I am a new fan of this sushi spot! At first, I was doubtful about its strip mall location, but my colleague from Japan told me this is where she would go when she feels like sushi! She was absolutely right! The fish was very fresh(only had sashimi, so I don’t know about the nigiri or maki). They also make very good cooked food. I like their Bento dinner, nice presentation and good grilled fish. Yum!

I have never had worse sushi. Came in for a lunch to go and the sushi was almost warm. Also got sick to my stomach because of it. To top it off everyone in my group got sick from their sushi. I do not know how the won all these awards but this was not what I expected from such high ratings.

This is the best sushi spot in Denver/Boulder. I come here at least once a month and have never had a bad experience — the fish and the rice are always fresh, and the rolls are very reasonably priced. Yes, sometimes you might have a wait if you come on a busy Friday or Saturday, but that’s because Yoshi himself is making every roll. I’ve never waited more than 30 minutes from sitting down to being served, either, which doesn’t feel unreasonable. I highly recommend the Power roll and the Osaka Tuna roll. If you’re celebrating something, the Lobster Dynamite is yummy(but pricey). For a few years I explored all of the top rated Boulder and Denver sushi spots, wondering if I was missing something trendier or better, but every time I left those places wishing I’d eaten at Sushi Yoshi because either the rice in one roll wasn’t fresh, the fish wasn’t fresh, a roll was poorly made, or the service was pretentious. Yoshi is consistent, down to earth, and delicious.

A great local sushi spot. Nothing fancy and reasonable prices. Fresh fish and well prepared. The owner chef runs this business because it is what he loves. Reflex reaction: great fish, not pretentious, simply good

A unique and tasty place to go. Avoid peak hours and the service is fast. It’s fun to sit at the bar and watch Yoshi at work. If I were a delicious fish who happened to get caught by humans, it would be an honor to be shipped to Yoshi.

Far and away the best sushi in the Boulder area, Yoshi does a phenomenal job and it shows. The Osaka style salmon and jumbo roll(the most unique and oddly comforting piece of sushi I’ve ever had) were lights out good. Be patient and enjoy.

My daughter and I had a fantastic Father’s Day dinner together. The place is small but staff is friendly and the food is fantastic. Lots of sushi to choose from at a reasonable price. The food is fresh and best of all they have green tea ice cream. I will certainly come back and highly recommend trying it.

Good food and atmosphere. Nice small place which myself and my boys like. My son said we would have given it a 5 if they hadn’t offered him the cheater chopsticks. He is a seasoned veteran after all. Good place.

Sushi Yoshi is the best sushi in town. The fish is excellent and so is the rest of the menu. They have fantastic tempura and some really tasty appetizers. Excellent service and atmosphere as well, it is pricey, but the experience is worth the cost.

This restaurant had excellent service! It may be dur to the fact that I was one of two guests, but, nonethless, received great service! I had the salmon osaka, which is different than a normal roll or sushi. It is basicslly large square pieces of sushi with some additions. The additions included capers, thin layer of something atop the salmon(salmom skim perhaps?), sesame seeds, and a little something in the middle of the rice. It also had a large amount of rice. I’m not sure if that’s the nature of the roll or if I’m getting jipped. Either way, it had a distinct flavor and taste that I enjoyed. So, if you’re looking for a typical roll or sushi, don’t get the osaka. However, if you want to try something new, I’d recommend it. It was quite good! Now the reason I gave 4 stars was simply due to price. I suppose I’m used to an all-you-can-eat place back in Arizona, but I payed around $ 18.50(including a $ 2.50 tip) for two osaka salmon«rolls». I suppose I understand having those prices with having to keep up with rent as I’ve lived here my whole life and seen many shops come and gone due to not enough business. Still a little on the pricey side, but they do 3 or 4 have cheaper options, which I plan to try on my next visit. Overall, I’d recommend Sushi Yoshi. The waitress was very attentive, the food was good, but the prices were steeper than I would have enjoyed.

The food might or might not be good, but I don’t know(the deep fried sweet shrimp head was good). I arrived at 6:15pm on a Friday night, was promptly greeted and sat at the sushi bar. I got the water I ordered, and my sushi order submitted in 15 minutes. It took 35 minutes for my shrimp head to come out, and as I write this, I’m still waiting for my order of 6 pieces of Nigiri and single order of Osaka style Salmon to come out. I’m not going to be able to enjoy my food because I will have to wolf it down in order to get to my massage.

The service was abysmal and took excessively long. Their fish tasted like it was bought at the target next door several days ago. The place is tiny and cramped, and inside a strip mall. I can see into their kitchen which is a bad touch. lastly, their rating is 4.3, way to high for a restaurant that doesn’t deserve an average of 2. I’m disappointed i wasted my time with sushi yoshi. I’m disappointed that this is whats considered good sushi outside of boulder

Took 2 hours to get our food. We were finally told(sheepishly) that they had run out of rice. At a sushi restaurant. Anyway read the other reviews, extremely slow service is the norm. Food tasted pretty good when we finally got it but two of us got terrible FOODPOISONING. Others have as well. So heads up: you WILL wait a long time for your food and you might get deathly ill from it. I’m still sick and deeply regretting our decision to give this place a shot.

Another leap of faith — thank you fellow Unilocalers, for pointing me to some pretty amazing restaurants — Sushi Yoshi certainly qualifies! SY is really quite nondescript from the outside — just a standard«strip mall» restaurant surrounded by Costco, Super-Target and some pretty awful looking chain restaurants. But step inside, and you know instantly that there is something special about Sushi Yoshi. The décor is understated, with none of the ticky-tacky Japanese knick knacks that you often see in sushi bars. And this place is SMALL — just 6 – 8 tables and 8 – 10 seats at the bar. Two waitresses, one chef, and one sous chef. That’s it! My hubby and I ordered a few standards from the sushi menu, as well as a perfectly-prepared miso soup, then asked our waitress to work with the chef to choose the rest of our meal for us. Everything was delicious, and as others have noted, nothing was over-sauced. This was particularly noticeable with the unagi — almost every other restaurant we go to douses the unagi with a sauce that is too sweet, too thick, and too plentiful. The chef at Sushi Yoshi went easy on the sauce, and I swear I actually TASTED eel for the very first time — it was delicate and divine and the sauce truly complemented the fish instead of overpowering it. Thank you! And thank you, too, for including the Osaka-style pressed sushi(mackerel) in your choices for us. So beautifully prepared, flavorful, delicate, and different than anything I had ever had. A real treat! We’ll definitely be back to Sushi Yoshi again… soon!

Finally got to try the sushi here. I’ve waited a long time and it was worth every minute and every penny! I ordered the spicy tuna roll, an avocado roll, 2 pieces of Maguro(Tuna sashimi), 2 smelt egg pieces, a salmon roe with quail egg and a bowl of miso soup(around 30+tip). The soup was so good. It was fresh mixed and you can tell the difference between it and the premixed-packet style I’ve had at other sushi places. It also had fresh(not dried) seaweed. The seaweed in the soup and on the sushi was a perfect texture and slightly sweet. Best I’ve had in a long time. The tuna was more fresh than I imagined for a landlocked state. The spicy tuna was indeed spicy and creamy and had a nice crunch due to very fresh cucumber. The smelt egg sushi was perfect. Sweet, bursty goodness. The salmon roe was new to me. It’s more of a liquid filled boba texture and surprisingly not overtly fishy; the yolk of the quail egg paired quite nicely, giving it a creamier texture and umami flavor. The sushi chef was delightful, as was the server/hostess. In completion, this was a wonderful visit which I cannot wait to repeat, and I will bring all my sushi loving visitors here henceforth. NOTE: beware that google maps said it would be on my right when it was on my left.

Sushi Yoshi is in a surprising location for how delicious it is. The sashimi is exceptional and they really put in the extra effort to maintain the quality. The yellow tail is particularly fresh and it tastes quite rich. They even make their own soy sauce here. It’s a bit on the expensive side, but the prices are justified for what you get.

Where are my socks? Oh, they are knocked off all thanks to Sushi Yoshi. I’m still amazed at my experience here. Which just goes to show that you shouldn’t judge places by their appearance because if I would just drive past Sushi Yoshi, I probably wouldn’t have given it a second thought. It’s in a strip mall and looks quite unassuming, maybe because when you walk in there are only five tables + the sushi bar or maybe because there is only one man making the food. Yes, one man and one woman running the whole place. This could either turn out very well or very bad… Seeing that it’s basically two people running the joint, patience was a key factor with our experience here this past Saturday night. Good thing I read the reviews on Unilocal beforehand and was prepared to be a patient girl. We sat at the sushi bar so we could see the sushi action and even though our server was running wild handling all the tables in the restaurant, she was nice and attentive. We started off with salads and they stray away from the traditional ginger dressing and give you a choice of a wasabi vinaigrette or a citrus vinaigrette. Both were tasty and the veggies adorning the salad were in fun shapes, the six year old in me loved that! We ordered the lobster dynamite and game was on!!! It was like a taste bomb went off in my mouth! We even kept the plate there with us so we could use the sauce up for our tempura and every time we took a bite, it was even more awesome than the bite before. At $ 20 a pop, I would totally get this appetizer again and again and again(and of course the entire time, I was muttering Dyn-o-mite ala Jimmie Walker in my head which makes it even more awesome). We stuck with one sushi roll for the night, the Caterpillar roll, which was as delicious as the lobster dynamite. They have a good selection of sushi rolls and it’s best if you like eel and asparagus since a majority of their rolls seem to feature both. All the food was prepared on spot and even though it took some time, it was worth the wait thanks to the fresh ingredients, combination of flavors and presentation. I am definitely willing to make the drive up to Superior again to go back to Sushi Yoshi!
