dumpling. I also like their Chicken Flat noodle. Most of the time they are pretty consistent, but once in a while they do mess up. Example: Soup is cold, dumplings are over steamed. Service is not so good and they charge way too much for drinks. With the lack of choices on the island, it is a good place to go if you are looking for authentic Chinese food.

Came here for lunch the other day… Small place, only about 5 tables in here. Came here on a Sunday lunch time and noticed that the lunch special is only Monday– Saturdays. We ordered a plate of soup dumplings, 2 plates of vegetable dumplings, a dish of shrimp with lobster sauce, and a beef dish. The beef dish was really oily… didn’t really expect it to be like that, ordered the wrong one. It was like $ 13 each for those 2 dishes and I didn’t think it was worth it for the price… Honestly think it’s better coming here for lunch special. Wanted to try the soup dumplings here because I’ve had really tasty ones in the city. But I didn’t expect much because there aren’t really good places in LI. And yeah… it was just ok. Overall, the food here was just okay… nothing amazing. Not good enough for me to come again. I was a bit disappointed.

Food was good but the workers in there are horrible. 5 of us at table. Ordered apps, pork fried rice and entrees. 1 entrée comes out 3 min after ordering. Then nothing for 20 min. Then 2 entrees come out. Then nothing for another 15 min. Still no apps. Total chaos.

Been here twice in the last couple of months. I had heard about it via Unilocal, and figured I would check it out. The dumplings do not disappoint. Tried two kinds of soup dumplings: pork and crab/pork. Both excellent, and very fresh. The pot sticker type dumplings were also very good. One dish that was a crowd pleaser with my family was the scallion pancakes with beef. The only reason for not giving the place 5 stars is that it is very small, and there are not many places to sit. If it is busy, they seem to have trouble keeping track of who comes in first to sit. That is a bit of a picky complaint, and not a big deal. The food is excellent, and I highly recommend checking it out if you can!

Since this place opened, I’ve been pretty happy to know that I have a place near home that I can get soup dumplings(xiaolongbao) at. They’re not unbelievably good, but they always hit the spot for me. The quality is consistently good, as long as you’re willing to wait a little bit so that your batch of dumplings is hot and fresh. I’ve had a couple other dumplings from there such as their shumai, and those decent too. The scallion pancakes are also a delight. As for the rest of their menu, they offer pretty standard(American) Chinese fare, a bunch of beef/chicken/seafood/rice/noodle dishes. The normal prices are actually on the higher side, so I wouldn’t really recommend them on principle. However, from what I’ve seen the portions are generally fair. If you wanted to get non-appetizer dishes, I would definitely recommend coming for lunch, when the prices are a little more reasonable. Another treat on their menu is the bubble tea, which has certainly improved through the years. The tapioca has become a very nice balance between chewy and hard, and the flavors are full-tasting to me. My only complaint would be that they don’t really give you a large drink size for it, but there’s not really much competition for bubble tea around unfortunately. I wouldn’t recommend coming here with large table – 4 is probably the maximum I can see fitting comfortably in here. The place ought to expand as it does pretty well, but I understand that’s not the most feasible thing at the moment. If there’s a wait, it’s usually not bad, but it can get packed for dinner sometimes, especially since it is so close to Stony Brook University, which has a substantial Asian population that frequents this place. Others might disagree, but I also find the service to be quite nice. The servers and bussers are usually pretty busy having to deal with so many tables, and they are willing to accommodate you however they can. Some might not be used to the rather open style of the restaurant… by this I mean it would not be unusual to raise your voice a little bit to flag someone down, or just reach across the counter from your seat, but I guess that might be a cultural thing.

Every time I walk through the door, I simply KNOW it’s going to be good… VERY good. So here’s the skinny. 1) Do NOT bring 20 people here. It’s a small place, suitable for groups of no more than 5(and that’s pushing it). The tables are small, and the place is usually full during mealtime hours. If you’ve got a big group, do takeout, or go somewhere else. 2) DO order the soup dumplings… They’re the best I’ve been able to find anywhere on the Island. Others try, and others fail. THESE are perfection. But wait a few minutes before you pop one in your mouth, otherwise you’ll burn your lips off. Pick them up GENTLY by the top, and consume in one bite. It’s full of HOTSOUP, so think before you eat! 3) I strongly recommend trying some of the more unusual dishes. You won’t be disappointed. PORKTHIGH is simply AMAZING, and so is the«Ground Pork over Soft Steamed Egg»(which is actually a spoon full of ground flavored pork on top of an amazingly light fluffy custard-like layer of egg, which hovers over a broth that’s flavorful and delicious). I always leave with a take-away order of my favorite, MAPOTOFU(YES, I’m a carnivore, and YES, I love this stuff!) The wife doesn’t so… it’s lunch the next day for me! The dim-sum menu is nice too, but make sure you don’t fill up on just dumplings! Go for the Spicy Pork wrapped in Scallion Pancake. Yum! Service is friendly, if sometimes random. Your food will come out in the order in which it became ready — so expect things to show up in unexpected order — but that’s cool, since it’s all about grazing and sharing. Try some bubble tea while you’re waiting.

This place is a gem. It’s not even close to your average Chinese take out. The steamed pork soup dumplings are amazing. It is worth a trip here just for that. Fortunately, everything else is good too. Beef flat noodle is really good(pro tip: ask for it spicy). I have not tried any if the bubble teas, so I can’t speak for that, but I haven’t had anything I haven’t liked yet! Update: the Kung Pao chicken is outstanding. Easily the best I’ve ever had.

We ordered only two entrees to go, cost us for 30 dollars. And most furiously, they don’t even provide free rice. Then we have to spend extra 2 dollars just for a box of rice. And more furiously! We didn’t found out they forgot to give us the rice until we got home, so we have go to back to red tiger just to pick it up.

The first time here was during lunch hour and that was a hot crowded mistake. Don’t go during lunch hour. The second time was later in the afternoon, plenty of seats. I ordered the broccoli chicken with brown rice and my husband ordered kung pao chicken. We both felt the chicken was overcooked and tough. Mine was super salty. They gave us a plastic dentist style swish cup of water for something to drink– a little weird and slightly gross. Everything was served in to go plastic without the lids, so you can’t even put the lid on it and go. It’s pretty wasteful and not really eco-friendly. I don’t mind take out but I’m not cool with eating out of take out food containers while I’m sitting in a restaurant. We went to pay the bill and our server had a discussion in Chinese with another woman then handed us another bill for a few dollars more and didn’t explain why. When we asked she just smiled and said«it’s okay.» What does that mean? No, it’s not okay. I wonder if I can get away with that… Bah, just go to a real sit down restaurant that has more pride in running their business like a restaurant and actually has good food.

Stony Brook sure has changed in the 20 years since I’ve started visiting there. When I first came, it was bar food and American fare with no ethnic cuisine to be found. Fast forward and now they have authentic Chinese dumpling houses off campus. The dumpling offerings are extensive and you should stick to them. Other offerings are just so so. My favorite is the pork and leek(old school) but other versions were also quite good. Quality is on par with those dumplings found in Flushing. Prices are affordable and geared towards students. Nice option in the area.

I visited Red Tiger for the first time tonight. I was surprised to see all of the tables full, and a few people waiting, with only 30 minutes until closing. All of the customers seemed happy and the overall vibe was comfortable and very welcoming. I spent a while browsing the menu before asking the man behind the counter for help. He was extremely gracious to help me make a decision of what to get, and I went with his recommendation — pork soup dumplings and spicy pork scallion pancakes. My total came to $ 13.00 with tax. It took about 15 minutes for my order to be freshly prepared, and I was on my way. I was very happy to find only chopsticks in the bag, and not a fork! The food was fantastic — the dumplings had the perfect amount of broth and meat, and the flavor was great. Using the dipping sauce enhanced the flavor perfectly. The scallion pancake with spicy pork was a great balance of flavor and heat. It was a little greasy, but still very good. Overall, I was very satisfied with the meal, atmosphere and service. I look forward to returning with a fellow foodie to explore the menu more and dine in!

I want to like this place. I would want nothing more than a nearby restaurant serving juicy soup dumplings! This is a perfect location and I would be their fanboy in a heartbeat. But sadly they just don’t meet the standards. I know… I grew up on Chinese food. I am spoiled and it sucks. Now my rating should reflect the local selection, but I can’t rank their food higher than some of the other Chinese restaurants such as 1089 noodle house and Yaos diner. They offer dishes that are truly unique to this area. Their soup dumplings are adequate but underwhelming. The steamed vegetable dumplings are not very good. I hold this dish to the highest standard bc it is very challenging to make and I fail each time. Together we fail together. The scallion pancakes are below average. The one great plus was the garlic stir fried shanghai veggies. Yum! Crisp and tasty. Sadly they didn’t have Chinese broccoli nor baby bean sprouts. I would come back. I would revise my rating too. I’ve been told their lion head meatball is very good. I should also try their beef noodle soup, the champion of all Chinese cuisine. I doubt they would beat local competition which is probably 1089 noodle house, but even theirs leaves much to desire.

Oh yeah! Crab and pork soup dumplings has got to be one of mankind’s greatest creations. While in the area on business, I checked Unilocal for places to eat when I came across this place. As I entered I was greeted and seated right away. It’s a really small joint and has a strange setup but I didn’t really care. I do care about the dumplings and this place makes a decent one. The dumplings came out piping hot and the broth was flavorful and delicious. They also have a wide variety of teas that they make but I settled for the good old fashioned, authentic, And well renowned Snapple Iced Tea. If I’m ever in the area again, this will be my go to spot every time.

Great dumplings. I definitely recommend the pork soup dumplings, pork/shrimp shumai, and the pan fried pork dumplings. They make it by hand so it is worth the wait. They also have the bubble tea so together with the food you will feel like you are in a small NYC Chinatown spot on Mott Street. Staff is quick, but there is some communication issues, ie, some of the staff in training doesn’t know English. Never fear though, their menu has the dumplings and the pics… when in doubt; point out what you want. Dumplings are great, but don’t forget to drink a lot of water or the salt and msg will slow you down. Last bit of advice, get there early, the place gets packed!
