I really want to LOVE Orange Theory Sunnyvale. I really do. Here’s why: The owner is super super super cool, the instructors are ALL amazing, the facility is retro-cool, and my work outs have been nothing short of kick-ass. That being said, my disappointments are too large to ignore. First of all, let’s talk about their pricing plans. I signed up months before the place opened with«founder rates»… I signed up for the elite package which«supposedly» enables me to have an unlimited number of workouts. The reality of the situation, however, is that all of the classes book up. So, unless you want to spend countless hours planning your work out schedules months in advance, you’d be foolish to do an elite plan. You won’t get into all the classes you want. Some of us work for a living and don’t have the time or interest to spend all their time scheduling. My so-called elite founder rate is so ineffective that I’ve now gone 10 days without a class because they’ve all filled up. What a joke. Secondly, this place prides itself on technology. My heart monitor hasn’t worked right the past 5 – 6 sessions. Each time I’ve taken this to the staff they’ve told me they couldn’t give me another one because they were unable to trouble-shoot the issue. Without good data, the whole idea of Orange Theory goes out the door. The Splat points, the workout stats mean nothing. You’d think they’d want to keep an elite founder happy by giving a new one without question but they have chosen to go the other route. Final word? I’ll continue to work out there, maybe once a week… because the work outs are so good — but I’ll be getting off the elite package as soon as I can. Again, I really hope they do well and I think they will. I’m just not in love with the place like I was hoping I’d be by now. I just sort of like it.

This place will kick your butt so hard to get it in shape… All the while blasting fun music with an instructor(who are all super HOTTTT) to motivate you the whole time… You just have to try it and if you’re serious about getting in shape and staying in shape, you will LOVE it!!! Pricey monthly monetary commitment but that’s just it– it’s a commitment and your body and health are worth it! I’ve only been going for 2 months since it opened and I try to go 4 – 6 days/week. I look forward to every class and go out of my way everyday to make it! They use an app to book classes which is a huge deal to book ahead of time and know when they offer the classes. You can get on wait lists and the staff will let you know if you make it into a class. All the staff are super cool and friendly. They are helpful and motivating and great with communicating via email, phone calls and even text… I have no complaints at all about OTF Sunnyvale and it’s becoming a family that I’m enjoying being a part of!!!

When you decide to challenge yourself and take an Orange Theory Fitness class you must accept a few truths: your eyes will be assaulted by the color orange, the music will be loud, and the online booking system will be atrocious. With those common truths explained, let me explain why this new Sunnyvale studio is the best Orange Theory Fitness studio in the Bay Area. 1) The staff is friendly and nice. They genuinely care. When you walk in they’ll greet you, rather than just continuing to talk amongst themselves. It’s really important to feel welcome at a gym, and the front desk staff does that. 2) The trainers are good motivators. It’s hard to give personalized attention in group classes, but they definitely try to give the best experience possible. They vary the workouts and the playlists. 3) The location. It’s nice being located in downtown Sunnyvale because there’s always parking! Perhaps because Sunnyvale has a bad rep or because this studio is relatively new, I’ve found it easier to schedule last-minute classes at this studio than others. 4) The space is, well, spacious! There is room to switch from treadmill to rower to weights without bumping into somebody. One of the walls is all windows, allowing plenty of natural light. Although I usually find decals tacky, I like the motivational writings on the wall. 5) The results! A typical one hour workout is 500+ calories. After a few classes that leave you sore the next day, it won’t be long until you develop calluses on your palms and start feeling stronger and more fit.

My review for this place relates to the Unilocal Elite Event that took place here earlier tonight. I felt good shedding the calories from dinner time and that workout room felt like a sauna post-workout, whew! Walking into Orange Theory, we grabbed our respective name tags, signed a waiver, and then attached our heart rate monitors on. I, for one, have never put on a heart rate monitor on while working out so I thought that this was pretty cool and VERY motivating during my workout. On the big screen TV, not only do you get to see your heart rate pumping, but you get to see your fellow Unilocalers heart rates’ as well. At one point throughout the intense 45-minute workout, my heart rate was the highest while everybody else’s was at an average pace, which made me realize how much more I need to workout, haha! Also, seeing your peers’ heart rates soar way higher than yours makes you feel like you gotta work just as hard too! In the workout room, there are three stations. The first workout station I did included lifting weights in different stances and positions. After that first station, I couldn’t believe I had to do two more stations because I was pouring sweat already! Next, came the treadmills and the best part about this was the pace that the fitness trainer assigned us with. There were three paces that we cycled back and forth throughout the 15 minutes and I like how it pushes us to walk or run past our comfort zone. If I were in control of my own treadmill pace, I know that I wouldn’t have sweated as hard as I did tonight. Lastly, the third station included the«rowing» machines, which I can’t explain too much about since I ended up going on the elliptical. However, from word of mouth, it seemed like a lot of Unilocalers enjoyed the rowing machine! All in all, it was a GREAT Unilocal Elite Event and a GREAT workout! All of the fitness trainers were very approachable, motivating, and nice! Loved my overall experience here at Orangetheory Fitness :)

Nope, these fitness classes don’t come cheap, but if you’re looking for something to whip you into shape quickly, OrangeTheory Fitness is a great option. Each class is a mix of cardio and strength training(treadmill, rower, TRX, free weights, medicine balls). Everyone is encouraged to do what’s comfortable for them and their body — I’ve seen people throw up during class, which means you’re pushing yourself too hard. You use a heart rate monitor(rent for $ 5/class or buy for $ 70, but you can use it outside the studio!) and you can check which zone you’re in to make sure you’re pushing yourself the right amount(you want to be mostly in orange and you should be in red when you’re in all-out). Anyhow, I love the instructors and equipment. The rowers here are water rowers too!

Obsessed!!! Love love love this location! I’m biased since its 2 blocks from my place but it’s also the coaches here. My super favorite is Lorenzo! His attitude is so encouraging and awesome. Another favorite is Sairus, he gets you motivated to push extra hard. I’m not suggesting any of the other coaches aren’t as awesome, I’ve only just had these two! Lol Also, the front desk staff is the bees knees and they are always smiling and pumping me up when I need it! Thanks Team OTF

I took a few trial classes last week and am taking 2 classes every week now. Each workout is different and is almost 60 minutes. Workouts are a mix of cardio(treadmill and rowers) and floor exercises. For people who run, the way the treadmill workouts go, I am sure it will help improve running speed.

I wanted to wait a few days after trying Orangetheory to write my review, and I’m glad I did. A little background on Orangetheory — this is a 1 hour class geared to keeping your heart rate at above 84% of your max. You wear a heart rate monitor to track your progress during the class, as you go through a circuit including cardio/weights/trx-esque activities/etc… This class KICKEDMYBUTT. I’d like to think I’m in decent shape, but by the end of this class I was gassed. It felt good, and it was rewarding to see how I did through the report they email you at the end of the class. The aftermath: ok… I couldn’t walk for 2 days. It was ridiculous how sore my glutes were. But it felt good! Come if you’re interested in getting a great workout, and aren’t afraid to work hard!

I am SO impressed with Orangetheory. I attended their trial classes last week, and was blown away by how awesome of a workout you get here. It’s really cool getting to pace yourself based on an actual metric(your heartrate) and be honest with yourself about when you are really pushing yourself and when you just think you are. :) The trainers are awesome, their playlists are incredible(this is very important when you are DYING on a rower or treadmill), and it’s an awesome mix of strength and cardio. So excited that this place exists in my town!
