Ignore negative reviews. My fiancé and I have been coming here for years. They work well with insurance and provide many extras. The office is high tech and you get what you pay for. If low cost is your goal try Mexico.

I am surprised to see so many negative reviews for Dr. Sevely’s practice. I had braces throughout high school. My teeth were extremely sensitive after the braces were removed. To avoid the horror, I stopped wearing my retainer which caused my teeth to shift. A few years later, an orthodontist recommend jaw surgery to get my overbite corrected completely. I received a flyer in the mail from Dr. Sevely’s office. I scheduled an appointment. The ladies at the front desk are nothing but exceptional. I was given a clear quote on my charges. My invisalign will be here in a few weeks and I can’t wait to get my teeth fixed again. I’d definitely recommend Dr. Sevely to anyone looking for a dentist in Sunnyvale.

They’ll overcharge you 100%. After you you pay them they’ll treat you like trash. A total disgrace. Avoid. There are lot of much better practices in the area.

After reading these reviews for the first time, it has reaffirmed my doubts about the ethics of this business.
The first time I came here I got a sales pitch, heavy attention and full on honeymooning with dr sevely. He tried to sell me everything from Vaneers to Invisalign to mouthwash to whitening paste.
The office staff didn’t charge me for my first regular visit. The next visit, all the sudden they tried to charge 20 for a regular cleaning with no explanation for the change in price. I said they did t charge last time and she said she would waive it then.
Next cleaning, they scheduled it 3 months away– due to hygienist recommendation to monitor «gum bleeding» (after he brutal flossing). They charged me full price out of pocket for because my insurance did not cover that many cleanings within a space of 6 months. I asked to waive the fee based on the fact I did not ask for the extra cleaning but was told that it’s ultimately my responsibility to know my coverage.
Next appointment. I gave him another chance. My tooth chipped and I needed it fixed asap. He said they could take care of it no question. When I showed up, I was quickly thrown in with another doctor whom I had no idea was going to do the tooth. It has been less than a year and it already chipped off again. He claims it’s because I need a Vaneer, even though my old dentist was able to reconstruct the same edge of that tooth that lasted over ten years.
True — dr sevely has heavily pushed Vaneers on my healthy natural teeth every single chance he got.
True– the office staff do not know what they are doing and will not be on your side– Make sure you watch out for there schemes to bait and switch, and charge hidden fees. They will not become familiar with what you are covered on and end up overcharging you.
I was recently told that I had several cavities and I need to schedule to come back in. I asked the office manager of the insurance would cover the fillings and she said ‘probably not all of it– they rarely cover the ones in the back’
I quickly lost my trust in him when he asked me why I was considering Invisalign (I had braces earlier in life) and I reminded him «because you recommended it to me»

My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Sevely for a little over three years now and I am surprised to find so many bad reviews. In the past three years I’ve never had less than a perfect visit the staff is AMAZING & Dr. Sevely is very knowledgeable and always has your best interest. I was just in last week and my hygienist Yung was awesome I also had the one hour whitening and it was painless and my teeth look great! I Recommend Dr. Sevely to anyone looking for an EXELLENT DENTIST!!!

Great service ! I have been a patient here for about a year now, I had recently moved to the area and was looking for a dentist & a friend referred me to Dr.Sevely. He is very courteous & knowledgeable, he is very friendly & professional, always answering my questions. As well as his staff is very outstanding, the hygienist is also great & gentle, she does very through cleanings ! it is always a pleasant visit to the dentist!

Me and my son have been a patient of Dr. Sevely for over 6 years. He is the best Dentist we have had. Most of the time there is a cost being that he is not a provider for my insurance but that’s ok. You get what you pay for in my eyes. My family care comes first. There is never a wait over 5 min. It’s like the minute I walk in they are ready to see me. His office has the latest in technology witch makes my appointment much better and faster the time I needed a crown. The staff is super friendly too they make you feel more than just a patient that walks thru the door. I always recommend Dr. Sevelys office to my friends and co workers.

After seeing a different dentist for 20 years I decided to see Dr. Sevely after both of my parents had seen him for bridges. Although the process was very expensive, my parents are SO HAPPY with whole process, how they were treated and how their teeth turned out. So I started seeing him too.
Growing up I had years of braces and never really kept up with my retainers afterwards so I wanted to entertain the idea of Invisalign to correct some minor things. I didn’t think the price was all that bad, plus they gave me a free whitening once it was all said and done. I was happy with the process & the end result.
I don’t have any issues with billing because my employer gives us an «allowance» for dental work… so I’m glad I don’t have to deal with insurance.
The staff is always so friendly, I really enjoy the atmosphere. They always seem to remember the small things about me, vacation, family, etc and it makes you feel like they truly care.

This guy and his assistant Regina are crooks! They made us spend thousands of dollars between 2006 and 2008 on fillings and basic cleaning that cost nothing or next to nothing in other places. Their trick is bait and switch: Lure you with $ 50 gift card, which takes several naggings for them to give it to you, then first give you a low quote or free of charge promise, and then tell you after the treatment you have to pay hundreds or thousands more because insurance would not pay or not pay enough. I have perfect teeth due to good genes, never had cavity, no gum disease or any problems, all I needed was 2 cleanings a year and he still managed to bilk a few hundred $ from me. We finally had enough and left in 2008. And we only found out recently about other complaints and lawsuits against them, and the discipline actions taken by California dental board. I filed a complaint with the dental board just before the 7-​year statute of limitation ran out. Wish I knew about the Dental board earlier and complained sooner. Maybe they will have fewer victims. Their reputation is so bad they have to pay a lot of money to
so that their fake praises for Gary Sevely DDS is placed on top of Google search result page artificially. Can you pay your way to manipulate search result?
seems like a shady business. Anyway, if you have to pay a lot of money every month to manipulate Google search result, plus all the legal fees to fend off lawsuits and cost to complete the Dental Board probation, then you are paying a price for your crime. You cannot get away with fraud and greed, especially in the age of internet and social media!!! Karma!

I keep receiving his postcard reminder. So I’ve decided to write again. He is still using the old tricks, with perks such as $ 75 credit. I am surprised this guy is still around, after so many years of deceitful practice.

Serious, serious charging issues.
Over $ 3100 for a root canal and a crown along with another $ 2500 in «cavities» for my daughter. All charges were OFF the high scale for each treatment.

I went to dr sevely many years ago when he was on Hollenbeck in Sunnyvale. I had 4 crowns done by him. Eventually I started going to another dentist. All 4 crowns had to be redone because they were not done properly. They were all not more than 3 – 4 years old. I would NEVER go to this dentist again!!!

This review is not about Dr. Sevely’s dental service but I think it’s somewhat relevant.
I get Dr. Sevely’s very nice, glossy, colorful flyers every few weeks. I called Dr. Sevely’s office a few times asking to be taken off their mailing list.
Finally I called again and said I had called several times already. They said that they had taken me off and that is it their mailing list distributor that is at fault. They suggested I call their mailing list distributor. I replied that their office is responsible for sending me unsolicited advertisements and that they are responsible for removing me. They replied that if I don’t call the mailing list distributor then I’ll keep getting the ads, in other words they won’t take responsibility.
I think Dr. Sevely’s office’s cavalier response to my request, their pushy marketing and irresponsibility is remarkable. And when considered in light of all the other reviews it is not unsurprising.

I was Dr. Sevely’s patient about five years ago. As such, my review is based on old information, so keep that in consideration.
However, I left because I really wasn’t pleased with his pushing to sell things I didn’t need. He (successfully) sold me an expensive «tongue cleaner + tongue scraper kit»… tried to sell me new fillings to replace my «old» ones — even though mine have been fine, and even five years later none of my subsequent dentists have said a thing about them. and so on.
The hygienist also lectured a little too much. I could do a better job flossing, granted, but it felt like a never-​ending shame session sometimes.
I can’t say that I was displeased by the end result while I was there, and I can’t say he tried to do work on my teeth that actually harmed them — but I just felt like every visit was just a horrible sales pitch chore. Much happier with the two dentists I’ve had since.

What brought me in was his flier about one-​day ceramic crowns. Decided to get other dental things taken care of, as well.
I felt uncomfortable when I first arrived (y’know how they say to trust your instincts – I should have). The entire office décor is just pictures of pretty teeth, the only literature lying around brags up the practice and the dentist, and then there is that «1984» thing with the television set on one channel only, showing the dentist giving speeches. The feeling was surreal.
My first appointment was for exam and cleaning, but before I could begin, I had to go into the back with «the office manager» (who I found out later is the dentist’s wife). She really put the screws to me to buy a set of veneers for a minimum of $ 10,000. I felt like I had lost a lot of status there when I refused.
Anyway, the dentist did an OK job on replacing an old filling, so that was good, but then (!) I got the one-​day crown, that crumbled into pieces shortly thereafter. Everyone was grumpy with me when I came back. Ended up with a metal crown that took two weeks to make, just like everywhere else.
I got tricked into one of the «root planing» jobs, and it was pretty much like a regular good dental cleaning, but way more expensive.
Finally, they was a constant problem with billing and payments. It seemed like every time I went in I was writing another check for several hundred to over a thousand dollars, my insurance did not get billed for things (but who cares, since I was paying up front?), and there were a few errors in credits and debits on my account. Do I even need to say the errors were all, coincidentally, NOT in my favor?
When I stopped going they claimed I owed them another thousand dollars or so, and sent me to collections. I disputed it with the credit report agency, and the dental office could produce no proof that I owed them (which I did not), so the charge was dropped.
It is just sad that this kind of stuff goes on.

Don’t go here and you can save yourself the horrible mistake I made. I am so so angry at this practice.
I came here to get a cleaning, and some work done. I currently have premium dental insurance because I planned for this. However, I was not prepared for his office’s billing practices.
They gave me a printout of what I was liable for after explaining how much they estimated the insurance company would pay. I paid $ 2,000 upfront and insurance was billed for the rest.
After a few months went by, they hit me with another bill, explaining I owed them another $ 1,000. They said that they had OVERESTIMATED the amount the insurance would pay, and I owed for the part that insurance ended up not covering. The insurance paid about $ 1,000.
So after paying $ 2,000, insurance paying $ 1,000, they tell me I should pay another $ 1,000?!! what kind of OVERESTIMATION is that?
Ridiculous and horrible. I haven’t had any problems with my teeth, but you know what? With all the dentists around, if I had been told upfront about the TRUE cost of his services, I would have saved myself the trouble and gone somewhere else.
Those fliers he sends you saying he’s a top rated dentist in Sunnyvale — it’s just advertising.
He is super greedy and his billing practices are deceiving. Watch out for how the amount insurance will pay is overestimated and then they come back and slap you with an additional bill. I doubt I am the first person this has been done to.
Recommendation: rip-​off and dishonest.

Wow… I Googled my dentist to refer someone to him and I found SO many terrible experiences shared on Unilocal!
I feel like I am just the opposite from everyone else. I have had an incredible experience with Dr. Sevely and his team. In fact, I literally fly or drive across the country to see them twice a year!
I will add this: I have never had any big dental issues. I can say that for a regular checkup, teeth whitening and oral hygiene wisdom, I adore this team.
If you are looking for a cheap option, this may not be the best place, but I have found great quality and I always feel cared for here.

Disgusting. Reprehensible. Shameless — three keywords to describe the bad customer service and price gouging.
This place is really about scalping customers, it’s disgusting.
I inquired about braces one day when I was a young student and he tried to up-​sell me on $ 20,000 veneers. WHAT THE FUCK MAN, THAT’S JUST DIRTY. I’ll give him credit for being a wise guy who mixes in his technical knowledge with sales so you get facts about your teeth which he uses to try and sell you products.
They enjoy rushing you off to the counter to pay or they try to get the most payment out of you asap. Talk about managing accounts receivable… but they take it way too far trying to make you pay immediately.
This guy is also an egotistical fuck. He likes to play a looping video of when he was interviewed on «the wellness hour», a show about health matters. A show that no one has ever heard of on backwater cable; I had to Google it to find what it was.
I don’t trust this guy one bit…

Not real impressive customer service. I went to have a consult on a crown I was having replaced. After waiting for ~45 minutes in a waiting room with a fussy baby, I was questioned extensively about the current crown by both ladies in the office, although not at the same time. Finally, when asked by the assistant, I simply said it was a long story. Then, I had to go through the whole thing again with the dentist.
I have to go with those who mentioned the greed factor. It appeared he was not interested in billing the insurance (giving an excuse that just didn’t sit right with me) BUT I could pay up front and they’d do what they could in billing my insurance.

I HATE this man.
The one star doesn’t reflect how horrible this man is.
I went here after walking into a plate glass window in the dark at work. A little bit of my tooth had chipped off. While I was still in shock he gave me the hardsell that if I didn’t do a root canal right then I’d be in horrible pain.
Obviously you don’t need a root canal when you chip the corner of the tooth. After that point though I had to get a crown. The crown he put on me was so big I couldn’t actually close my mouth. It was the size of a mini marshmallow. HUGE! And round, not tooth shaped. To make matters worse, in order to fit this monstrosity in my mouth he started filing down the tooth next to it! And when I complained that I couldn’t close my mouth, they told me I just wasn’t trying and that it was fine. The staff and «dentist» is rude and horrible.
I had nothing but trouble with this tooth after that. Finally ten years later I’ve had two more root canals, 3 more crowns, and finally we gave up on trying to make it better and I got an implant and finally it’s better. I’ve spend about 40,000 on this one tooth over the last ten years since he bullied me into a root canal I didn’t need.
It’s my front tooth so it matters what the crown looks like. After the first few years of this dentist nightmare I would have just left it with no tooth… except you wouldn’t really do that with a front tooth.
I HATE THIS MAN. He is both vile and evil. And most of all greedy.
