Rodeway Inn

In 1978, my mother Patty Casteel was a waitress at Rodeway Inn. She took a bank bag from the front bldg to the back bldg at night and a criminal pulled her her up at gunpoint. She gave up the bank bag, he only got 6 months probation and then she made me give away the gun my uncle bought me to protect myself because my mother’s boyfriend was a drug trafficker destroying my childhood. She almost got fired from her job when my natural father walked in to drink and she beat the shit out of him. Different time period vs 2016, right? Ive since been recruited by the CIA so I have to remain an Anonymous alcocholic.

Like the previous reviewer I also found the cheapest hotel I could but I needed it close to the Tacoma Dome. I didn’t expect any thing more then I got. The room had the basics and we were only going to sleep there after the concert so we didn’t have to drive back to Seattle at 1:00 in the morning. That meant as long as the beds were clean and fairly comfortable we were good. The front desk person was excellent — friendly, easy smile, clear directions and she gave me the information I needed to grab a cab. Rodeway Inn is only 1.8 miles from the Tacoma Dome so the taxi was way cheaper then parking. The continental breakfast was bleh, meaning just boring. They had the usual cold cereal, muffins, toast, pastries and all the regular breakfast beverages but they did also have a make-​your-​own waffle station and those were good.
I will say that if you are on the first floor it can be loud. The hotel can’t really do anything about that since the window is fairly large and you can’t control the guests if they decide to stand outside a room and talk really loud (we heard very clearly how one woman felt about the Katy Perry concert… and she went on and on at 8:00 in the morning). I guess the best way to minimize that would be to ask for a second floor room. I did not feel that the area was iffy and besides that they had security cameras everywhere and all the screens were up at the front desk clearly displayed.

You get what you pay for. If you have kids, this place doesn’t seem very family friendly/​safe. Spend a little more money and stay at one of the hotels next door!
Being in the area for a meeting, I only needed to stay in the Tacoma area for one night. I was more concerned about finding somewhere cheap– and the Rodeway Inn took it for about $ 60 for a queen bed per night. Not a bad price, since I wasn’t looking for anything special. My first impression was that it isn’t a good part of town and it looked pretty rundown from the outside.
Checking in/​out at the desk was pretty easy and both the people I talked to seemed nice enough (given what they had to work with). I initially had some trouble finding my room. Half of the rooms are on the side of the building opposite the parking lot, with little parking access (you actually have to walk through an outside corridor to get there). This could be a pain for people with a lot of luggage (***I wouldn’t recommend leaving anything valuable in your vehicle overnight.)
Once I got to the room, I had trouble getting my key card to work and got stuck outside trying to get it working. Once I got in the room, it definitely wasn’t anything to write home about. There was the usual desk, TV, microwave and mini fridge, few chairs, small table, ironing board/​iron, and a safe. They have free internet, which is pretty decent, but no continental breakfast… Overall, you just feel really dirty in the room, there were small piles of dirt and hair in the corners and a large pile of hair behind the bathroom door. The sheets and pillowcases were stained and had holes in them. The door to the outside seemed pretty flimsy, which doesn’t give you a feeling you are very safe.
After seeing this, I realized the majority of their customers probably only used the rooms for 10 minutes, and didn’t care too much about this. (Later that night, my suspicions were confirmed– the place has very thin walls…) Never again.
