I like how small and quiet this place is. I love supporting family owned businesses, especially when it’s good. I liked everything I have tried, some more than another. I recommend the ramen — its huge so you might want to share. I saw two tables eating the rice dish and I can’t wait to try it this weekend, hopefully. All the sushi I’ve tried were great and seem like they were larger portions compared to other sushi spots. The guy next to me kept going on and on about the teriyaki — sounds like that’s a must try.

Very traditional style sushi spot. Stopped in on a weekend in the afternoon & didn’t wait for a table. Ordered the Gyoza & Miso soup to begin with & was not disappointed! The deal was really sealed when the Chef came out from the back to meet the customers! Next we shared 3 rolls: the shaggy dog, the crazy roll & the Ichiban. All were excellent! Saw a Japanese family sitting next to me & knew that I had made the right choice in my search for good Japanese food. Give this place a shot! You won’t regret it!

I wandered into this location after deciding against Blaze Pizza nearby and getting intrigued. It’s got a nice atmosphere — in the back you’ve got the more traditional japanese seating, though it doesn’t look like anyone was sitting there during lunch. We ordered their bento lunch specials — pork katsu and a miso beef short rib. They’re supposed to come with salad, soup, and mango pudding, but they were out of the pudding that day. Missing out on mango makes me saaaaaaad. You also do get a choice of one of the small sides on the bento — we picked california rolls and crab puffs. The crab puffs were pretty tasty, and I did enjoy my lunch. The pork katsu was a bit drier that I’d like — a bit disappointing. On the plus side though, they do have pretty good matcha milk tea, but I’d order it half-sweet after trying it here. Ichiban, you don’t live up to your name, but I’d be willing to try you again. Please be sure to have mango pudding for my next visit, or I won’t be able to forgive you!

Have been going here with family for years. The service is always great, and their food is awesome. They have a lovely variety of options and their prices are very fair. The owner/chef is the sweetest and had us try a small specialty of his and greets us too. Their smoked salmon is my favorite from all other places i have tried. Their mochi is awesome too!

I came here several times before and even at their second location, which is closed down now. It is average tasting Japanese food and nothing«wow“ed me like any other Japanese food places. I gave them 4 stars for consistency and friendly service. I ordered the ten don(fried shrimp and veggies with rice). My friend ordered the dragon roll. My dish came with miso soup which was delicious(not too salty). Like I mentioned above, average tasting. I would have to say out of everything I ordered here, I say my top pick would be their udon soup. It had a good mix of veggies and seafood. The broth tasted fresh and flavorful. I didn’t get it this time but I plan to next time I come visit. They also offer tapioca drinks but I have never tried them. I might next time!

This place is amazing. I have been coming here for over a year and it has yet to disappoint me. Alan, the owner is a nice guy, cool guy and he runs his business really well. All their sushi is really good, and I’ve recently fell in love with their spider hand roll(soft shell crab) really good. In all hands down one of the nicest hole in the wall sushi & tapioca restaurants.

Great value. Lotsa food for price. Salad, soup were both good. Chicken teriyaki had excellent grill to it, and moist. Catfish katsu was done just right. Finally found a Japanese restaurant where I didn’t have to ask for green tea refills — they were quick to keep it topped off. Service was excellent and food brought out quickly.

Ichiban is a family owned restaurant that makes their food an authentic Japanese food. This place has a delicious sushi, tempura and tonkatsu. Good price and service… Better than the upscales Japanese resto.

Really great Japanese food! The shrimp tempura, Chicken Katsu, and the Shaggy Dog sushi roll are my favorite! They started delivering food but not in my area. :(

I have eaten here twice, once during the busy weekday lunch and on the slower weekend. Both times my food came quickly, correctly, and was absolutely delicious. Fans of both traditional sushi and newer fusion rolls will find a wide selection of options from about $ 4 to $ 15. The service is very friendly, with a staff that wants to treat each customer like family and keep them coming back again and again. Portions are reasonable, and they have really great soups too. The size of the place is pretty small, but pretty fast when you want to get in and out quickly.

I haven’t been here in 4+ years! I used to come all the time in high school, but since starting college and exploring more areas of Houston, I realized there were better choices out there. However, this is probably the only place I know in the hwy6/59 area! My return was on a Wednesday night, around 8pm. The place was totally empty except for my friend & I. I ordered the curry chicken katsu, and my friend ordered the chicken katsu entrée. Both meals came with a free miso soup & salad. My friend was able to substitute her salad for another miso soup, free of charge. The salad is PACKED. The miso soup is verrryyy dense, but it came with a lot of tofu. We both received our entrees, which looked similar. Mine came with the japanese curry on the side, while her’s had an accompaniment sauce. The portions are HUGE. We ended up taking both of our leftovers to go, and it looked like we barely made a dent. The japanese curry was OK. I would say a 3⁄5. The chicken katsu was crispy & cooked well, but the japanese curry wasn’t the best. The curry was slightly gelatinous, which wasn’t really appealing. Overall, a decent, good-portioned meal for a decent price. My japanese curry chicken katsu was probably $ 12 – 13 with tip, and I probably have enough leftovers for the next two days.

I visited Sugar Land last summer and was craving Japanese food. Nice cozy setting inside with a very friendly staff. They were very attentive and always checked up on us to make sure we were doing well. Had the lunch bento box special. Came with chicken teriyaki, and your usuals like salad, rice, and miso soup. The bento box also includes their mango pudding and once choice from the«Choice 1» section. I had the 6 pc California roll. My hungry self devoured the box. Their soup was great and their salad and was good. California rolls were basic but good, and the highlight of the meal was the chicken itself. The mango pudding reminded me of a flan, depending if you like that or not. I would definitely come back here to straight up try their sushi rolls. Verdict: Food: 3.75÷5 Service: 5⁄5 Price: 5⁄5(being from CA, this meal was worth the price)

Everything was so good! Fish was very fresh and all of the rolls were prepared so beautifully. Had the hamachi, tiger eye, shaggy dog, spicy tuna, and the crunchy dynamite. We also had the salmon special-which just melted in your mouth. Let’s not forget the Mochi ball ice cream! I should also mention that the service here is also amazing. Very patient and personable. Would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi!

Well… I would like to say that I had a good experience at this restaurant and I’m sure this happened to be one of those days but I was a little disappointed. This small restaurant has the most friendly staff but I expected more after what happened during lunch. I ordered the sushi lunch meal which looked great and presentable on these great unique plates but after finding a hair embedded in one of the sushi rolls I was disgusted. I simply asked the waitress to please replace my meal and they were accommodating. My only complaint is that if they would have offered to make it up for the mishap it would of been a greater gesture than to just act like it was no big deal. A small gesture goes a long way as far as customer service goes. I wasn’t asking for anything more or to have my bill canceled but something to show that they would of liked to have me again despite of the mishap. That’s just a recommendation and a suggestion to maybe check your food before it goes to the table that way your sure unless you have the employees wear hair nets. Aside from that I will say everything else was good. They do have a side large room or area where you can have large parties or functions. I found it to be very conducive to any occasions you might want to celebrate. I don’t want to be harsh because they were very nice on my visit but I won’t be coming back to visit this location.

If possible 3.5 would be the perfect rating for this place. I ordered the spicy beef shank udon. First of all the broth was phenomenal and also the beef was super duper tender/juicy. The huge thing I saw wrong with this noodle soup is that it’s a big bowl full of broth and not much vegetables, and given very small amount of noodles. If i am paying $ 10 I expect a little more. Don’t get me wrong readers. The broth is phenomenal like I said and the beef is so good that I would give it a 2nd try, maybe the cook yesterday had small hands. Hopefully next time around I get a heaving scoop of noodles.

It’s homey. It’s yummy. It’s sushi. Try the spider roll and the tiger roll. My favorite are the eel rolls and the shrimp tempura. I’m not a fan of the udon bowls but ichiban never fails to hit the spot for a quick sushi run in Sugarland. The staff is all very friendly and the atmosphere is cozy.
