This was one of my very rare 1 star reviews. The place closed up. They should have listened more carefully. I’m not normally a vindictive person but my experience here was really that disappointing! I am now definitively able to report that they don’t have parking, don’t take reservations, don’t take credit cards, and don’t serve meals anymore.

Closed. Never really a big fan of Chevy’s, but I did dine here a few times over the years they were in business. The warm tortilla chips with salsa served as soon as you’re seated were always the best part. I tend to ignore big, garish chain restaurants near shopping malls, so I had pretty much forgotten about Chevy’s until a Living Social(or was it Groupon?) deal inspired me to make a return visit last year. Honestly I would have been pretty disappointed with that experience had it not been for the discount. Oh well, plenty of other Mexican restaurants in the area!

I like Chevys. The food isn’t fantastic, but its decent. The service was always good. Guess they are closing now… you know why? Apparently, according to their teabagger owner, Obamacare and all those taxes caused his business to fail. Unbelievelable. Check it out on the facebook page. I’m sure it sucks laying off all of your employees because, let’s face it, you failed while other businesses flourished. Instead of going away quietly, the owner engages in right wing rhetoric. Total bummer.

I have a special place in my heart for Chevy’s, which was once part of the PepsiCo restaurant empire. This particular location has never been great, I’ve had to stand waiting for someone to seat my party for more than 10 minutes even though the dining room was not even ¼ full. In addition, sadly, this location looks like it is to be closed soon, it has already appeared on the local auction listing. Sad that I won’t ever get to go here again, despite the poor service level. :(

Food just isn’t as good as it uses to be here. It’s a shame too because it uses to be one of our faves. This visit the chips tastes like old oil, guac was brown, and waitress wasn’t very attentive.

Awful, awful, AWFUL! The only thing that made this dinner remotely worth it was my free drink at the bar and the warm chips. We came in with a large party(we had called ahead to make reservations) and what we received was one server for fifteen of us. Needless to say the poor girl was in the weeds all night. She handled herself VERY well, but I have to say I am utterly disappointed with her support staff and her managers who yes — helped her run food, but never once helped her clear dishes, refill drinks, or check in to ensure everything was OK. My diet coke sat empty the majority of the night. The food was terrible, I ordered a smothered buritto and I think if I poured a can of Stagg chili into a tortilla and microwaved it on high for thirty seconds I would have been more satisfied with my meal than the tasteless mush on my plate. It’s time for Chevys to go out of business! Update; Guess I got my wish! Sorry to the displaced workers, but hoenstly the food quality is what did you guys in. Good luck elsewhere: o/

Chain restaurants are a mixed bag because some can really knock it out of the park, while others languish from poor management. The Chevy’s in Tacoma suffers from the latter. First off I’ve spent many years going to Chevy’s. I’m a FAN. When I lived in Sacramento I’d either eat at Howe Avenue, or at my all-time favorite location on the American River. But this isn’t about location, because let’s face it, Tacoma can’t compete with California weather. ;-) Speaking of sunny… We visited this Chevy’s on a rare, sunny and warm February day.(Feb 4th, at around 1pm) Because it was warm, my date and I requested to be seated in the outside patio, but the hostess seemed confused that anyone would want to sit there and said that they usually don’t set that up until June. We settled for a sunny window table in the cantina. Thinking that it never hurts to ask for a second opinion, we asked our server(the bartender) and he gave us the same lame reason. Now that might be the detail that makes you think I’m an a-hole customer, or I’m a normal well-intentioned customer, but we were disappointed. There were only 3 – 4 plastic tables out there, and having a busperson(or manager) take a few minutes to wipe down one of them, along with a couple of chairs didn’t seem an unreasonable expectation, especially since the place really wasn’t busy for a weekend lunch. In the end we didn’t press the matter because what we were there for was the food. Also, we weren’t in a hurry on this sunny Saturday. This was our 3rd visit to this location. For my expectations the prior two visits were below average, but I wanted to give them another shot. Margaritas: Good. Always good. Chips and Salsa: Always awesome. But please keep them coming, trying to eat cold chip crumbs at the bottom of the basket is not gratifying, but is frustrating. Food: Okay, but sub-par for Chevy’s. Got to the table sorta warm, definitely not hot. Service: 1 server/bartender for about 8 people in the cantina, including us. Not adequate. For this I don’t blame the bartender. It’s the manager’s responsibility for staffing and making sure customers get plenty of attention. Ambiance: A window seat is always a treat, especially in the sun. But please lose the big, tacky laminated COLDHOT chip guide on the wall. Customers don’t ever need to see that, employees just need to KNOW it. By chance I saw the manager walk by, but she was focused on something else. Overall the staff here just seems to be going through the motions and it made me feel a little embarrassed to bring a date here. I live in Seattle, and there are times when I’ll just feel like a mini road trip for food. Since it’s the ONLY Chevy’s in a 50 mile radius, I’m sad this one isn’t worth the drive or more like the others I’ve enjoyed over the years. Maybe I’ll just have to go further south to the Chevy’s in Clackamas, Oregon. Check out my review for them.

We went on a Friday night to try somewhere new and it is always looks so popular. We will not be back. First, we had to wait for 45 minutes to seat the 2 of us, she told us 30 – 35, and the wait only got longer after that. Then we were seated next to a HUGE party of about 20 people. Multiple tables had been moved to make room for this party and it was really affecting all the traffic around them, including people bumping into our table. Once the party left and the stragglers were asked to move along as they needed the tables for other patrons, it was fun to watch the circus of incompetence as two sweet looking girls tried to put the room back in order. A lot of back and forth with the tables, chairs worse than a children’s game, and unproductive sweeping. They finally managed to get the tables arranged some time later where tired and grumpy looking families were seated. At the table, it was so sticky that my napkin stuck to it and stayed there. Which kinda worked out because then I couldn’t feel it sticking to my arm. This may have been a leaving point for us, had it not been for the long amount of time already invested in waiting and our awesome waiter. He appeared almost immediately with fresh chips and salsa and waters. He took our drink order, took him a little while to get back, but he was hustling. I ordered the grilled fish tacos and they were overwhelmingly fishy smelling. I know, they’re fish, but this was extreme. My husband had a wet burrito that was passable. Lots of meat. This may have been just one exceptionally bad experience and not the norm, but there were no redeeming qualities to entice us back.

Just ok for a late lunch. Great chips and salsa, fast service from the kitchen. Dining room staff was somewhat inattentive at first. Food quality was good for my two friends, my dish just wasn’t that great.

It’s been a long while since I’ve last been to Chevy’s and it was a long while before that… but waaaay back when I came here weekly for some pretty good Mexican food and gigantic margaritas. At this point the only thing going for them is their chips and salsa and tortillas. There was plenty of seating in the bar(which should have been disconcerting on a Saturday night) and the general seating area wasn’t particularly busy either. My buddy and I walked into the bar and waited a few minutes for them to bus the booth that just became available. We were greeted a few times and and asked if we were waiting for the booth a few times as well… they were doing a good job of making sure we were being attended to. We were never asked for our IDs which is fine I guess since neither of us ordered alcoholic beverages. On that note my coffee and water were never refilled… even when I set them on the edge of the table which is generally a sign of something needing a refill. If we saw our server with any consistency I would have asked for more… but he was hiding out like he was starring in a Where’s Waldo book. Our chips did get a refill but the salsa, which we asked to be refilled, never was. Sad pandas. Our food took longer than we’d expected since they weren’t very busy. It wasn’t a huge deal breaker since we weren’t in a massive hurry but it’s just another thing they weren’t doing well… and we were both starving. When our food did arrive we both looked at each other and at our food… there was nearly no meat on our fajitas! For $ 18 these fajitas were a desolate wasteland populated by mutant peppers and roving gangs of onions while the meaty populace cowered in a basement somewhere. There are much less expensive fajitas with a lot more substance to be had! No bueano! The rice was also different from the last time I was there… and not for the better. It was moist(OMG! He said MOIST!), clumpy and had nasty little pieces of tomato in it(I’m not of fan of past ripe nasty pieces of death in my rice). I tried one bite of the rice and left the rest of it on my plate for the rats in the alley to devour with spite. After we were done eating it took another 15 minutes for the check to arrive. This was largely due to our server arguing with another group over happy hour pricing and what their bill was. I guess we got a free show during our wait but really we would have rather just paid and left. I have a lot of fond memories of Chevy’s, I’ve have had a lot of great food and dining experiences here but their quality of food and service has been consistently dropping over the last year or two. Unless I have absolutely no choice I doubt I’ll come back because the current trend would make that next visit even worse and who wants to deal with that?! Go to one of the numerous other Mexican joints in Tacoma for much better food and immensely better service/dining experiences.

What happened Chevys. It used to be real good but lately the food has gone downhill. The salsa is great and the chips are thin warm and great but!!! not enough to go regularly. We were there the other day of all three of us agreed the food left a lot to be desired. I had to send mine back because it was cold. We didn’t get what we ordered and overall have had much better. It has become more bland — 3 opinions. The final complaint was — if you are going to «comp» someone — please tell them and apologize. When I checked our bill, I noticed it was low so I had to ask another waitress about it(could not find ours) and she had to go find out. She came back and told us our waitress reduced our bill due to the issues. Question — if the customer doesn’t know he/she is being discounted, why do it — the restaurant just lost money and the customer is still upset. Overall — unless they improve, we will be looking elsewhere. NOTE — they were not busy so that was not it.

Used to come here all the time when I lived in cali. Sadly, this one isn’t as good as the ones in cali. The service was good, but the food wasn’t the same. The chips and salsa are good here. My friends ordered the fajitas which were so dry and had to be sent back. The waitress was cool about it, but even when bringing it back, seemed like it was a different cut of meat. Not like the ones we’re used to. Won’t come out of my way to eat here. The food was much more expensive than I remember.

Used a Living Social coupon with no hassles. Food was acceptable. Service was great. Husband had salmon and veggies. I had beef nachos. Loved the chips, salsa was bland(Ammm from Texas). I expected some sort of seasoning in the nacho meat and was disappointed. It is ok, but I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to eat there.

They used to have Chevys in Colorado, but about 7 years ago they all closed. So of course, when visiting Washington, I sought one out, because of the: Excellent Chips and Salsa(thin warm chips with chunky-non-runny salsa)! Signature Sweet Corn Tomalito(a masterpiece un-found elsewhere)!

Hadn’t eaten all day, but knew I had to even though I wasn’t hungry. So we decided to come here. Mostly Tex Mex type food and not my normal fare, but anything would do at this point. The meat salsa that was served with the chips was a bit burnt and a bit spicy. I had 2 enchiladas one with cheese and the other with beef which included beans(you had a choice between pinto, refried or black beans), rice and the corn something. The enchiladas were ok… Didn’t eat too much of the beans and think the corn mush they had was about the only thing I thought was really good. Service was great and the place was clean. For a Saturday night, the place was pretty empty. Which, honestly was ok with me since after the day I had, I needed peace.

I’ve only been to Chevy’s once, but I was pretty happy with the experience. I can tell that it has the potential to be a pretty busy place, but we went around 4:30 on a weekday so there was no wait and service was quick. The waitress was super nice and when she forgot to bring out the guacamole right away with the chips, she quickly told us she’d take it off the bill. Yay for free guac. I was super hungry and knew that it probably would be a long time before I returned, so I went with the Taste of Chevy’s. This monstrosity of a meal came with two enchiladas, a taco, and a tamale. All of the meats and cheeses were yummy, and the tortillas and taco shell were all perfectly cooked, which I wasn’t really expecting to be honest. Nothing was soggy or over cooked, and everything tasted really delicious. I somehow managed to KO the entire plate, which left me feeling pretty awful a half an hour later, but that cannot be blamed on Chevy’s. They didn’t force me to eat like a big piggy. The place is rather nice on the inside and I suppose if I found myself in the neighborhood craving tex mex again, I will return.
