YOUARESADLYMISSED. PJ Horgan’s was one of my all time favorite neighborhood bar/restaurants. I’m heartbroken to know you won’t be coming back. The best burger, French onion soup, staff, and ambience in Sunnyside.

I love their chicken pot pie! The pastry is flaky and the filling is perfect. Delightful to have during colder winter times. Though Id love to have some whenever the craving strikes. Also not that expensive even with a pint or two.

A local watering hole with cold beer(black and tan), good service. French onion soup was good and hot, shepherds pie was good and chicken pot pie was a bit watery but the onion flavor came through and the carrots tasted like carrots. Puff pastry on top was flavorful but chicken was tough. If we lived locally we’d be back but crossing this one off the list.

The ambiance is great here– very relaxed and comfortable,. The staff is very friendly. In fact, we forgot something at our table and called in several hours later, and they held on to our property until we picked it up. The food is really good. When my friend mentioned a bar for dinner, I was skeptical. The chicken wings are not coated in sauce like we’re used to– it’s fried and served dry with celery, carrots and blue cheese. The wings were very well seasoned and some of the best I’ve had– not the slightest bit oily. The chicken pot pie was amazing– piping hot, rich and creamy with a delicious flaky crust. The chicken was not dry at all, especially with with the sauce. The shepard’s pie was equally as delicious, well seasoned with a tremendous amount of ground beef. The mash potato was seasoned and the dish was lined with gravy. My only wish is that it was just a tad bit less salty. I couldn’t finish my whole pie, but it reheated the next day very nicely. I’d definitely come again for the wings alone!

OMG it’s a neighborhood gem. It’s one of the few remaining Irish bars left in the area. I have been here several times and it’s exactly what you would expect it to be. It’s an Irish bar with really good, homey, comforting good eats. The place is kinda on the dark side and the clientele is older, but it’s a great casual lunch/dinner spot that is not too expensive and fills you up nicely. The food: Chicken Wings– I was surprised how much I liked these. They were perfectly fried, they were nice and crunchy, not greasy at all and the chicken was still juicy. These are wings without sauce that you dip in the blue cheese dressing or eat straight up. I like. Chicken Pot Pie– White meat chicken, peas, carrots, onions and celery in a light white sauce topped with puff pastry. I thought their pot pie was great. It had a nice flaky crust, the chicken was nicely cooked especially for chicken breast, the veg was nicely prepared especially the carrots and peas. My only criticism, the sauce does come off a tad sweet, but this is a must order. Shepherds Pie– Freshly ground sirloin beef in a brown gravy topped with mashed potatoes. The mash on top was great, it was super fluffy and had nice flavor. The gravy on the bottom is nice and rich and has a great beef flavor, but runs a tad salty. Bangers and Mash– Irish sausage, fresh mashed potato smothered in an onion gravy. I thought this was great. The sausages are cooked really well and pair with the onion gravy and mash really nicely. It’s not a pretty dish by any means, but so good.

I ordered the corn beef and cabbage special. I was curious to try it because it’s made for st Patrick’s day. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t the greatest either. But we did get dessert and that was good. The black and white cake was just decadent. The pecan pie was tasty too. I look forward in coming here again to try the other dishes.

The best Chicken Pot Pie! When we moved into Sunnyside we knew the Irish fare would be plentiful, but didn’t realize we would find our favorite spot so quickly. This place is great. It’s your standard Irish Pub, with amazing pub fare and my personal favorite: Chicken Pot Pie. I’ve tried other things on the menu(all excellent) and I usually get the soup of the day so that I’m not so hungry I’m tempted to dive into the piping hot pie and scald my mouth. If I have a sweet tooth I’ll also get dessert. They make a delicious Pecan Pie.

S E. agree that service is horrible! My Gf found this pub with decent reviews and decided to stop by. We were in for a surprise. The moment we went in we felt like we were being ignored. We waited to be seated and waited. After a few minutes the bartender helped out by seating us. We were finally seated and thought we were on our way to a good meal. Nope, we were ignored by the waitress even after I got her attention we did not receive any courtesy. My Gf asked for a menu after i was ignored and the waitress said«we don’t have any menus». No hyperbole. This is what she said! We decided, after the bartender was able to locate a couple of menus, to leave the establishment that doesn’t respect their customers. Me and my Gf ended at Café Bene which has impeccable service, decent sandwhichs, and a lot of delicious deserts.

The food is good and the place is cute but the SERVICEISTHEWORST. Bartenders and wait staff act like their are doing you a favor. There was no one in the bar and they gave us a hard time about separate checks. These old Irish staff has some kind of ancient idea abot how to treat customers that tip. We gave more than 20% and the waitress yelled at us. If you can stand the rudeness then its got good food; otherwise go somewhere else in that neighborhood where treat the customers decently.

A great little neighborhood pub that’s been there for years and is the same today as it’s always been. Great burgers, Shepherd’s Pie, chicken pot pie, and Guinness — and some of the best Irish soda bread around.

I love this place. As you walk in, the annoying reality of 2014 quickly fades away where you left it on Queens Boulevard, and you settle into a dark, Irish pub that could be in the 70s, the 80s, or a year ago — but things keep a different pace and you don’t have to worry about the nonsense going on outside. Other than the new tv’s, of course. The food here is pub fare with some more attention given to the menu than a lot of places normally do. The bartender on the times I’ve visited is a fairly salty fella from the old country, and the servers often are as well. But the food is always served quickly, and is by and large great. I’ve generally only gotten soup, burgers, and chicken fingers here before heading out for an extended drinking session. The food has always been delicious and exactly what the doctor ordered. Prices ain’t so bad either. This is a good spot for an uncomplicated, unpretentious dinner; or to grab a bite before heading out somewhere else for the evening. My friend also loves bringing his parents here whenever they come visit.

Food-wise, this is probably my favorite pub in Sunnyside. PJ Horgan’s cheeseburgers are some of, if not THE best ones in the neighborhood — charred on the outside, juicy on the inside, with crispy fried onions and gooey cheddar on top. The shepherd’s pie is also a standout with its well-seasoned beef and fluffy mashed potato exterior. It’s never too loud, and the staff is sweet and attentive. This is a perfect place for a casual family dinner, or for some late night drinks with friends.

Fresh Soda Bread is brought to your table and it is excellent. Seemed like it was freshly baked daily! We had the shepherd pie and chicken pot pie, both dishes freshly prepared and very tasty. Thus is a Bar with ample seating for dining. Authentic Irish Pub with the waitress and staff all with Irish accents. Very nice place, friendly service! Parking is easy as there was plenty of metered parking across the street on a Saturday evening! A little pricey for the portions but definitely worth it given the quality, ambiance and authenticity of the place! I will definitely go back!

I can’t feel my tongue but this was my first ever chicken pot pie and it was phenom. The portions are pretty big and the food is super hot so be careful, They also weren’t cheap on the Jameson in my Jameson and ginger ale. The setting is dimly lit and cozy. Really cute place. Everyone in there has an Irish accent and I love accents. 5 stars because I have yet to compare it to any other chicken pot pie.

Located on Queens Blvd, beside the 7 train, this little Irish tavern is an absolute gem. Here I was a Saturday evening, and suddenly the craving for chicken pot pie overwhelmed me. I began searching for the best chicken pot pie online and based on reviews, I landed at PJ Horgan’s. This place is as authentic Irish as you can get, from the setup to the waitress to the bartender to the patrons to the menu, so on and so forth. My cravings and love for food caused me to order not only the chicken pot pie, but also the shepherd’s pie. HOLYTOLEDO… these were the best freakin things i have encountered in a longgggg while. The chicken pot pie’s crust was perfect. The inside was amazing. It was simply the best pot pie I have ever encountered. The shepherd’s pie was just as good. The beef was tender, the gravy was amazing, the veggies were not overpowering, and the mashed potatoes topped it all off. I will give you a fair warning. Both the pies were piping hot when they came out and as a result I currently can’t feel the roof of my mouth or my tongue. Totally worth it though and I’m not complaining. Lastly, the waitress was really nice and sent us home with a half of soda bread. I left a happy man and like mr. Schwarzenegger, «I’ll be back!»

Nice quiet pub, great for delicious Irish grub and correctly poured pints of Guinness. PJ Horgan is not the type of place you get rowdy in on a Friday night. It is however, a great place to grab a couple of beers with good company while filling up on hearty fare like chicken pot pie and shepherd’s pie. Wait service ain’t half bad either.

Nice place. Dark, intimate, casual. No jukebox, they play music in the background, usually popular stuff, I remember Adele. It’s usually pretty mellow in there with an older crowd, at least when I’ve gone, but I’m usually there earlier in the night or afternoon. The food is decent pub food, solid burgers cooked just right, steak fries, standard frozen mozzarella sticks.

First time here. It’s a dark place, but unlike similar places like the Grand stand in Elmhurst, it doesn’t just have a bar, but dining booths. I mean, this is a pup atmosphere, but I really appreciate cozy booths, good for intimate conversations with close friends or even romantic dates while still eating at a laidback place. No loud music– a HUGE plus for me!(While in my twenties, I’ve always been an old lady underneath it all)– Adele was playing, and she’s a favorite of mine, so that was a pleasant surprise. Service was fair– we were given menus right away, got our orders taken fast, and we were checked on. But she didn’t have a waitress persona, not real engagement, but I noticed she was a bit more engaging at the bar. However, that’s the normal also, most people don’t linger at the tables while taking someone’s food orders. But I was surprised there wasn’t more personality overall. Food was delicious! Now it was a small menu, so not a lot of choices, but the usual fried solid appetizers and burgers/sandwiches, some salads. The mozzarella sticks were normal, nothing amazing, but tasty all the same. The burgers were the big show, so to speak. I got the Sunnyside burger, which comes with fried onions and bacon and your choice of cheese. Bacon was crispy!!! I’m always surprised by that fact, since most places seem to fry it half assed, so it’s kind of spongy and chewy. Steak fries weren’t soft and fresh, seemed as if they used old oil so it was too crispy, but not deep fried, if that makes sense. The beef patty was amazing– medium rare as I had requested, and cooked perfectly, rather than well done like most places tend to do. Smallish/medium sized patty– don’t expect diner portions here– but it was filling! I think the burgers alone would be worth a trip back. Hearty!
