Drones Plus

Short version: I would not hire Drones Plus again for filming. First 8:00am shoot I booked (through Justin) the operator Adam Maltz didn’t show up at all. Then Maltz blamed me and the company. At 10:30pm the night before the second attempt he contacts me saying that he didn’t file the paperwork in time for the insurance to go through and twisted the story to try to make me feel like I was getting a favor. Then the next day he was 30 minutes late, had multiple problems with the Inspire drone, lost signal a lot, always tried to be the cinematographer and critiqued my ideas, and called me «boss’ throughout. It pissed me the fuck off. The whole time I felt like I was begging him to let me hire him to pay him to do his fucking job. And he texted me PARAGRAPHS, AS LATE AS 11:25pm the night before the shoot — for real, pertinent shit that if I didn’t respond he wasn’t gonna show up. AVOID ADAM MALTZ. Probably other operators are fine, and the store is cool, I don’t know, never went there, but I’m so glad it’s over with, straight up nothing but a 2 week headache for me.

Longer version:
My situation was pretty simple, honestly. I needed some aerial footage for a small budget art film. I contacted Justin in mid-​January and set it up: price, location, drone type, insurance, etc. The following day I was contacted by the operator Adam Maltz that was assigned to do my filming. We spoke once and confirmed the time and location. The filming day rolled around and I was feeling a little anxious about the details (I needed to make sure they had added my client to their insurance policy, the meeting place was a private road, etc.) so we were all on the same page. I also had a few people that were traveling a great distance to get to the shoot at 8am. I called Adam the night before the shoot, no answer, left him a message and a text. I called Drones Plus, no answer (during business hours!) and left a message.
The next day Adam did not show up. I called him countless times, I called Drones Plus twice. Finally 30 minutes after we were supposed to have begun filming he texts me back saying that it was my fault, that I hadn’t clarified with him that he’d be there. I couldn’t believe it, I was livid, this guy literally was blaming me for trying to hire him and pay him for his job. I call Drones Plus later that day and left another message.
Guess who calls me the next day and tells me a HUGE LONG story about how terribly organized the office is and how it wasn’t his fault? Yeah, Adam f*****g Maltz. He goes on for minutes without letting me speak, I’m in the grocery store super getting food, super hungry and I want to be like, «Dude, that sounds terrible, I changed my mind, you guys sound like a terrible company to hire.» Probably should have. So he PROMISES me everything was a mistake before and now it’s going to be cheaper for me (actually this is also a miscommunication too because the «discount» was actually the original quote!!!). Whatever, I need to get this footage ASAP. I tell him I was pissed and needed to talk to the drone coordinator or his boss before we go any further and he says «I’m the outside drone coordinator»! I could not believe it.
So we set up our second attempt and finally Justin calls me back and apologies, he says they’ll give me an hour of free filming. I ask if I can work with another operator and he says he’ll try to figure it out. This doesn’t happen — and I think if it had, everything would have been better.
The night before the second attempt (exactly a week later) I get a text from Adam Maltz at 10:30 pm saying that he wasn’t able to get the paperwork done for the insurance liability. He goes into a massively long tangent about how it’s a pain in the ass for him, how he never had to do this before, how silly I sound, how much of a favor he’s doing for me. The whole time «I’m thinking, why is he detailing his failure so much, it’s really unbecoming of both him and the company.» It was a massive headache. I wrote and deleted many harsh comments before I sent them that night, I was again livid with this guy. All I wanted was to pay him to do his job! For christ’s sake. At this point I have no faith that things are going to go smoothly on the day of the shoot. I have doubts whether he’ll show up, if he has the paperwork, if he’s competent, etc.
Day of the shoot: he shows up 30 minutes late. He can’t figure out how to make the controls work with the iPad. He constantly blames the GPS for losing control. Basically, he’s never at fault, he can do no wrong, and you gotta believe him. We waste at least an hour in total trying to figure out what’s going wrong with the drone multiple times. He thinks that me wanting to film the ground is a terrible idea and literally moves the camera and tries to «make the shots better», his words.
In closing, maybe Drones Plus is a decent company who hired an incompetent, unprofessional, and terribly pesky man named Adam Maltz but I am not going to test this theory

After doing a firmware update on my DJI Phantom the tilt on the camera stopped working.
I went into the store and they were able to fix the issue at a great price. Thank you guys! You were great. The staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Highly recommend Drones plus if you have an issue with your drone or if you’re looking to buy one.

I really don’t like there efficiency because I’ve gotten use to other companies giving me the run around, I probably won’t ever go there again unless I run out of time and don’t want to be given great services.

These guys are awesome! Took my drone in after a mishap flying over the LA river. Spoke with Jordan on the phone and was quoted a more than reasonable price to have it looked at. Once I took it in they throughly checked out my drone and even updated my firmware. Customer service was great and the staff is really nice. Definitely going to be referring friends their way and stopping by soon!

I was worried about everyone’s problems with DJI customer service when I crashed my Phantom 3 pro. It caught a branch and fell 5 stories onto concrete. Luckily I had prop guards on but the impact damaged 2 or 3 of my motors and my shell was unaligned. I called in before to check if they were busy and they said they had a couple repairs ahead of me. I was planning to drop it off and pick it up the next day for my road trip to wa from la. When I got in they said they can fix it in 20 – 30 minutes. Went around the plaza and checked out some of the other shops. Drone was fixed they test flew it in their cage and I was good to go. The repair was fairly cheap. at least from what I expected. The motors were the old version at $ 30 a pop and $ 40 one time service charge.

I came in to spend over 1500 on DJI phantom and accessories… I was using my debit card as credit since my daily debit limit was $ 1000. I was told I cant??? «If it’s a debit card has to be processed as debit»… WTF??? Where did you guys come up with a bullshit policy like that… you can use your debit card as credit anywhere!!! Your selling technologically advanced items yet your Merchant processor is archaic… it’s 21 century… time to upgrade your system…

These guys are great! Very helpful, very accommodating and very knowledgeable. They were a big help on set and were quick to troubleshoot any problems we encountered. We recently had a mishap with one of our drones, so I brought it in and Andrew fixed it in no time flat.

Called Drones Plus looking for a replacement power cable for my mini quad. They didn’t have the part I needed for sale, but they did have a DOA version of the same mini quad on-​hand. I came into the store expecting to hand over a few bucks for just the cable, but instead, Justin hooked me up with the whole unit. A few hours later, I’m up and flying again.

Drones Plus is the go-​to shop for anything you need in the drone industry. They have all kinds of RC quad copters, ranging from $ 30 to $ 3,000+. When you go into the store, try to exclusively deal with Justin. He’s always exceptionally kind to customers and will treat you with the utmost respect no matter how much experience you have with the products they sell.
I personally try to avoid Andrew however, and will not do business with them if he is the only employee around. He has been extremely rude to myself and other customers every time I’ve visited the store. It seems like he’s really stressed out all the time, and he doesn’t have much patience with anyone. This store would be a five star retailer if all of their employees were as kind and professional as Justin.

Purchased a DJI Ronin a few weeks ago from an authorized retailer, had issues from day one while on the shoot. Took it back to them but they were not able to fix the issue, referred me to DJI Ronin, but they had a 2 – 3 week back order on repairs. DJI Ronin sent me to Drones Plus and magic happened. Andrew was able to diagnose the DJI Ronin quickly, and tell me what was wrong, helped solve the problem. Andrew really knows what he is doing and I would recommend coming back to them anytime.

The guys were so helpful and gave me level of comfort and professionalism that made me take the leap and buy a drone. Their knowledge and passion for cameras and flying drones are unmatched, I’ll never shop anywhere else for drone stuff!

Stopped in for my first visit this evening and met Adam and Doug. I had purchased a Phantom 3 through a 3^rd party retailer and I was having problems with the gimbal. They were both very friendly, personable, informative and educated me know how to operator and correct my error. In fact, I would have probably sent my drone back in the mail unnecessarily, but they saw the problem and fixed it immediately.
I actually cannot remember the last time I stepped into a business and was so quickly helped and had my needs addressed. I look forward to turning to these guys for help in the future and to doing business with them. Such an awesome experience today!

Came in here to check the place out as recently I’ve been thinking about learning how to fly and eventually buy a Drone but unfortunately the store was broken in that morning.
I walked in and told the guy at the counter that I don’t know anything about drones so I’m not going to buy one that’s over $ 1000 just to crash it within the first 24 hours. I asked if it was possible to try one out in the practice cage but the area was closed off as it was still a crime scene so I would have to come back at a later time.
In the mean time they asked what is it about drones I liked. I told them that besides recreational purposes (remote controlled helicopter with a camera) I am a freelance PreVis artist and actually thought a drone may come in handy when doing work. At that point they suggested that sine I couldn’t try one out since the police have been it inspect the crime scene area that look into trying out an Estes Proto X nano quad copter as its only 30 bucks and a good way to learn.
A couple of weeks later… I’m having so much fun with my nano drone that even though I don’t consider my self an expert pilot by any means, I do know where I will purchase my next one from.
* This review will continue when that day arrives. Though 4 out 5 stars for now as I had a great customer service experience so far as the two gentlemen that day were great help with a drone noob.

I know a lot of other reviews have mentioned him, but Justin really is the best! I run a video production company, and a few weeks ago my partner and I came to Drones Plus to sit in on a seminar about the DJI Phantom. The seminar wasn’t for us, but afterwards we talked to Justin about different drones for our needs, and he spent a while showing us videos and chatting about his own experiences. He was so helpful and so knowledgeable that when we decided to buy an Inspire drone a few weeks later, we knew we had to make the trek up to Studio City to get it from him.
Justin spent hours with us this morning running firmware updates, charging our battery, showing us the ins and outs of the kit, walking us through our first launch, and in general just getting us comfortable with our brand new, beautiful-​but-​intimidating drone. He even offered us his personal number just in case we had any questions while we were shooting and had to troubleshoot, etc. In my (frankly, sometimes picky) experience, I was absolutely floored by Drones Plus and its customer service; if you’re considering buying it online vs buying it from a store, I would recommend Drones Plus without hesitation.

As DJI dealers, Drones Plus also sell the DJI Ronin & Ronin M camera stabilization systems.
I stopped in for a training session today on the Ronin that was supposed to be two hours long but lasted about four hours.
It was informative, fun and absolutely free. There is nothing like a hands on experience with film industry pros who work with this highly technical equipment on a daily basis.
Our instructor, Andrew really took the time to go over every aspect of the Ronin and offered up the nuts and bolts of using the gear in real world settings.
He balanced my RED Epic Dragon in record time and gave me several tips to cut down on prep time on set.
So many questions answered for myself and about thirty other cinematographers today.

Ok. This place is, without a doubt, the go to place for UAV’s (Drones) in Los Angeles.PERIOD. All the guys that work here know their stuff, no exception. A person can walk into this store and not know the difference between up, down, forward, backwards, but these guys will go the extra mile in explaining all the intricacies of flying a drone.
I should add that I am a man going through mid– life crisis and buying a DJI Phantom 3 drone from them has turned out to be much cheaper than therapy and a Hell of a lot more fun!
I strongly recommend that you run, do not walk, to Drones Plus and buy a drone now!!! You will not regret it.
Warning!!! If you go into this store, and do NOT buy a drone, you are destined to stumble through life not knowing what the word «fun» means. Buy a drone, no, buy two drones from Drones Plus! Hurry, do it now before they run out of them!!!
