This school has some of the most highly skilled instructors in town providing individualized instruction focused on mastering proper technique. I started bringing my 5-year-old here when I noticed she wasn’t really improving at her previous martial arts school. I was impressed by how the caring instructors are able to train students of such a wide age range and level of abilities in a single classroom. The students start with a warm up together and then are divided into 2 – 3 groups for skills training. Not only are the students inspired by seeing the more advanced students practice, but they are also inspired to achieve their best through training for regional/national competitions. On the walls, you can see photos of students and their winning metals. For an hour lesson three times a week, the tuition rates are very reasonable. The school is squeezed in the middle of a strip mall, and the name of the school is a little hard to see. But parking is always plentiful, and its location is very convenient. The restaurants, boba shops, and Asian grocery store next door are also great. There are comfortable couches to sit on if you want to observe a class or watch your kids. As opposed to schools that use marketing ploys to pressure you to sign a contract, Ramon is very easy going and even let us have a free trial lesson with no strings attached. I guess he figures if you’re serious about karate, you’ll keep coming. When I was calling around about a karate school, the owner of another karate school recommended this place because he used to be a student here with Ramon Veras. And as if that’s not impressive enough, Ramon is also a member of the US Olympic committee. If you’re looking for a quality school with great teachers, I highly recommend Traditional Karate Center.

My three kids have learned Gojo-Ryu karate with Sensei Ramon for more than 8 years. I have done my research online and physically visited all the martial arts centers in Sugar Land before we started to learn karate. Some martial art centers give kids tests very often and every test will require additional fees. Some kinds of martial arts do not really promote the kids’ self-discipline, endurance, and inner strength. The traditional karate does not only stress on the forms but also the inner strength and breathing. My kids have been lead and instructed by all the Sensei to start with the basics, then local tournaments and have obtained gold medals in the Taxes State Championship and bronze medals in US National Open. They all started with white belts, steadily promoted to 1st Dan in black belt after 7 years and still continue their learning with passion. I really recommend the Gojo-Ryu Karate and this dojo.

Im a mother of two boys ages 7 and 9. My boys started karate here after a failed attempt to get them interested in tae-kwon-do. They have now been students here for over a year. Let me just say that my boys have come a long way under this dojos care. The staff is helpful and friendly and the hours are flexible for any parent. I take my boys in twice a week and sometimes 3 times a week. Other parents do once a week while others do 5 times a week. As a parent its up to your schedule because you can pick from 5 out of 7 days in a week. If you want your child to learn proper technique and self dicipline, then this is the dojo for you. I have yet to see a staff member that did not correct technique during class and pay attention to detail. Also this dojo regularly competes in tournaments on a local and national level. If your goal as a parent is to have your child learn several skills and enter in a positive and competitive environment. Then this is the dojo for you.
