The A5 wagyu beef with black truffle is the best dish! The beef was perfectly cooked with sufficient amount of black truffle on top of it to make the flavor go into the meat– juicy, fresh and tasty! Can’t miss it!

Honestly, some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. The yellowtail, oysters, & toro are all to die for!!! & the wagyu literally melts in your mouth… I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! Nothing fancy about this place, but the quality of food and service is exceptional. If you’re a real sushi lover, you’ll love this place.

If you love sushi, this place is a must try! Driving by this place you would never know that there is a fine sushi restaurant inside such a basic strip mall. Yet once inside, you will be absolutely wowed by the quality of the fish, the food presentation, and the service. Everything from the beginning to the end is perfect, including the desert. The chefs prepare the fish perfect and will put all the necessary sauces on your fish to extract each dish’s unique taste profile. We’ve tried many sushi restaurants not only on Ventura Blvd., but across the city and I must say this ranks high on the list with the best. Do note please, this place is not cheap. This is not your 50 different rolls smothered in spicy mayo type of place where you eat a few rolls and your full and your bill is cheap. This place will set you back a few hundred bucks. But if you know sushi, you know this is what the price is of a good one.

Good quality, pricey, easy to get in at lunch joint. The sushi options are plentiful, the prices are on the high side, but it is likely due to their location. I would come back when craving good quality sushi, although, Sugarfish is a closer option now for me, so that will limit how far I am willing to go for quality.

Completely irritated …2 time run in with Valet… first time parked before Valet time and valet actually came in and disturbed us in the restaurant in the middle of a very expensive meal to tell us we had to pay 4 dollars for parking. 2nd trip to restaurant attempted to park my car with my dog inside asked to self park and I would move my car if they needed me to and valet would not let me park! Called restaurant manager who told me that he would talk to valet after they close… so after driving around the block 10 times just to be able to get in the parking lot, the restaurant and valet did not see me as a valued Patron!!! So not happy and still starving!!!

Unbelievably creative food and top quality sushi. I highly recommend the oysters with caviar and the sautéed shiitake with asparagus. What a delightful meal!

The best sushi in LA. Hands down. I’m a sushi snob and this place is my go-to spot. I almost didn’t want to leave a review because I want to keep it a secret!

Omakase, course B: (If you can’t eat or won’t eat something let em know!) Out of this world! –monkfish with grapefruit dressing –halibut w/truffle shaving in sweet ponzu sauce(WOW!!!didnt know fish tasted like this) –lightning fish tempura with lemon/pink salt –sea bass miso soup(just because it’s sea bass!) Yum! –cold egg custard with sea urchin/wasabi –chef arugula salad with veggies n dried persimmon –Kumamoto oyster, blue fin toro/spinach, kanpachi plate(the spinach was a different add, toro could have stood on its own) –skillet scallops with mushroom(lil heavy on sauce but I’m getting quite full by now) –sushi plate(toro, mackerel, cuttlefish, skipjack) Ok –pork and veggies skillet w/garlic chips(pork good quality. Well executed. I’m really full now… Just not epic enough) Not my cup of tea –Japanese conch with mushroom and quail egg(GORGEOUS. Really is. Broth is DELICIOUS too… I just don’t think I like the texture of conch personally)

Tried their Combo B? The middle one in their omakase, and absoultely loved it! A LOT of food for a girl of 102lbs, but I would definitely go again and try other combos. I’ll post pictures shortly… I think it was about 8 – 9 dishes(dessert not included). I sat at the sushi bar politely asked if there would be uni(I’m an uni fan) in the dishes and the sushi chef put uni on almost all the dishes! LOL

Best sushi I’ve had… Ever. Fresh and incredible. The Golden eye sashimi was unbelievable and the grilled(or baked) cod was money. We just kept ordering cause each dish was excellent. We had the pleasure of chatting with the chef Mark and we met his wife and they were both incredibly lovely. Coming back to this… Probably this week. Service was on point, fast, incredibly helpful. Best sushi. Ever. Legitness.

*The food was amazing no doubt, but the management was horrendous. I wouldn’t come back after the shit they pulled, but the food was so good, I’ll give it another try. –THESTAFF We did not call for reservations, seeing that there was no OpenTable, thinking it wouldn’t be very fancy(which the restaurant itself isn’t very fancy, but small and ordinary); but on arrival, they gave us a table with a time frame of an hour and 30 minutes which gave us plenty of time to dine. At the beginning of our meal, the food was flying in fast, and the servers were very accommodating, but then dishes got slow at the end, and when there was a mistake on our receipt, it took them longer and longer to change the many mistakes they made. The manager wasn’t apologetic at all, after making us wait on him. –THEFOOD We had the Sushi Omakase«A» course which is $ 85.00 per person(two persons $ 170.00), and on the menu it said we had the option of two appetizers and a soup of our choice, we felt very rushed so we just picked one item each, and they charged us for both our appetizers(Yamaimo fry $ 8.00) and soup(Mozuku $ 7.00) The«A» course came with a variety of 12 pieces of sushi and the dessert of the day. The food was not very fastidious and seemed predictable when glancing at the menu; however, the level of execution and balance of flavor and texture of most dishes were impeccable. I haven’t had a lot of experiences with Michelin rated Asian cuisine, and it seems that despite the culinary diversity in LA and the growing attention to Asia’s flavor, the region’s food has not quite caught up to the dining scene in the city. None of the sushi that was served fell flat, but the Japanese yuzu sorbet tasted a bit on the sour side, and I thought it would’ve been a perfect end-dish if not for that sour seasoning. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — - They charged us an extra $ 100 after taxes and additions and we caught the mistake, it took them about five minutes to correct the mistake which I thought was very unprofessional on their part, and I think they tried to make up an excuse saying they confused our order with another table when in fact it was an exact $ 100 addition. I don’t want to make assumptions but, maybe they didn’t think we’d catch a glimpse on the receipt, and just blindly pay for the meal.

I usually don’t have sushi in the valley, but I was very surprised as to how good this place was. I heard that the owner was a chef at matsuhisa previously. They have really quality fish and a great menu which is very seasonal. They have a lots of dishes with truffles which I love as well as A5 waygu. I came later in the evening and chef Hiro took care of us. He recommended a few dishes and his opinion was very helpful as the menu has lots of different options. He told us to get the sea bass lettuce cups and the Brussel scallops. Very good recommendation they were excellent. The Brussel scallops were seared Scallops on a bed of Brussel sprout leaves with shaved truffles. He prepared some sushi which was also great. I did not try dessert but it looked very good. Will definitely return.

Bluefin tuna nigiri: 3.75 The meal kinda ended after nigiri. I guess I was expecting something sweet or what not at the end, like a tamago, blue crab hand roll, ice cream, or even fruit or hot tea. So that part was a bit of a let down.

Sticker Shock — lunch out the door was just under $ 100 and that wasn’t even the Omakase! Had several items: Engawa Fresh Octopus Kinme Tai Albacore Belly Orange Clam Kanpachi Anago Kohada Aji and my secret weapon [way it prepped] Uni Each piece was elegant with the perfect amount of rice the garnishes and appointed sauces did not over well the flavor of each piece of fish. I was pleasantly surprised how much I’d enjoyed the Aji aka Mackerel that was flown in from Japan, it was not strong in flavor very delicate. All honesty each piece was incredible. It is a very expensive place thought lunch would be less compared to the dinner Omakase but no difference I could see myself going back for a major celebration along with a driver

Top-notch fish, friendly low-key service. This was a highlight during a week of searching for the most inventive dishes made with quality fish. We ordered the Omakase A($ 85) and a la carte dishes. Cutting straight to the chase. –tomato appetiser(mushy tomato, great jus. I’m not a fan of tomato so you may differ) –kelp and enoki(perfect tang, acidity) — warm Brussel sprouts salad with seared scallops and shaved white truffle(Incredible) — agadeshi tofu(what you’d expect) — hamachi with seaweed(great flavour, interesting textural combo) — toro tartare with caviar(a little sweet, not as flavoursome as I imagined) — cod lettuce wrap(second best dish) — sea bass miso soup(really great) Sushi — uni was standout(Santa Barbara origin: Hokkaido origin only in winter they say) followed by toro radish maki and white fish Overall a good meal. But among recent experiences, Zo still holds the top spot.

3.5 stars. I had mixed feelings about this one. 3 stars for their omakase and 4 stars for their a la carte. I ordered the omakase while the hubby ordered off the menu so we got to experience both. They used to have a Michelin star way back but I can see why it got stripped away in current times. The omakase can be pretty pricey here at $ 150 per person while the a la carte is a way better deal. It’s wierd. THe omakase mostly consisted of soups, salads, appetizers, and hot dishes and didn’t incoporate any Nigiri! It was one of the worst omakase’s I’ve had to date and you don’t feel full at all whereas I felt stuffed after eating omakase at Sushi Zo. However, their a la carte menu consisted of fresh fish that was flown directly from Japan at VERY reasonable prices. The sushi was very fresh and they had unique fishes as well that you would usually find only in omakases. Hence, the mixed feelings about this place. TIP: SKIPTHEOMAKASE. TRUST~~ GOSTRAIGHTFORTHEMENU

The service here is impeccable. Everyone is so nice and helpful — EVERYONE! From the moment you walk in until you leave, you’re taken care of, including having the door held open for you by the waitstaff when you leave. The stars here are really for the food. It is really more a matter of value than quality but the latter had some issues. We started with an order of the spiny lobster soup($ 7), the rock shrimp tempura($ 12), blistered shishito peppers($ 9) and a variety of a la carte sushi($ 99). My thoughts on each of these: Spiny lobster soup: Good. They should put the meat pick next to the order so we can easily get the meat out. When one of the waiters saw my friend struggling, he brought it over and advised her not to try to crack the shell with her teeth. Haha. Rock shrimp tempura: This was just OK. I prefer whole shrimp. It was nicely fried and served with an interesting sauce. I’m used to the typical tempura soy dip but the dip for this dish was very tangy from vinegar. There was a sprinkling of some kind of salt on the dish but it wasn’t memorable. Blistered shishito peppers: These were delicious but I wish they had a little bit of heat on them. Served with bonito shavings on top, the peppers are seasoned with soy and sesame oil flavors but there was ZERO spiciness to the dish. Sometimes, it can be a little spicy near the stem of the pepper but these had no heat at all. Sushi: Collectively, we had one or more orders(two pieces per order) of salmon, salmon roe, uni, halibut, kanpachi, unagi, and snapper. The total was 12 orders of sushi. Some of the prices were steeper than places like Sushi Gen in Little Tokyo. The quality of the salmon roe, uni and kanpachi were great. The unagi was thin and kind of hard. Snapper was from Japan but not the typical Japanese snapper I’m used to having. Salmon was just OK. The rice was pretty bad. It was cold and hard. There were residual bites of rice after each piece which is not a good thing. I probably won’t be back. It’s a small and intimate space but I have had much better sushi for better prices elsewhere.

I came here for a work lunch and everyone was so disappointed by the food that we had to eat a second lunch after! We’re all from Hawaii and know what good sushi tastes like. Unfortunately, this was not it. We had a pretty large group and everyone ordered a wide variety of items so I can’t say that it was only one dish or another that was subpar. Overall, I was unimpressed with the quality of the food. The rock shrimp was the best of our appetizers, the salmon poke was mushy and tasteless, and the sushi rice was old. I ordered the kobe steak. It came with a dollop(seriously, a dollop) of mashed potatoes and maybe about 3 thin slices of bell peppers. The steak itself was also tiny and the taste was only okay. It wasn’t bad, but I couldn’t justify the price($ 35) of the dish based on the taste. The service, on the other hand, was attentive and everyone working was polite. I gave an extra star for that, but for food alone, I think I’d have to go with a solid two stars. I’m hoping this was just an off day.
