Really love the staff and all the equipment they have for sale here. I’m a drummer and I always go there when I need new sticks and drum heads. The staff is really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They also put on clinics right in the store from REAL musical professionals giving helpful advice on how to improve your craft.

I wanted to share my experience with Gary, who helped me as I was looking at guitars. From the beginning, Gary was totally patient with me and my needs and what I was looking for. I mean, I was looking to spend $ 2000 on a guitar– I wanted to make sure it was exactly the one. He gave me many options and ideas and was receptive to all my questions. We shared emails as I looked around town for the best guitar. I literally went there 4 times to try out guitars– and I never felt pressured. I ended up buying a guitar from Gary– which cost $ 150 more than Guitar center: because I believe in good service and that he will stand by any problems or concerns I have with the guitar. He’s also going to restring and adjust my guitar anytime I need it, as long as he’s working there. The guys at Guitar Center aren’t gonna do that– they probably don’t even remember me!

This is probably the best service you will get if you are in the area. Family owned and totally worth the trip. The service was wonderful, polite, and the most efficient store since my visit here in Washington. Was very pleased to have gotten the perfect items needed.

Good local music store. They offer lessons on many instruments. Service can be very inconsistent. Some employees are very welcoming and helpful, others not. And can be rude.

My son is enrolled in the Live It Outloud program this summer. It is fantastic! He’s gaining tons of experience working with a mentor and the band TB coordinated. All of the kids in the program are so talented, what a great way to learn what it is to be a musician in a band: performing, writing, growing.

Love this place. I purchased a guitar there a couple years ago and was happy then, but I recently purchased a new Line Amplifi 150 guitar amp, and my experience with this purchase is really what sets them apart. When I came to demo the amp, it was quite busy, but the salesman Gary did not hesitate to pull an amp from the floor and set me up in a private practice room. He gave me a overview of the amp and let me try it out then when I decided to purchase it he made sure I understood all the settings and places I could go for resources if I had any issues with the amp. Unfortunately the amp did have some mild issues with the headphone port and sound quality. The problem was a little to detailed to go into length, on but Gary not only has helped identify the problem, but has also been more than helpful in getting it resolved. He let me come into the store with my equipment to see if I could duplicate the problem, reached out to his Line 6 sales rep, and accepted the return without any hassle. I won’t by music equipment anywhere else.

I have been coming to Ted Brown Music in Tacoma since I got my very first flute in 5th grade, back when it was smaller and closer to the mall. In my high school days it moved and I started playing guitar and that was my go to place for gear. I still have and use my boss me-50 pedal and yamaha guitar I got from them, which was cheaper at ted brown than it was at guitar center. Recently went there for strings and I love their variety and pricing. Anything for music, ted brown is my go to place for all music and I will continue to support these guys while they are still around!

As soon as I got there I was greeted by the staff asked me if they could help me! I went to look at their drums selection… which was pretty good! Looks like they have Music clinics as I saw several«seemingly overpriced» instruments signed by professional musicians who had done clinics there! Some instruments were priced moderate and some were over priced… not sure if they had a «price matching» clause to their instruments.

Last year I searched guitar stores in Portland, Seattle, Tacoma, and Spokane and smaller towns along the way, to find the acoustic-electric guitar for me.(My main gigging electric guitar is a Reverend PA-1). At Ted Brown music they seemed happy to let me play acoustic fingerstyle on a variety of guitars for a long time, and made some helpful recommendations. Two hours later I walked out with a Yamaha A1R, with action that was just right and with the bright sound acoustic sound for fingerstyle solo guitar; and it has the electronics to work onstage in the occasional song that calls for acoustic treatment. When a guitar feels just right when you play it and has the sounds you want; that is the one to buy.(I don’t know how anyone can buy guitars mail order when individual guitars of the same model can be so different.)

I have been here once and received great service. I walked in and looked around for a few minutes unbothered. When I needed some help I asked an associate behind the counter and he directed me to the person in that department. I began asking him a few questions and he answered them all to my satisfaction. When we got around to talking about why I was there he was very helpful in assisting me and went out of his way to find some info on the product I was looking for. He made sure I had all the accessories I needed and I was on my in no time at all. I personally had a great experience there and will definitely go back.

I had exactly the opposite experience of the previous reviewer. I was going to be in town for several days and wanted to rent a guitar. They typically only rent band instruments on a longer term basis, but the person I dealt with via Email, Phil, said they could work something out. When I arrived, he wasn’t even in the store, but I told them Phil had said I could have a student guitar for a week for $ 25, and they said«Fine,» found me a floor model of a low-end guitar, modified their typical rental contract, took a CC slip to act as a deposit on the cost of the guitar, and I had a guitar for a week. Now: Typically when I’ve asked«Can you do x for me,» at other stores, if it’s not something they ALREADY do, they say, «No, we don’t do that.» They thought about it, said«Sure,» and made it happen. THEN when the person I had the agreement with wasn’t EVENTHERE, they STILL made it happen. I think that is unusual and superior customer service, and that’s why I’m giving them five stars. Peigi

I’ve been here twice and both times I received crappy service. The first time I was here I showed up 30 mins before closing time and they greeted me at the door with displeasure. Sure it’s a retail shop and the employees have lives too, but c’mon, I just wanted some guitar cable. They are rude on a consistent basis to everyone I know who’s been in. A definite no-go.
