Have got Hindi and Tamil movie DVDs for a few years now. Appreciate their staff’s service and attitude towards customers for the most part(most part because they have had some pretty rude folks over the years as well). Especially since buying new Indian movie DVDs could be rather expensive, their service comes in handy. Would highly recommend! :)

I come here to get my Bollywood fix and have had a pleasant experience so far renting DVDs. The people behind the counter are very nice(when you meet them a few times) and are helpful in recommending films. They also throw in a couple of grace days here and there if you’re like me and lose track of time– all the time. I am sure customers like me appreciate that. Also, don’t be afraid to ask the person behind the counter to play the dvd on the TV for you so you won’t get surprises in quality when you get home. There is a $ 20 refundable deposit for opening an account with them to rent movies. You get it back when you close the account.

Cheap and cheerful. :) The store has a good collection of old and new Indian movies. I can only speak for the Hindi section, since I rarely watch movies in any other Indian language. The men behind the counter are friendly, helpful with suggestions and relatively relaxed with the return policy if you overshoot by a day or so. It’s our friendly neighborhood store that we enjoy stopping by at. We don’t have a point of reference, because we haven’t tried any other stores, but then we don’t need to – we’re happy with Sur Sangeet.

rude conversations, pirated movies with bad prints for recent releases, and generally bad service — I wish I knew a better place to get bollywood movies

I had the worst experience this evening since moving to the Bay area recently. I handed the guy behind the counter a $ 20 bill since they need a $ 20 deposit in cash to start an account. Then after giving him my DL and other info to fill in, I gave him another $ 20 bill to pay for my rental. He said where is the money for the deposit? I couldn’t believe this. I tried to tell him that I gave you the money even before you asked for my DL, but he wouldn’t listen. I have never encountered such unethical, unprofessional business practice. I think, on a second thought, I will go and cancel my dvd rental account when I go back to return the DVD I rented today.
