Food was salty, sodium count must have been through the roof. Apps were subpar and just not good. I expected more after they revamped this place but was disappointed.

I highly recommend Thai Origin. As a Sunnyside resident for 17 years I’ve tried practically all of the thai restaurants that have come and go and the ones that are still open. Thai Origin is as fresh as it can get. Each dish I’ve had has been tasty and fairly portioned. This was also the spot my husband and I reserved to have family come over and feast. As a southeast asian american myself, without a doubt, this restaurant holds up to its standards without hurting your wallet. The service is warm. Here are the dishes we ordered and highly recommend: Curry Puff Crispy Calamari SaTae Chicken Tamarind Fish — Extra extra fresh!!! I had my post ceremony meal at this place in 2012. The chef/owner/manager was pleasant, honest, and cared about the meals he served.

Yes I agree with everyone stating that this place is dead empty. I am the odd one who dined in for dinner, by myself, on my second day as a new resident of Sunnyside. I felt quite special having the whole restaurant to myself. I made two mistakes that day. First mistake, I did not check-in nor read the reviews before coming into the restaurant. I rarely eat at random restaurants because of terrible experiences in the past, but luckily Thai Origin did not turn out to be one of them. Second mistake, I ordered pork chops. Who orders pork chops at a Thai restaurant? I really did not know what I was thinking. Needless to say, the 2 slices of pork chops with rice was. edible. Not recommended. A couple weeks later I dined-in again, and surprise surprise, I had the whole restaurant to myself again. This time I checked the Unilocal reviews and found the DRUNKENNOODLES to be a hit and indeed it was! There was room for improvement on the portion size, but nonetheless the flavor and quality of the dish was excellent. Since I was the only person in the restaurant, granted the service was quite excellent as well. While I was eating, I noticed the delivery men taking orders out the door. So I presume majority of the customers order delivery. I have yet to order delivery so i cannot comment on that topic, but I can assure you that dining in is a gratifying experience despite the lack of customers.

As a vegetarian this place definitely delivers! I’m a fan of the pad-see-ew. Also delivery is very fast!

Nice place. Tried the duck red curry. The combination of the red curry and the crispy duck makes this dish worth a comeback. As for the beef red curry is just ok.

I’m surprised they made it into the winter. Quality took a massive nosedive through the fall. Adiós, long-standing Thai restaurant under several iterations! It’s been a 10-year run. Now in place: BBQ Hut(Indian/Pakistani). The interior is unchanged, still sporting the same upside-down, faded chili light fixtures. Good luck! I am very picky when it comes to Thai food. The five boroughs tend to disappoint more than I would would care for. That is why I was pleasantly surprised and optimistic when Thai Origin opened — the quality of the food was leagues beyond what it’s former occupant, Grey Point, served. It was borderline«authentic» for several dishes I tried. Sadly, it seems to be following in the same footsteps as Grey Point. The quality of the food and service have gone down a substantial notch. I think it’s just a short matter of time before the place shutters or changes ownership yet again. Major red flags for me are the continued always-empty space, ingredients being substituted for cheaper ones(i.e., peanuts in place of cashews, and what seems sacraliage for a Thai restaurant — serving short-grained non-jasmine rice; when I asked the waitress about the rice that was served to me, she insisted it was jasmine rice, although it paled in comparison to the Chinese take-out place a couple blocks over), the increasing deterioration of the interior(is it that hard to fix the wallpaper treatment that is sagging and falling down?), the recent switch to «cash only», smaller portions, and lack of decent service. Tonight as I walked in with my family, the restaurant was sweltering inside. They immediately powered on the AC, which made it clear to me that they are actively trying to save money by not using it in the first place(hello, it takes more energy to cool a space that large from scratch than it does to maintain cooling). The waitress also creeped us out by always wear sanitary latex gloves(all of the dishes«squeaked» as she placed them). An overall disappointment. While the food didn’t taste«bad», it has been diminished.

My husband and i were looking for thai food for late night dinner. We saw Thai Origin restaurant! there were NO one inside the place. We got a little concerned but still went for late dinner. I always order massaman curry as its my favorite. They had no squid :! so i choose with beef which was a bad choice because beef was overcooked. Overall, not bad. Cheap and good food!

Thai Origin was excellent when they first opened but unfortunately the food has really gone downhill. Our last few orders were mediocre at best. The restaurant is always empty and is starting to appear neglected. Sorry Thai Origin… We are taking our business elsewhere.

My boyfriend and I ordered take-out from here on Seamless. My favorite Thai dish on a random night is either drunken noodles or red curry. Drunken Noodles These are some of the best I’ve had, and trust me, I order this dish a lot. The noodles were well cooked, not too greasy, with great flavor. The tofu was even browned in just the right way. I also love that they have baby bok choy instead of other less exciting veggies. Chicken Pad Thai This is what my boyfriend got. He says it’s a little sweet, but excellent. When we visited, the restaurant was empty on a Friday night, which really surprised me. I hope that this place does better because the food is honestly very good. If you haven’t tried it yet, I really encourage you to give this place a go!

Had a bad delivery experience here. I ordered, via seamless, around 1:30. I received an email confirmation at 1:33… Around 2:15 I called… no answer. I called a few more times, about once every minutes thinking that maybe they receptionist was in the bathroom or something… no answer. Ten minutes later, I called from my work line(NOT the number on the order) and someone picked up right away… and seemed flustered when I said who I was and asked about my order. She said they were too busy and that the order would be going out soon. I called back 20 min later and she told me there had been a shooting and the roads were closed, and the delivery guy couldn’t get to his bike… And the sky was falling, and my food had been eaten by wolves. Ok she didn’t say the last part, but lots of excuses. The food finally came and it wasn’t even tasty ugh! I ordered spicy basil chicken with added eggplant, Tom yum soup, and fresh rolls. The fresh rolls were just carrots, lettuce, and cucumber with some plain tofu… No mint… No cilantro, nothing. I was very disappointed. The soup was ok but it had sliced onions in it… Which was weird. The spicy basil was sweet… Not spicy at all. They gave me lots of eggplant, which was nice. If the food had been better, I would have tried them again… But the food was pretty bad. Sad that I can’t add them to my lunch roster :-(

It’s nice little place. The décor is simple but what impress me is the food. The chef is starting to show his flare of real Thai cooking with a modern twist. I haven’t seen any place else that has their pineapple ginger shrimp. I thought it was amazing. The price is great too.

I’ve only ordered take out from here but I think I will just start walking over because the last time they put the food in the plastic containers while it was so hot you could smell the plastic. Its great that the dishes are freshly made but the nearly melting plastic thing kind of freaks me out(all the thai spots in the area use the same plastic containers, this was just the first time I noticed such a distinct plastic smell) Thai iced tea — always yuum, but especially good here & they don’t have to-go cups so they send them to you in little plastic covered bowls lol. Spring Rolls — they are pretty tiny but tasty, remind me more of spring rolls I get at chinese places than the kind I usually see at thai. The vingrette dip is super yum too! Drunken Noodles — They live up to the hype! DELICIOUS! Spicy though so be warned! Black Noodles — My normal reaction to Pad See Ew is just that. Ewwwww. haha. Tends to be to bland & soggy or oily for my tastes. This actually had a really good flavor. It was lacking in spice and saltiness but nothing that a little soy & sriracha can’t fix! :) I ordered my dishes with tofu, they use silken tofu which is dense but still soft and moist not tough, chewy, dry, squishy or mushy. It was perfect! mmm. * I think the perfect dish(esp if the Drunken Noodles are too spicy for ya) would be to mix the Drunken and Black Noodles together to even out the heat/flavor imbalance. Red Curry — this was the one thing I was not a fan of. Something about the broth was off/funky. it could have been the smell of the overheated plastic. idk. The veggies/tofu/rice were good but I couldn’t get over the smell even though I transferred it out of the plastic into a ceramic bowl. Iccck.

This place is amazing. We have been numerous times and every time it is good. Have not had a bad experience thus far. We have tried various things on the menu and they all have been great, including the price. We will continue to come as often as possible. The only negative I have to say is that when you first walk in there is a weird smell, don”t know if its the seafood or the spices, but other than that the food and the service is always excellent.

Thai Origin is a very solid place for take out Thai in Sunnyside. Decent food, with some good options that go beyond the traditional Thai-American staples. And they will deliver for less than $ 10, which is key. Stick to take out though, because this place is dead empty… ALL. THE. TIME. And trust me, this Twilight Zone of a restaurant is not the kind of place you want to be stuck in with whoever else was desperate enough to actually dine in there.

Like a previous reviewer, I just made this Unilocal account to comment on Thai Origin. I LOVE this place. We order take out once or twice a week from here. They always deliver quick and they always remember to offer the complimentary soda. The food is cheap and delicious. I just tried the Drunk Man Noodles with chicken last night and they were damn good. I normally order the Siamese Fried Rice with chicken. If you haven’t had it, TRY it. Its not spicy and more like a comfort food for me. I have ate inside maybe twice and its always empty but it is so good. The only downfall is they might have a hard time understanding you if you are ordering over the phone with a brogue! Everyone go to Thai Origin!

For a mere $ 6, this place has a decent lunch special selection. The lunch special comes with a choice of appetizer(Crispy Spring Rolls, Golden Fritters, Steamed/Vegetables Dumplings, Green/Caesar Salad, Tom Yum Soup) or drink(Thai Iced Tea, Iced Coffee). I come here mostly for lunch take-outs, so the plain black and white décor doesn’t really catch my eyes as much. Likes — Fair prices, generous portions, and friendly service. Dislikes — The shrimps were under-cooked and the Iced Coffee was too sweet.

Semi-new to the hood and adding to the already beefed up Thai scene, Thai Origin replaces the once dreadful Gray Point( ) as the sole Thai establishment on Greenpoint. While this area hasn’t exactly been kind to new and upcoming establishments, at least Thai Origin is a huge step up from its predecessor. They’ve done some nice things with the interior, modernizing it so that the small space feels more intimate than cramped. That along with the friendly service and reasonable prices, makes this joint a very date friendly spot. I haven’t found enough holes in the food to deem it unworthy and I’m pleased to note that each dish I’ve had thus far has been tasty and well portioned. Drunken noodles? Big thumbs up. Pad see yu, very money. Crab fried rice and pad thai? Done and done. I sometimes would just come by to get their $ 2.50 Thai iced tea, which is sweet but sinfully good especially during the summer time. The only sad thing is this place is dead every time I visit. Not too many frequent this place for lunch and dinner has been ho hum crowd wise, which makes Thai Origin from an ambiance standpoint a bit drab. Their delivery might be their saving grace, which has been fast and furious, even with our nutty weather. With the shoddy reputation that is Greenpoint restaurants in Sunnyside, my hope is Thai Origin can weather the storm and remain on the forefront for Thai choices in the hood.

I ordered delivery from here recently and am pleased to say that Thai Origin left me very satisfied. I will be coming here again. I had some spring rolls which were made with extremely fresh ingredients and had a delicious dipping sauce. The one downside was that they were big and fell apart a little while I ate them, but it was a small inconvenience, and I appreciated that they were trying to provide their customers with larger portions. I also had the Mongolian Deluxe with chicken. This dish had cucumber, tomato, pineapple and potatoes with a sort of sweet and sour sauce. It was really tasty and I had enough to save some for lunch the next day. Over all, I had a very good experience with this place. I felt that their pricing was fair and the food was good. Very happy to have them in the neighborhood.

This place is relatively new but I am angry at myself for waiting so long to try it. We went to dinner around 6 and were the only people in the restaurant, which is a shame, because this place is awesome. I should mention it was raining and the delivery guy had another order to take every time he returned. The crispy vegetarian spring rolls for $ 3 can’t be beat for the price. All noodle and rice dishes are only $ 7.50. This place probably has the best drunken noodles I have ever had. Someone mentioned this in the quick tips, and I couldn’t agree more. I may bring a ruler with me next time, because I am convinced the noodles are 3 inches wide! They are a touch spicy though so be aware if you don’t like spicy. However, if you don’t like spicy Thai food may not be for you anyway. The Thai iced teas are only $ 2.50 and are a delicious offset to the spicy noodles. Service was great, food is great, atmosphere is clean, prices are inexpensive. This will become a regular on the neighborhood rotation.
